With 850 HP and open to ANYONE with the money/credit to buy it. Shirley, there will be LOTS of airbags deploying
They'd have to leave their garages for that to be a concern.

Probably, and stop calling me Shirley

Nope! SA owns GT500, but ford owns Cobra, Boss, Mach1, Bullitt, so expect those variants. I believe that SA needs Ford more than they thought after the backlash on this GT350. If nobody buys them, then maybe they come back to Ford, but not likely.
They are nearly sold out of the GT350’s. They didn’t “leave Ford” Gary’s office is down the hall from Jim Farley in Ford HQ. They took the business back to its roots like they always intended. You are right that SA needs to buy Ford’s to have a viable business future.

Well crap… if the only true high-performance offering is the GTD that none of us can afford to buy then that leaves the majority of us power mongers screwed! Your basic Mustang GT with 480 horse or 500 horse is chicken shit compared to the Gt500 they last released …they’re gonna need to figure out how to bridge that gap without having to go to SA. I only intend to buy things from Ford directly. I’m sure others feel the same way. I’ll certainly be looking around for other brand opportunities at this point because I’m tired of waiting.

Allegedly Ford is coming up with some Mustang performance variant, potentially to bridge the gap between DH & GTD. But there are no details / timeline released as of yet. They really need to get their shit together because ICE Mustang sales are significantly down (in large part due to pricing, no doubt) May be difficult to launch another performance version given that environment. Just my 2 cents

Shelby Trust owns GT350 and GT500, but they also own Cobra for the 1960s vehicles. They made a legal agreement/settlement with Ford where they own the original 1960 cars and Ford owns the name Cobra for the later model 1990- up cars. I do expect that SA will launch a GT500, but who knows… after this drama, they may think again. But as of now, I would expect them to in ‘27.

I will say this knowing that both of us have insights into the workings of SA. They definitely wanted a new contract, but Ford went in another direction, so they are going their own way, but they were working toward that aim and Ford chose not to make a new contract. And yes, not surprised that they have almost sold them out —they have a deep Rolex of SA fans who buy almost everything they make. That was their target audience not so much owners of 2015-2020 GT350. When I was on the phone with Gary Patterson the week of the Code Red, he told me that they were already all sold. They always have buyers for their cars.

Agreed! I tried hinting last year maybe even longer about the contract but people make up their own minds and believe the crazy stuff they see on YouTube. I honestly don’t think they could have topped the last Ford/Shelby vehicles. I guess throwing more HP at it might make some people happy. 😂 I always appreciate the insight. I’d love to post all kinds of cool stuff but as you know the wall of the circle of trust is short.

100%.
Quite aware of the existence of such niche target market. Limited offer quantity follows, of course.

The name of this thread is ”NEW Shelby GT350 & R…. Thoughts?”.
Exactly what I shared: my thoughts on the car. Period.
Whether I am a default SA buyer or not.

If there were a similar thread asking for opinions from prospective buyers, I might not have said anything.

I am not forgetting history, I understand business need, etc, etc, all of which, btw, are fully orthogonal to the premise of the question: IMO this is a GT with a MT-82 (sure Gen 3 but that doesn’t make it a Magnum XL) with, of course, a healthy set of upgrades, all of which do not account for the price tag, particularly with that transmission, nor the bespoke manufacturing specialty of the previous iteration of the vehicle.

I did wonder if they could have done a Magnum swap, not just for robustness and improved shifting experience, but also to bring back to life usability of 1st gear.

My wife has a 2018 GT350. She saw the R model in black and gold and said, I want that. Well, I haven’t seen the prices on the 36 Rs they’re releasing but I’m guessing 200K for a 2nd hand one, if any owners will even sell one.

Only 36 will be produced and from my discussion with Gary they are all spoken for. It’s an amazing car.
