Polishing the polished Whipple Supercharger

I got disgusted trying to polish my Whipple polished supercharger so called Whipple to ask them what they recommended to do the job.

The said they thought the best thing to use to polish the Whipple was Mothers Billet Polish. And for the actual getting into the nooks and crannies they recommended a disk grinder with a small polishing bit or a Dremel tool with a small polishing bit but the guy said don't crank up the RPMS or you might 'burn through'.

And he said the polishing just takes elbow grease.

I can understand what you are saying. Same thing that Boss was saying. But I guess I'll continue to give it a try. I'm learning a few tricks as I go along to make it easier. I'm hoping that at some point I become the Master of maintaining the polished stuff under the hood. Sort of like that ancient philosopher Confuse-us said 'To become a master fisherman one must first become a master baiter'.

I use Mothers metal polish and a rag/hand/finger. I tried power tools and found my hand for the large areas and my pointer finger for the recessed areas was best.

I only do it every few months or so.

What about the elbow grease!!!

From the pictures you show of your Whipple it sure looks good. Mine looks pretty good except for those deep pockets. A guy at the dealership suggested I try that Never Dull but it wasn't any better than any other polish though maybe easier to use with the cotton wadding.

Oh well, maybe I'll get there eventually. One of the things I want to do is use some simply green to get some of the scum out of hard to clean areas but once I rinse under the hood I need to do one of two things I guess, either get a blower to blow dry under the hood or buy one of those spot free rinsers.

For those looking for a kick ass polish, try White Diamond Multi-Purpose metals polish. You will never go back to Mothers. Less effort, brighter shine and longer lasting. Biker approved.

Since I have a lot of respect for your opinions I'll give it a try. Where can I buy some?

And Goose17 and Hardage, don't forget that elbow grease!!!!!!!!!!

O'Reilly Auto Parts

It works excellent with microfiber cloths and mothers power cone polisher. I mostly just use it with the microfiber cloths. If I get a tuff dull spot, i will break out the mothers power cone and will use the White Diamond polish to bring back the bling.

I got the polish at Advance Auto and I have the mothers power cone polisher but I didn't have a lot of luck previously using that cone or the ball trying to polish the Whipple. The ball and cone just seem too big to get into the nooks and crannies in SPITE of what Mothers says. But I guess I can try them again if need be with the White Diamond. Gosh this stuff looks thin but as I said I'll give it a try. I'll also check my bits for the dremmel and see if I have anything that looks like it would work.

Are there any products that act as a lasting polish/protectant similar to a clear coat? Wonder if liquid glass would work? Seems to work on exhaust tips.

The folks that I spoke with about polishing my SC charge $75 extra for the "protectant" if you want the option. Just wondering what they might be using.

I sprayed clear over my polished ridges on my coil covers, but I'd be worried about applying clear to the blower. If it doesn't hold up, it would be a pain to remove.

Well I finally figured it out or put it all together. I don't have the White Diamond Mufti-purpose stuff but did get the White Diamond Metal Polish and Sealant. And I finally got the Dremel 422 polishing bit and that sure did the job. That polishing bit is small enough to get into all the nooks and crannies. I think what I still need though is several additional 422 polishing bits so I have one to polish and one to rub out the polish. So need to go buy an additional bit.

Goose17 warned me about polishing, saying be careful as the polish could go everywhere and with the Dremel and the thin White Diamond polish he is right. I have polish on my shirt, jacket, and on many parts of the car. It was a mess until I got some detail spray and cleaned it off the car but the Whipple looks the best it has looked since it was installed, at least it does on the one side I polished. I need still to do the other side. And it is a little time consuming. I find often in the nooks and crannies I need to polish it two or three times as it is easy to miss spots. And I'm running the Dremel on the slowest speed so I won't burn through like the Whipple guy said you could.

i was just watching "motorheads garage" on the velocity channel and they were demonstrating a product called "shark hide" that cleans metals. they used their system on aluminum and it turned out nice. here is their website:

sharkhide.com

worth looking in to i suppose.

Funny as the Sharkskin cleaner does not clean apparently. The video tell you to apply the so called Sharkskin cleaner to a clean surface. It apparently just protects the cleaned surface.
