Hi,

The compact discs in my Shaker 1000 radio (2008 GT500) are stuck and will not unload. Once the radio is removed, if the CD player is broken, I am thinking about purchasing a new aftermarket radio instead of a rebuilt OEM Shaker 1000 radio. I would like the aftermarket radio to have the appearance of being installed at the factory. In turn, I would like your suggestions, comments, and recommendations as to which aftermarket radio brand/model number to purchase that is compatible with the Shaker 1000 amp/speaker wiring. As a result, if I need a special mounting bracket or necessary wiring harness for the new radio to be compatible with the existing wiring, I would appreciate that information as well. I would like the new radio to have the ability to play compact discs; however, it seems compact discs are now outdated in new radios. I will be looking forward to suggestions and comments. Thank you, Allen S.

I’d try and source the OEM navigation unit. You will most likely lose the rear sub functionality regardless of what headunit you got other than a 1000

Call these guys:

owns 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 CFTP
This is a new product that I intend on putting in my car soon. I've read several good reviews on it and it enables Apple Carplay, which is a fabulous upgrade if you've not used it. It also maintains most of the factory functionality (except Sync, which is a bonus in my opinion). But the steering wheel controls and all of your dash buttons still work.

This is for 10-14 though. OP has the luxury of some fairly nice double dins that fit well and look close to factory. No AC controls involved

Actually this is not the case at all.

My mustang GT had a factory shaker 1000 system. With all the battery issues that radio caused, I switched mine out within a year or two of buying my car.

I removed the Shaker unit and installed a Kenwood DNX893S that ran my stock system with no issues at all, sub worked great.

Then, a year or two later, I upgraded my speakers and the stock sub with the Shelby/Kicker system (better speakers, a 4.1 amp and a much improved yet shrunken subwoofer replacing the stock sub from the trunk) while continuing to use the Kenwood head unit.

It ran absolutely awesome until I decided to sell the car. So before selling it, I returned the system to stock (I left the speakers in, but took the sub, the amp and the Kenwood head unit). The day I bought my GT500, I immediately changed out the stock Shaker 500 radio (meaning the car came without a sub) by installing the Kenwood headunit, then I added the Shelby Amp, ran the wires to the trunk for the upgraded sub that I installed there, and then added a new set of Kicker/Shelby speakers, where I again ran the system using the sub without the slightest issue what so ever.

I'd be willing to bet the sub runs fine not because I installed a particular Kenwood headunit, but because that is the way the sub was designed to work, meaning it will work with whatever you install. I never once remember searching for a particular radio to 'run the sub' because it wasn't an issue, and I've never read anything to suggest that only particular ones do....from what I've ever seen or read, they all do.

If you want to replace your head unit, I'd suggest looking for one that satisfies whatever functionality you are looking for. Be it the capability to play certain types of music files, or apple play or great blue tooth functionality, or whatever. About the only thing I would suggest to really maximize whatever head unit you purchase, I'd HIGHLY suggest adding the 4.1 amp and kicker speaker combo if you can find it (the slimmed down sub is no longer made by Kicker and is rare as hell to find one for purchase), or (since those speakers and amp were designed over 12+ years ago) look into an amp and speakers that are as good or better then the Shelby system and would work well in conjunction with your head unit. If you feel the need to ask to be 100% certain as far as the sub goes, confirm with crutchfield or your local audio professional (please NOT those idoits at Best Buy) the head unit will run the sub....but I'm telling you it will.

Last note....Since I use a zip drive to store and play a ton of music in my car, I added an additional usb port that I ran to my center console (pic below). So I if I need to switch out the drive, all I need to do is open my center console and exchange the zip drive. Otherwise, it stays in there and I can access it via the head unit, where I can just as easily connect to my phone for music via blue tooth (or by plugging it in via a cord) or listen to spotify or pandora or whatever.

Have you installed the new system? How do you like it? I'm trying to find a good option for my 2011. Thx.

Unfortunately, no. It's still on the roadmap though. I haven't seen any other competitors on the market and this one still receives high ratings.
Funny Jeff. I have the same unit still in the box waiting for me. It's going in this winter! That and the trailer brake controller for the Ranger have been sitting on my workbench for a while. If Santa brings me more CF pieces they may have to wait a little longer. :p
