2011/12 brake duct cooling mod

Outside of the $1200 FR500C CF kit, because that doesn't work for me and my wallet, what have others done with adapting the $250 FRPP brake duct kit to the 11/12 500's? Thought I remember a thread from awhile back but can't seem to find?

In changing out the H/E I used the dremel to cut the holes into the lower grille for the brake cooling ducts. My question is the preformed holes in the bumper cover are 2 1/2" where the new Boss 302 cooling kit has 3" ducts with specific inlets to accomodate where the 07-09 GT500 brake cooling kit has 2 1/2" ducts. The dust shields have 3" and 2 1/2" inlets respectivley. Why go with the 3" Boss 302 kit vs the 2 1/2" GT500 kit? Backing plates from an 07-09 will work fine. The 3" Boss 302 kit won't flow more air since the inlet is only 2 1/2", right? Or am I missing something?

I will post a pic soon. I posted this on another forum as you can see I am in process of completing the same.

This is the kit you're talking about:

I'm actually doing research on this myself, and so this thread is timely. It appears that for the FR500c kit above, the vaccuum-cleaner-like inlet attachment attaches to the back of the front splitter pointing down. Apparently there is a high pressure area behind the front splitter which causes air to push up into the downward facing inlet and into the hose; as opposed to those cooling kits that have an inlet in the bottom grille which rely on forced air. Also, apparently Shelby has adopted this system for the Super Snakes.

This is probably the best solution given there are no holes drilled into the grille, and therefore no change in aerodynamics. The problem is that there is no obvious way of attaching the inlet attachment behind the front splitter, and I have found no guide for where exactly one would attach it.

I'm glad you posted those pics, because it affirms my decision to go with the JLT bezels. I am going to get someone else to do the mods, and I can foresee them making mistakes and having it look a little shoddy like yours. No disrespect, as I'm sure it was very hard work getting it right but I want mine to look like a perfect circle.

The only reason you can see it is the camera flash and the background is white. Once I paint the background satin black you will never be able to tell. For the most part they are dead on round (camera angle makes it look off more than it is)but in some areas it was better to go all the way to edge of the diamond pattern. When you stand back 5 feet you can't see any detail like what you can with an up close with camera pic/flash. Used the hole saw to get the outline then dremel to finish.

Some of those with the JLT bezels wish they didn't have them after the finished look. To each their own.

Thanks for posting CJGT500. What are we looking at behind the grille there - how do the hoses attach to the backside? I'm leaning toward the Boss 302 kit. It's like $190 at Tousley. I believe you will get more coverage area at the brake. Probably nominal, but the airflow is already high pressure being ram-jetted in through the front, a little larger outlet is probably a good thing.

Well if you're just looking to surround the hole and fill the gaps, and you have to hack it up anyway, just get a plastic desk grommet...about $3.50 ea... http://www.rufkahrs.com/cabmakmisc/grom1.html

HC-6435-014...$3.95 ea- Color Black 2-1/2" even has louvers to direct airflow in the direction you like. Put a little "Right Stuff" gasket maker around the outside and lip, hit it with some matte black paint for plastic, and you're in business.

One more question for those that have seen the backside of the bumper cover...are the preformed outlets 2.5" or 3". I'm trying to fit the 302 kit, and it is a 1/2" larger on the brake backplate inlet.
