Potential new Mustang being tested 5.2L? (video in link)

This sounds like our 5.2 engine. Definitely automatic but is it a DCT? Sounds on takeoff like a DCT? Close your eyes & it sounds like our 500 in quiet exhaust/normal mode. This is getting interesting.

Could this be the new Boss Mustang? Is this to be considered to fit betw the DH & GTD? Performance wise, a successor to the GT500?

Where this gets interesting is IF Ford does this, does that open the door for Shelby access to produce their own modified version? Could they theoretically concoct a Boss 500? (Cue the X-file music lol)

I hear a nice V8 sound. The driver was keeping the RPM’s down maybe so they don’t reveal the real note of the engine. What ever it is IF Ford uses say the 5.2 Predator as a stand alone Mustang engine outside of the GTD in say a Boss then yes under the SAI contract they would have access to use the vehicle for their future projects including a GT500 return in 2027 for the anniversary. The SS-R is a Dark Horse when it’s delivered to SAI. So it would be really interesting to see Ford do an NA Predator in a Boss or something else and SAI slapping a Whipple on it for the anniversary. It’s exciting to be a Ford fan these days! Farley is going full frikkin send and if the CAFE standards are reduced OH BOY!

It's been discussed in a couple other threads. My money is on it being a new Cobra.

Chris @AZ21GT500,
  • If Mario @CodeOrange is right and this arrives as a Mustang Cobra... AND....
  • SA gives it the GT500 treatment (amazing if they do, hopefully in larger production numbers so that price is accesible for me)
Are they able to name it Shelby GT500 Cobra?

I couldn't possibly tell the difference between a 5.0 or a cross plane 5.2 by sound alone. I'm still hoping for a streetable version of the 5.4 in the GT3 car.

Same with the DCT, they're taking it so easily it could also be the 10 speed auto. My dad has a 10 speed auto GT with the variable exhaust and it sounds almost exactly like this if maybe a hair quieter.

I just get a kick out of people spying and following the test cars around and then making up BS for click-bait. How do these people make any money with all this false info? And then other people take this fake news and repeat it, until people start actually believing the nonsense. I want these people called out for their stupidity when they're proven wrong. Then taken out and hanged in public.

Hawk, I get Alex sending me these videos or articles at least once a week, I tell him first off Alex it won't be a 2026, and it most likely won't be a Shelby, now if it is a S650 version of our S550 Shelby's I doubt Ford Philippines will have the program they did for our cars.

So it will be most likely a 2027 release I believe, you all may have more info on it, I also asked Alex are you ready to spend 12 million pesos,($215,000) for this if it is a 2026/27 Shelby GT500 or any other name you want to give it? Not me.

I rather keep the Mistress

I also said hell you don't even drive the one you got now, if it wasn't for me asking him to go somewhere, his wife told Irene, Alex rarely drove his Shelby until Tom came along  :cautious:

Got this the other day from him

Pretty tough to be definitive to these untrained ears. The slow slip start from a stop that the DCT does, almost sounding like a perfectly executed start with a manual transmission, is evident. I don't know if the current 10-speed has that same evolution of engine load from a stop, hence why I'm couching it. If it's a DCT with a 5.0 that would be interesting. The front rotors look pretty good. Standard GT spoiler and exhaust, too. The fender and quarter panel shrouding doesn't have any cutouts but the front has a lot of mesh up front. The bumper crossbar has shrouding which makes me think a different front end.

Would be neat to be a Cobra with the 5.0 and factory supercharger along with the DCT but I doubt that's the case.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, too. I drove an older, beat-to-hell GT a month ago but that auto was every bit the slush box compared to the DCT. The shifts just seem too crisp and quick to be anything else.

Good stuff Rob!

And remember kids, it can be a Shelby or a Cobra… but not both!
