The Mach E will likely be AWD too. Read a Mach E brochure that was on the salesman’s desk while I was at the dealership Friday, and found the AWD info pretty interesting.

My understanding from watching a few videos is there will be an AWD option, but not all of them will be AWD.

The traction it would get off the line would be great, but how much extra weight would that add?

What about electric front wheel drive combined with gas rear wheel drive. Then you don’t have transfer cases and a heavy drive shaft.

Seems like a VERY long shot. As good as Ford is at reshuffling just a handful of powertrain components to suit wildly different applications, a performance-oriented AWD that wouldn’t make the entire car two inches taller seems like a big investment at a time when they’re scouring the lineup to strip out heated wipers and paddle shifters.

Basing S650 on a modified modular front engine, rear or all-wheel drive platform isn’t likely to make Mustang any lighter. Another 100 lbs or more of AWD gubbins without turning Mustang into a Challenger would require Panama Canal levels of engineering.

Well, considering that the S650 would probably take the Mustang to 2030, I wouldn't rule out either AWD or hybrid. If the Corvette can go mid-engine and is going to go hybrid AWD, the Mustang can go there. And every year that passes, there are less people that pine for the old days. Kids now are not as sentimental as older people are of past car "rules". I'm sure the first generation of car drivers compared their experience to riding their horse and buggy...the 2nd generation never knew to make that comparison.

Can't say I would be overly enthused by an AWD Mustang. What I would be enthused by though is if Ford dropped the blowers and went with turbos on atleast the GT500 platforms and kept the Predator.
I love AWD though, but I do not think a Mustang is the right platform for it.
