Anyone have any input on car trailers??

I am looking at this...



It is a featherlite trailer 3100, w/o the tire rack on front.

I like the open design so that I don't have to climb through the window.

only 1400#, dual axle brakes,SS tie downs...

If the fenders are not removable, you may not be able to open the doors all the way to access the cabin. My buddies trailer I borrowed allowed for this. Just a thought. Looks like a quality trailer.

I was thinking more like Florida, not Alaska.

I don't like having to climb into the vehicle, and I don't have anywhere to store it.

An enclosed would be awesome , but just not possible.

Much more expensive also, trying to swing this is bad enough.

I agree with HSURB. I think you'll find the aluminum open trailer you are looking into is not much less expensive then a nice (pre-owned) enclosed trailer. When it's hot and sunny or raining, the enclosed trailer is a GREAT haven. Plenty of nice pre-owned trailers around.

I'd suggest looking for one with 5,000 pound axles and a torsion suspension. By the time you put a car, extra set of wheels, fuel jugs and tools into the trailer the 3,500 pound axles are at the limit. The 5,000 pound axles often offer some uprated tire chcoices. The torsion suspension tows much, much better.

Just some thoughts from my trailer search and picking the brains of other trailer owners. Good luck!

This trailer is around $4500, the least expensive enclosed I could find was $6500.

I haven't got a shipping quote back, so I am guessing a little at the price. If it is much over $4500 I won't be getting it.


Closest one I could find is Iowa. I found some really nice ones in Pheonix, but the shipping would kill me.

People all around this area race so it is near impossible to find a used one around here.

My plans would be to get the car to events farther away than I'd like to drive it and an occasional run to V.I.R.

That's a good price. I'll bet it's a 2007 model because Featherlite had a significant price increase for 2008 models. That's exactly the trailer I'm looking at myself in a 2007 model. I'm going with the fiberglass nose piece also to protect the car from rock chips and road debris. It's a $600 option but a necessity for open trailer. One rock chip repair would be more than $600. There are a couple of "07s on the ground in the Denver area if your looking.

Dealer in Va--trailer is built in Indiana so they would charge some shipping..
