I tried to order 5 FL2087 filters from Rockauto and it reduced my order to 3, so they are officially out of stock. I still have 2 left from my covid hoard, so I should have enough for a few years assuming they actually ship the 3. I really hope the aftermarket comes up with a good replacement with metal reinforcement. Shame on Ford for letting this become an issue.

My last order from Walmart had to be sent back. My first order from them was correct, but they now deliver the "A's"

Down to my last 2 filters. This is concerning.
Those of us that 'track" are most likely going to have to attempt to find a metal core, aftermarket filter, at some point.
My current plan is change the oil every two track events. If I did 4 a year, I would only be good for 4 years.

The other option is change the oil, but maybe not the filter. I think if any thing, the oil starting to break down some due to high temps
and getting combustion contaminats due to sustained high boost, vs creating particles trapped in the filter, is much more likely.

This is not my recommendation… I am just sharing what I do…

I change oil every 2-4 track days. If I get in a bunch of driving sessions at a big, high speed track like COTA, I change the oil after a 2-day track weekend. If I do more instructing and less driving or I am running at smaller tracks where I don’t have my foot to the floor as much, I’ll extend out the oil change to after 3 or 4 track days.

Re the filter… I used to change it every time I changed the oil. I now have been swapping it every other time. I have a good stockpile of the metal core filters, but I change oil many times throughout the year and I’d like my filters to last awhile.

It would be interesting to do a little research on what level typcial oil filters, "filter", combustion by-products.
Never really looked at it, as filters have alwasy been pretty cheap/available, so why not.

Going to look up the study mentioned here.

Looks like $37............

I got a reply from Ford Performance. They reached out to engineering and got this reply.

The filter had changed suppliers and that new supplier design replaced the metal elements with a plastic design. The newer designed filter (now FL-2087A) was tested and validated back in 2021 and during validation was found to exceed the durability/performance of the previous filter with the metal core.
It was set/intended as a service part replacement after production had ended and that is why it is now rolling out for service.

I am struggling to locate metal core filters. If anyone finds a good alternative please let us know.

How many did you need? I'm going to be in Langley (Surrey) next week for work and I could sneak some in my bag. They're much easier to get here and I can replace metal core ones right now, while they're still around.

Hi Anthony. I'm in Langley so it will be easy to hook up with you. I think 3 would be good if it can be spared?

Sure, I can do that! I'll just order replacements for myself right now.

This is very frustrating because we've had at least one report of the plastic core filter collapsing in this very thread by Chris which included a picture of a collpased plastic core filter.

I want to trust that I can use whatever filter I need and that Ford will fix whatever happens to my car due to these things blowing it up.

I should be able to have the oil changed, either by myself or by a dealer and not have wonder if a brand new part was just put in my car which can result in my car having everything ripped out and put back in again because the engine got destroyed due to a stupid oil filter problem.

South Bay Ford in Southern California has the metal core versions. That's who I order mine from. Just call ahead to verify!

We good now. I hope everyone is at least trying their local Ford dealer parts counter. Picked these up for $30.23 ea first thing this morning. You have to make the parts guy search for the "Motorcraft" part number FL-2087. Otherwise all the parts guy sees is the FL-2087-A for our GT500. The parts guy said, there are no known shortage of these. I suggest looking at large dealerships instead of the small ones.
