I use my own two eyes and common sense. If I’m on a long road trip I’ll use Waze. Don’t be the fastest guy in the pack, don’t speed where it doesn’t get you anywhere faster (surface streets), and be situationally aware. Haven’t been pulled for speeding in 15+ years since I ditched my Escort and I’m usually at least 10-15 over.

DS1 is backordered at the moment due to the chip shortage.

As others have stated check out Vortex Radar. Based on his reviews, I purchased a Uniden R3, several years ago. The blend mount and wire tap is such a clean install, and I highly recommend you go that route on mounting. Several great detectors available these days, pick one that suites your needs and budget.

Eh, I haven't gotten pulled over for speeding since 2007 either. I'm very picky about my spirited driving spots. Never hurts to have a good radar detector though.

Funny you should say that.. guess what I’m watching on YouTube as we speak, lol. I was actually looking at the non-WiFi Escort 360 too. Sounds like the WiFi version would be worth the extra money?
WiFi is worth the extra money only if you are activating the in car hotspot (which I do). If you have the in car hotspot active, then the Escort connects to the car hotspot when on and gets all its updates and live alerts from the WiFi instead of needing to connect to your phone via bluetooth and deal with the app. Also, if the detector needs to update its firmware, it does so over WiFi rather than having to plug the detector into your laptop. MUCH easier.

Guys running the mirror wiretap on the 2020+ GT500s: anything to pay attention to / gotchas to report? Looks pretty straight forward?
Super easy install. Much much better than my previous BMWs and Range Rover. Only gotcha is the contacts in the mirror tap are a little loose, so you may have to tape the contacts to the back to the mirror to make sure they don't slide out.

I thought that way too. But most of the jurisdictions around where I live use Lidar or instant on. Unless you pay big money for a laser shifter no radar detector will save you from those. I learned that the hard way a long time ago which is why I ditched using them altogether. It created a false sense of security for me. If someone wants to spend the money for “piece of mind” then by all means have at it. But for me, I’ve avoided being pulled over for so long by using common sense and being aware of my surroundings.

I’m currently running a redline 360c with blendmount. Upgraded from the uniden R3 for auto lockouts, and the cloud functionality.

I get your point, however, I run an old detector combined with Waze. Yes, instant-on will not give you advanced warning if you are the lone car on that stretch and you are the target from a hidden cop. I’ve had many times through the years though where someone ahead was targeted and I got the warning in time. Now with Waze, stationary cops are often reported before you get there. The detector lets you know if you’ve been targeted or not. It’s like intel when going to war… more intel is better than less intel.
Please enter your car year in your vehicle details so we know what year GT500 you have. It helps in conversations when dealing with different years.

Once you’ve been targeted it’s too late. And yes you can get advanced warning IF you’re behind someone who gets tagged, but that goes back to my previous statement of “don’t be the fastest one in the pack”. If you’re on your own then nothing is gonna save you from instant on or lidar.
Although it’s anecdotal I haven’t been pulled over for speeding in over 15 years and haven’t used a detector since that time. And I’m usually doing to 10-15 over on the highways around here…but then again so is everyone else so as long as I’m not hogging the left lane and passing everyone else, I’ve not much to worry about.

Can’t argue with any of that. I just like the additional info coming from the detector. There are times I’m surprised by cops, but since my detector didn’t go off, I know I wasn’t targeted.

Not worried about daily driving as I don’t use my GT500 for that. Nothing to do with road strategy or lack of SA. Mainly looking for any edge I can get when I’m on the backroads by myself enjoying the car. Over the years I have had numerous first hand experiences of an early warning from a good radar detector saving one’s ass in this and surrounding counties so that point is rather moot. May be different in your part of FL.

I have the R3 with blendmount, but hardwired down to the fuse box. I have both the detector and dash cam wired this way, using a modified approach to what Goose had in his camera install video.

Run escort max 360 with built in gps run in conjunction With app. I think it’s still the best on the market. But remember to still keep your eye out as cops are not stupid and leave radar gun off till it’s to late if your not paying Attention!!!!! Drive fast boys and if there are lights in your mirror. Drive faster. Lol. Play safe have fun. Gt500 17 . Cops. 0. Lol keep trying oinkers.

What are you folks running for radar detectors? I'm eyeing the Uniden R7 with a Blendmount and a Wiretap to the mirror. Looks like a pretty simple, clean install on the '20 GT500.

Decisions...
I use the rocky mountain radar detector, it also has a laser jammer/scrambler in it. Definitely worth checking out, it’s about the same cost.

If you want the ultimate protection, go with the Escort 360CI
A 765 was having one installed when I was having my car wrapped. I think the bill was $6K

Lol that’s when cost/risk ratio should clue you in to how bad your driving is. If you expect to have $6K in tickets and court fees maybe slow down and stop being a 💩 driver 🤣

In 1988 had $1400 speeding ticket no court fees included. Went in to see the Judge and asked if they sent me the courthouse mortgage by mistake. He didn't have a sense of humor.
Took my license for a year too. But, knocked down the fees to $700 with court costs. That was a ton of money back then!
So, got into sport bikes and whala. No more speeding ticket for several years. Until the helicopter showed up at my house 2x. Sold the bike... Wasn't fair ticketing me from the "air". They were very generous though and knocked 70 mph off the speed to keep it under a misdemeanor. At those speeds radar detectors are useless. Your clued in to being targeted by the lights. Now I'm oldish. Don't pull any of those stunts anymore.
Radar detectors for me just allow me to know when the coffers are low and the fines are coming. Got a little spirited a few years ago on my sportbike at 5am when NO ONE was on the road within miles each way. Found out it pulls way hard all the way to redline. My bad...For 2 days they were running radar at 5 am for several miles. Counted 5 units on the road. I was driving my truck those days. Had a feeling I made too much noise. It really carries at 5am.
Again, live in another rural area so if your not a complete ars, usually the ticket is a "toll both". Pay the fine at the court house - think the last one was $70. and doesn't get reported on your driving record or insurance. Hell, I'd pay a standard monthly fee for that chit. Heres your $400. I'll be doing a few blasts to 120ish when no one is within a mile. Sign me up!
Like I think Tim said. If you are solo driver, it won't help you. And that is when it is safest to do a blast. When your in traffic it will warn you by seeing others getting targeted. But, not safe to do anything in those circumstances. So, up to you. I love my R7. Get a false reads at times; but, better than my previous unit.
Usually I run about 10 over and the radar detector reminds me to check my speed. I pay more attention to the outside than inside. I absolutely refuse to be someones pace vehicle. So, I either slow down if they caught up to me or speed up if I was passing them and they decided to hang in there. Can't get in an accident with the moron if he isn't right next to you.
Just my .02 worth.
