Well first I want to call out some folks who have been helping me spend my money! @Saratoga87 @PerfectoGT @Evolvd @Goose17 @QSK50 @GT500 The Mistress if I missed any of you enablers please sound off 🤣🤣
I started thinking about this project the day I bought the car, my son just wouldn’t let it go. He wanted this CFTP wing on his future car. Tim found me a complete CFTP lid with wing ready to unbolt and slap on, unfortunately it sold before I could send the funds. So I started with a check list and began my research. It all came together in the end.
I’m handy with a wrench but drilling holes in my beloved 500 was another story. I started out looking for a new trunk lid that I could paint and not drill the OE lid. Easier said than done 😤 I found a perfect lid but couldn’t find a shop willing to do the paint work. Roadblocks piss me off so I changed gears. Drill I will 🫤.
First step was buying the wing. That was extremely easy from Extreemonlinestore.com made my purchase and just a couple hours later I received a shipping notification. I couldn’t believe it until a couple days later it was delivered!!
Meanwhile I’m searching for the stripes and other bits and pieces. I decided I was absolutely doing the CF deck lid piece. Ordered that from Middleton Ford at a great price after Lethal Performance website kept crashing on me and not processing my order. Saved $50 dealing with Jeff instead.
Gosh darn trunk stripes were my absolute nemesis throughout this entire thing!! I ordered them $150.33+tax from my local dealer. Then after weeks of waiting I called because I had blown 2 appointments to get them installed. They were sitting there over 2 weeks and no one called 😤! Price had some how changed and they tried charging me full retail 😂. I said nope called the owner and got them for employee cost $190.53 out the door. I think the gal accidentally quoted me their cost.
While waiting on the stripes I couldn’t lose my PPF appointment so I went with the wing and deck lid. Thanks XPEL Scottsdale for understanding about the stripes and installing the PPF on the wing and deck lid.
Well yesterday I had some time to prep the car for the install today!
The removal of the Swing was easier than I expected. I’m guessing the sun and heat here played a part in that. During this process I noticed that the Swing had rubbed off some paint on the trunk where there wasn’t any protection. Luckily I had the forethought to buy a touch up pen that will work until I can get it fixed professionally.
Woke up early grabbed myself a gun then headed out to begin the task of installing the stripes and wing. After several hours of frustration with the stripes they were an absolute PITA!!! I opted for the wet application because I figured they would be more forgiving. The struggle is real with a trunk lid that changes direction 5 times 😂😂.
After getting those suckers down it was time to tape everything up and do a test fit. Alignment was perfect marked the holes then drilled them. I seriously thought my son was having a panic attack when I started punching holes in the trunk 🤣🤣.
I started by screwing in a couple threads on the factory holes so I could line everything up. Get everything set locktite the hardware and on it was!! Added a couple washers to the 2 outer bolts on each side because they were just a tad long.
Next step was adding the AR carbon blade hole cover up piece. This is when you realize that every hole Ford puts in these has a raised edge. Fixed that measure align and stick down. Perfect!
Last piece was the end cap stickers from Bemaro. Those were the easiest part 🤣🤣
Finished product in time for a big car show tomorrow!
