Okay, I want to do an oil change on my 2012 on Saturday. She has a little over 1000 miles and I'm sure it's overkill but it will give me peace of mind AND a reason to put that bitch up on jack stands and get a look at her!!!! lmao!

But, can't get to a Ford dealer by then.....was just thinking of hitting Auto Zone or Pep Boys.

I'm reading to go for Castrol 5/50 synthetic and a Mobil 1 oil filter????....or Royal Purple????

your choice, but you asked. I would use the Motorcraft synthetic as recommended in owners manual. I do use mobil 1 in my other cars and I trust mobil 1 , but is is it made in the recommended viscosity ? I don't think so.

I've rebuilt engines ran on Mobil 1 and seen bearing surfaces and camshaft lobes that had no visual wear.

I cannot say the same for Castol GTX non- synthetic. I stopped using it a long time ago. I have not seen any engine internals from a Castrol Synthetic.

Which ever way you go, I would recommend Synthetic and use the recommended viscosity for the GT500 engine. Also need to verify the Code also , Example: SJ

This is one thing I just get from the dealer. If your vehicle is under warranty, they will have your oil change record on file showing what parts are used, Same if your changing it yourself while the vehicle is under warranty, I would rather have a Ford invoice showing I used the Factory Filter and Oil.

I use Castrol 5w-50 Syntec. They have it at Autozone. Motorcraft would be fine too, but your going to pay a premium.

I think it is a little too soon to change the oil. Let the engine break in with what it has in it. I change my oil every 3,000 and I’m sure it is over kill. All of my other cars I change the oil at 5,000. I had a pickup that I ran Castrol GTX non- synthetic and I got over 350,000 miles on it changing the oil every 5,000 miles. Also be sure to change the filter as well. I use Fram.

Any parts store should be able to get the Motorcraft oil in the correct weight. They might have to order it, but tell them to keep some for you and they probably will do it. Personally, I run WIX oil filters. Carquest and Napa premium filters are both made by Wix, and they work very well.

Good call on wanting to change your oil this soon. A new engine will show extra metals in the oil as well as silicon from harmless sealers used during assembly. This is due to initial wear-in of the engine. So in essense your ridding your engine of this loose metal and silicon amongst other things.
I would request exactly 6.5 quarts be used with an additional request to prime the oil filter with oil.

Good Luck!

rolled 1,000 last weekend too, swung by the Parts counter at dealer for 7 qts of 5W-50 and filter. Asked for shop rate too to drop it a few bucks.

I did see Castrol Edge Synthetic afterwards, may see what Auto Zone charges to order Motorcraft 5W-50 in the future.

Only issue I had was oil filter location, it drips onto K-member so I covered it prior to removing and no mess/drips afterwards on floor.

Btw, your Ford Quick Lane does not have factory fill in bulk. They use bottle quarts. You're paying for 7. Ask for that last half quart to take home.

"Christine" has never seen anything but Motorcraft. Every 3500 in normal street conditions. Every 2000 and a set of plugs into "high stress" conditions.

Nice to know that BJ, as there is not an overabundance of properly rated oils out there!

Make sure you ask for a Ford Racing filter. If you don't they may use a standard filter.
