It's interesting. It wouldn't be unprecedented by Ford. Back in the day, I think they added a qt to the SVT Contour after people were blowing motors on the road course. I haven't heard about any GT500 failures though, so it would be nice to know what drove the change.

Thanks for raising the flag, Nick. That definitely is strange. I'm with the others -- if in the hash marks on the dipstick, all is good.

I thought I'd update my findings. Just to recap, I have a 13-14 oil pan on a 5.8 in my 2012 GT500. We know the 13-14 has a bigger oil pan and the part numbers for the dip stick tubes remains unchanged for 07-14, with a different part no. for the dipstick on the 13-14. I changed the oil a week ago and put 8 qts. in it. The car has not moved, not started and is sitting level. I just looked at the dip stick and the oil level is just over the upper hole in the dip stick.

Much where @nickf2005's stick is showing in post no, 8. Since the spec for the 5.8 is 8.5 qts. and the dip stick is a different part number, it does appear Ford raised the oil level on the 13-14 over what it used in the 5.4 and accounts for the add'l quart of oil the 07-12 is now showing as the spec. I'll order the updated dipstick and compare the two.

Yes, but that came out of one of the quarts. I started it after the fill so oil has been circulated, just no start in the last week.

Not to thread jack but since we're on the topic of oil, where is the best place to get the full syntheic 5W50 oil? Most places seem to just carry the blend

Dipstick shows a bit high. However, my last change I got the same 7.4 quarts and everything was fine this summer. I dont get it.

My experience is anything that is only 1/4" or less ABOVE the top hole / hashmark is just fine and won't do any damage. I always ran a full 7 quarts in my 2008 without any problems, and it showed just a hair above the top mark. Same with my Toyota, Nissan, and the old van ... all 12 - 20 years old and running smooth.
