Very impressive!

There must be multiple courses on VIR. The one course that usually sets the standard is the grand course which the all time record holder is a McLaren Senna at 2:34. I would have love to seen with the CFTP 500 and C8 would do on that course. This is where Car & Driver sets its lightning lap contest every year.

The 2006 Ford GT did that course in 3:00. I am sure the new GT500 would crush that time.

By comparison the new Camaro Zl1 !LE did a blistering lap in 2:45. The regular GTR does it in 2:53 (Age has caught up with it). I suspect that the new GT500 could challenge and possibly beat the Camaro ZL1 time. That would put it in very elite company.

what was the 2019 camaro zl1 1le on VIR times I thought it got a 2:45 which to me is a better comparison for supercharge vs supercharge although at the GT500’s price point they are nowhere close

To be fair, we are talking a base(ish) Vette vs. the halo Mustang. I’m sure a ZO6 or ZR1 model would have more bite.

Lou

a select number of high volume dealers received a “golden ticket” that allowed them they ability to order GT500’s with the Carbon Fiber Track Pack.
Goose would know the exact details but I thought I read it was approx 30% of the cars being built.

Thanks,
I didn't think our dealer being out in the country would be that high volume. Maybe he sells a large amount of trucks. I know he received some 350's with one being an R for 2019. He still has an orange 350R and a white 350 (I bet someone could get a great deal on them)..
He got one allocation (maybe two) for the GT 500. He offered the CFTP to us, but I was not comfortable in the seats.
And living in the Keys I like the cooled seats. We did order the painted stripes.
We are still waiting for a Vin #. We ordered the car August 13th.
Thanks again,
Lou

@Lou-Q As Sean eluded to... only high volume dealers can get a “Golden Ticket.” The catch is these are the dealers with the big ADMs normally. Small dealers can only order base cars. My dealer only got one 2020 GT500 for the whole year.

Damn!! I TOTALLY misread the title and got my hopes WAY up. I have a VR (virtual reality) headset I use for gaming, and I was immediately drawn in thinking there must be a new game out that the 2020 GT500 was included in and was ready to go out and buy it so I could go racing. Oh well....

I want to see if Ford will send the GT500 to the lightning lap. As of now they are refusing. They say they have no interest in track times??? This is a $95k track specific car vs a $75k street model. Put it against the C7 ZR-1, a much more apple to apple comparison, and it will get destroyed. Hell I bet the Camaro ZL-1 1LE would smoke it. Let alone when the C8 Z06 comes out. Ford will always be chasing the vettes taillights like it always has.

Did you sign up just to bash GT500s or do you have one and you simply don’t like it?

I will be interesting to see video of Speed Phenom once he got new 2020 GT500 Track compare to is C8, that I will respect is input!!!

Both are great cars, and I am so pumped that my C8 arriving at the dealer before end of the month.

Dealer are pumped too, first C8 for them too and seem first C8 in my state.

You posted up a mid engine Vette going against a RWD Shelby? Wow amazing😂. It is the only arena the Vette wins in👍👍. What’s up with the Vette having to run 3 Deg’s of negative camber on the track? That is the only way to reduce understeer according to Randy Pobst.

This happen today Whoops

Corvette

This is why I canceled my C8 order

That was fun Claude!

Lap time comparisons would be track dependent. A slower/tighter track would favor the Vette. A faster/bigger track would favor the Shelby. Also worth mentioning, the driver was manually shifting the Shelby. When I did the hot laps with the pros in both Vegas as well as Charlotte, they both used Track Mode and auto-shifting. They said even as pros, they cannot out shift the programming in Track Mode, which gives you the quickest laps.

The higher horsepower next Vette will be a track beast I’m sure. They’ll have to revisit this video with the new Vette and the CFTP Shelby.
