Fellow Shellby driver/owner
You blew by me about 2 hours ago, heading northbound on a certain highway in Massachusetts, nortwest of Boston.
I was all alone in the dark, with not the slightest hint of a car's headlight behind me. I blinked and there you were, maybe 100 feet behind me. I immediately recognized the 3 slanted lights next to the headlights on my rearview mirror. I was overtaken by the adrenaline rush as you passed me on the left lane and I was pinned back to my seat as my car easily lunged from 75 to 140 and followed close behind you for a few short miles.
I let off the gas about 1/2 mile before we reached route 2, but you ketp on going. As I reached route 2 I watched your tail lights disappear as the hightway curved slightly to the right. Suddenly I was filled with dread and I let out an "oh no..." as I realized what I was about to witness.
That state tropper sits there with his engine running and all his lights off, every Saturday between 1 and 3am, just waiting for careless souls heading home after a night of fun in town to exit route 2 and drive by him going way too fast heading northbound. Over the years I have watched numerous poeple get nabbed on that spot.
You either slamed on the breaks as his flashing blue lights suddenly poped up in front of you while he sat there shielding the guy changing his tire, or you turned off your lights and went for it. I think you did that later.
EIther he did not see you at all, or he did but realized it was already too late and there was no way he had a chance get even close to you before you got off the next exit or sped up faster and faster towards the next exit, after having backed up away from the car in front of him, around it and finally go after you starting from a stand still.
I'd like to think the only thought that crossed that trooper's mind was, "yeah... that's just not going to happen..." and stayed put to keep on doing something he could accomplish, shielding that guy changing.
I drove by him doing 75, watched the flashing blue lights on my rear view mirror. I gunned it the moment his lights disappared behind the car parked in front of him. I watched the numbers on my dash quicky hit 140, 150, 160, but I never saw your tail lights again.
According to Google maps, the distance from where that cruiser was parked and the next exit, which also happens to be my exist, is 2.5 miles. Thanks to you I now know how short a distince 2.5 miles really is, because at 165 it is incredible how god damned fast an exist comes at you out of nowhere. I was just barely able slow down enough and not miss the exit.
I hope you reached your destination safe and sound as I did.
Goodspeed.
