Gross Fan Fiction. It looks just like every Chevy Cavalier in Flint Michigan after they get their disability backpay check.

Well, this is an interesting thread with some rather surprising input. Generally speaking, it seems the Eleanor clone is not appealing to the masses here. I like the prototype Tim posted; however, I'm not in love with it. I am very partial to the 2020+ design and IMHO is the absolute best design in Mustang history (you may throw your unwanted items at me now 🤷‍♀️). Don't get me wrong, there are other models that are absolutely stunning and I wouldn't mind at all owning several, but this last design is the modern muscle car at its finest! So, while I will be building this Shelby in honor of Eleanor, it won't be nearly as radical as the one pictured above. I will be having custom painted the exact same over-the-top stripes and exact same side stripes, and of course, I selected a very similar color in the Carbonized Gray Metallic. I also have the Eleanor Style Window Scoops, which after reading the comments above I'm somewhat rethinking using them. When I put them on the car they looked badass to me; however, I'll be getting some more opinions before making them permanent (thanks for the honest opinions)! So, other than that and the custom license plate...GONEIN6...the rest of the exterior will remain the same except for considerable carbon fiber upgrades. This exterior design is already perfectly engineered and aesthetically badass. Less is more as my wife often reminds me, so while I will be honoring Eleanor in some ways, she's still going to be unique in her own way. And oh, the under-the-hood mods...well, just stay tuned for lots of insanity ;).
I like where you are headed… I say “you do you” and not worry about pleasing others. If you dig the quarter window scoops, then rock them! Who cares what others think about your car. I’m rock’n a set.

Kind of off topic and out of curiosity, are those scoops vented in the rear or blanked out in the front? Seems like they would add a lot of drag otherwise.

Then there's this:

Yeah, I've read that article... an interesting read but here's the main takeaway for those that don't care to read past the headline....

"However, it is Steinbacher’s use of the trademarked materials to make money that likely landed him in hot water. The officially licensed cars are still out there, and more than a few folks are in the process of building their own tributes and replicas. Those builds done for personal enjoyment likely fall under fair use, as the builder is not profiting from the trademarked intellectual property."

Thanks for posting this Tim. How dang good they look on your ride is one reason I'm doing it; however, I do unfortunately have to care to some extent what the masses think since this is going to be a show car. For example, I had originally planned to swap out everything I can for carbon fiber because I love that look; however, my wife (with her impeccable taste ;)) and my custom painter who has done countless show cars said, "No, No, NO"! So, I had to be reeled in and compromise. If it wasn't for wanting to win car shows I really wouldn't care for a second what others think. Still love the window scoop though 🤷‍♀️.

They are low profile. Any added drag would be negligible. They are not open anywhere and are basically a 3 dimensional block off plate for looks.

As a warning that's a fickle path to follow for building a car. Every judge will be different, every crowd will be different, and you'll never be able to please them all. My advice is build the car you want to build and keep it as clean as can be. Then regardless of whether the crowd leans in your favor that day or not you'll still receive lots of compliments and drive home in a car you yourself love.

The first time I looked at this when Goose posted it, I thought, no, just no. But after looking at it again a few days later, I see several styling cues I actually like, but it's not for me. I'm a huge fan of the original Eleanor. Personally, I don't think you can improve over the original, and trying to model a different (mainly newer) bodystyle into that creation just doesn't work (for me).

That's being said, who cares what anyone else thinks about YOUR car. It's your money. If it makes you smile every time you walk out into the garage, that's the payoff. The color alone on my car is a huge turnoff for some people. That's cool. I like driving something that looks like a pissed off pumpkin.

It looks pretty good, but with a few tweaks, it would be better. The GT front end never really struck me as aggressive and with the fender flares on the car, it really needs an aggressive front to balance out the side. If I were to do something like that it would need the GT500 front end. I would remove the factory rear diffuser and replace it with one of AJ Hartman's diffusers. Since there is no exhaust out the back, make the whole thing a race-inspired diffuser to continue on with the aggressive styling. The "Cougar" taillight concept is a swing and a miss. I would either recreate the cougar taillamps or keep the factory taillamps. The side Exhaust is in an interesting place. Obviously, we know it wouldn't work, but this keeps bringing up my thoughts of putting the Boss Side Pipes on a GT500. One of the best parts of the Boss 302 was the side exhaust with the sound of the exhaust right outside the window ... it sounded amazing. With the GT500, I can only imagine what it would sound like.

The side exhaust is one of the many things I love about my 2000 Cobra R! Since it doesn’t have AC, I usually have the windows open and the sound dumps right down below... it’s lovely!

".. to each their own ..", ........ never been a truer saying ...... do it for YOU !! Take it from a designer like George Barris .. he did things HIS way, and most everyone grew to love them.

Me, I keep saving my pennies for one of these....... (and the wise wife says, never gonna happen) ... but a guy has gotta dream .. right???
