Make Supercharger Whine Louder?

1209 Views 56 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Evolvd
I recently purchased a 2022 GT500 and I noticed that the supercharger whine wasn’t anywhere near as loud as others, like the hellcat. I was wondering if there was any way to make the whine sound louder. I’m looking for something that will make the whine be heard from the inside and outside (not looking for any mod that pumps the sound into the interior). Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

Sadly Sebastian, when Ford made the decision to invert the blower for hood clearance (or whatever reason(s) they used,) the whine is essentially silent. To my knowledge, no one has been able to get the sound they THOUGHT it should have. It is what it is. The only time I hear it is after engine shutdown when you get the winding down "purr."

I put on the Kong air intake and kept the "lid" off. It's definitely louder and you can hear the intake of the air as you drive. Also, I don't have the music on. All ya need is a sound of the engine and exhaust.

any of the open CAI's will increase the sound. I have the SPE version and the whine is definitely heard.

Welcome to the forum! Things you can do to make her scream:

Change out the intake.
Spin the supercharger more quickly with a smaller pulley.
Swap out the supercharger lid for an aftermarket version.

Goose hit it on the head. I just had my SC ported with a 2.7 pulley on a JLT intake and the whine is most certainly louder.

Great for adding additional sound, but does require some irreversible modifications to your firewall I believe.

If you wanted everyone else to hear the whine, you probably should have went with a Hellcat. BUT if you want to hear it a little more quickly, try switching the air filter with the K&N one. It's nothing special but I can hear it more on mine with it - I also kept the lid of the enclosure on there but I suppose you could leave it off? Dang, it used to be cheaper than what I see now... It was $60 before!

This is precisely the type of mod I am looking for. Does the installation of the air intake void warranty? I know it generally shouldn't, but I'd like to verify!

The previous gen GT500 had a mass airflow intake setup. It required a tune for any good intake. The current gen is a speed density setup. You can change intakes without tunes and therefore not risk your warranty.

Thanks for the welcome, Goose! I'd be willing to try all three of these options. Brian also agrees with the suggestion, so I might actually try this out! As for the air intake, would you have any recommendations as to which one(s) are the best?

I’m still rock’n the stock intake, but we have lots of members that have switched to aftermarket setups. You will find info in our performance mods section.

They are all about equal as far as power claims so it comes down to which one appeals to you more. JLT, Kong, and SPE are the most seen being used. As for pulleys you can run a 2.9 on pump gas without any other mods but a tune will help greatly.

Would you happen to have a video of what your car sounded like after the installment? I would love to hear what it sounds like for reference! Thanks for the recommendations!
