I've seen those gains on the dyno with the hood open and a fan blowing cool air over the engine bay, but my understanding was that the sealed box was chosen over the open element in the GT350 due to an increase in performance when the vehicle was at speed and keeping the filter shielded from the heat in the engine bay and where the direct inlet from the grille opening was able to keep colder fresher air supplied to the engine.

Valid point Kyle. I’ve seen this debated on FB as well. It is difficult to assess this since dynos are done stationary. Those that have done this mod give it great reviews though.

On the track though, the closed lid seems to be the winner according to that Steeda video.

The video used regular MAF Mustangs. I would like to see a similar video using a speed density GT500 before coming to the same conclusion.

Correct. They have a track pack GT500. Maybe drop a bug in their ear.
