From father to son: My 2012 GT500

Hey everyone, I’m Rob from Western PA. I've been reading this site for a while, but I've finally decided to join and introduce myself. The GT500 has been a halo car for me for quite some time – Something that I've always wanted to own... Someday. In the past, I've owned two Mustangs:
  1. A Mineral Grey 2002 Mustang GT, manual
  2. A Black 2010 Mustang GT, manual
My dad passed away unexpectedly 3 years ago, and I came about acquiring my halo car in the worst way imaginable. He graciously left me his 2012 GT500 with just over 4000 miles on the odometer.

It took me a long time to even sit in the car, but I'm finally at a point where I can start to enjoy it.

I kid you not, on my first drive, I turned on the radio and went to check what CD was in it. Turns out that it was a custom Pink Floyd mix that he made, and "Welcome to the Machine" started playing. The lyrics got me immediately:

Welcome my son
Welcome to the machine
Where have you been?
It's all right, we know where you've been

Every ride feels like him. The car is black with matte black stripes, incredibly clean, and completely original except for a CORSA axle-back exhaust.

I run a small YouTube channel called TSTDRVR, where I document the cars in my garage, their upgrades, and vehicle test drives. I also own a 2018 Ford F-150 (the family hauler), a 2014 BMW 328i xDrive, and a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible. Welcome aboard the Forum Rob! Damn that story and the Pink Floyd!!! I’m guessing he knew what he was doing leaving his prized possession to you.

Amazing story. Sorry for your loss. Celebrate your dad by enjoying the car he left to you. Thanks for introducing yourself and sharing your story.

Hey Rob, welcome! Your story hits me hard, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure it’s tough to enjoy your dad’s car without him, but he’s with you every time you fire it up.

I loss my son 3 years ago. He and I always dreamed of getting a Mustang to share together and I was on the verge of buying one when he died. I decided to buy my car as a tribute to him. Every time I go for a drive, I can feel him riding shotgun with me. I’m sure your dad is doing the same with you!

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss as well. My kids are my heart walking around outside of my body. Losing them... It would simply be too much. I'm confident that he's there, riding shotgun, in spirit for sure!

My dad and I always connected through music and cars, so I always make it a point to turn the music up to 11 and say out loud, "Can you hear me, Dad? This is for you!"

Welcome to the forum, Rob. Sorry for your loss but you found a great support group here. We love our cars and spending other's money. Beautiful car your dad left you, so enjoy every moment in it.
