I am putting an Eaton Detroit Tru Trac in my 08 and changing to 3:73. Eaton says to use 80w90 non synthetic,no additives or friction modifiers. What do you guys use/recommend? Thx. Bob.

I have a tru trac in mine... standard 80w90 gear oil and no friction modifier is what I used. FYI... I also went 3.73 rear gear and if I had to do it a again...I wouldn't.

I'd stick with the stock 3.31 for a more comfortable driver/cruising car

Thx guys. Bought the torco. The reason I went 3:73 was as I remember the KRs and Supersnakes had em. Not worried about 160mph plus, just want to eat some corvettes ( other mods underway). Thx. Bob.

Rebuilt my 8.8 recently and I've learned from experienced guys that you never should use synthetic and additives during break-in of new gears and diffs, unless the manufacturer recommends differently. Use 85W140 mineral for break-in and consider to stick with it forever. Unless you drive your car in winter and cold climate, then use a lighter weight mineral oil like 80W90. I went from stock 3.31 to 3.55. Main reason was better drivability in traffic with big cams (L&M NSR). Just some more revs (approx. 10%) for the same speed, and the difference between 3.31 and 3.55 is just enough to improve drivability significantly. 3.73 wasn't an option, with 948hp under the hood it would result in much more wheel spin and make it undrivable again for another reason.
