Everything is almost certainly controlled through the CANBUS. I have a lot of experience with adding stuff to 15+ F series trucks, and all the accessories are controlled with a digitized signal. The buttons and switches just signal the BCM, APIM, etc, and the modules send a CAN signal to the other modules like the seat control modules, door control modules, heated steering wheel control module, etc. You need all the harnesses, all the buttons, modules, etc, and they all need to be programmed to talk to each other. Plus the car needs to know they are present so it knows to pass the messages down the line. It’s pretty involved adding stuff to modern Fords they didn’t originally come with, but it is possible.
