In this video, I show a step-by-step DIY hardwire install of Blackvue's DR900X-2CH dash cam on my 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Track Pack. I take you out for daytime and nighttime drives to see how the dash cam operates. I also show the phone app interface and give my review of the setup. The step-by-step "how to" install begins at 14:45.

Thanks Ron!

Between the install, filming and editing, this video consumed two weeks!

I highly recommend this camera for your daughter. It’s a nice setup.

Another great How-To-video Tim. Keep em coming.

When I bought my Escort 360C, I included the HD M1 dash cam. Although it's not the quality equipment you installed and doesn't have the rear camera, it provides me the option to swap it from car to car. You can also view, edit and share from your smartphone w/o leaving your car. If you bundle those two, the M1 comes out to $120.00. Pretty reasonable for what you get.

Thanks Steve! 🍻

The one I installed is a $500 setup... it’s not cheap, but it’s a nice dash cam!

I know nothing about the M1. How is the resolution?

I had one of those I purchased at SEMA 2019. It was total garbage. You could not download an update from their website and install it on an SD card. The camera will only operate with their SD cards which are 3x the going rate. Their SD cards only last 6 months and the unit wont last a full year. I had to send mine back to Korea twice. They are extremely heat sensitive and burn out quickly. Great when they work but it is just not for long.

You had the S version if you bought it in 2019. The X version was released a couple months ago in December. The X has some improvements, including better ventilation and better heat tolerance. If you watched the video, you’ll see me download an update with my phone using their app and then flash it to the dash cam... worked like a champ! What is true is that only their micro SD cards work with the dash cam. As of now, I have their 64 GB card... we shall see if I need a bigger card in the future. As is, it records 5 hours 40 minutes in “highest” and 3 hours 40 minutes in “extreme and the clips can be downloaded wirelessly to your phone. I have driven the car a few times with it installed and have been impressed.

You would have to check your local area for electronics shops that do custom installs.

I had never installed anything like this before, but I found it straight forward. If you buy the same camera system and follow my video to a T, you will have good results as well.

Thank you for another great video how-to Tim.

Installed mine today without a hitch, unless you count hunting down the Micro II fuses (finally found some at AutoZone, which did not have the fuse tap, but same brand); LittleFuse calls them Micro2 and O-Reilly's "has" them, but were out of stock.

Dang, when did fuses get so small?

I ran the rear camera power line along the passenger side as there was plenty of wire and I put the front camera power line "through" and behind that doo-hicky near the air bag as I could not figure out how to pop it off; kind of like threading a needle.

As an added bonus, I finally washed the inside of the rear window.

You motivated me so much I plan on installing these cameras in my Silverado later this week.

Outstanding Lance! Thanks for the feedback and congrats on a success mod! 🍻

Go to Blackvue.com and watch their videos. They do a side-by-side comparison of the DR900X and the Plus. Since it’s a digital camera is uses a sensor to capture the video instead of film. Camera sensors are like any other electronics, there are cheap ones, good ones, and great ones. But as also with electronics, the best parts cost much more so camera builders are slaves to form factor (size of the entire package), overall cost (passed on to consumers), and advances in technology.

I’m with Tim on this, the front camera records audio as well unless you turn that feature off. If you leave the speed sensor on you’ll know how fast the car is traveling and with our exhaust you can tell in the audio how much go juice the driver is giving it.

The older cameras needed the battery pack. This new one uses the car battery and will shut itself down when it senses the car’s battery has been drained below a preset level. My camera runs for 24 hours after I park the car and I haven’t had any issues.

Now that summer has seemingly arrived (low to mid 90's this entire week despite the 'normal' temp range of mid 70's), I am trying to get motivated to get many of the parts I've got laying around FINALLY installed in the car.

One such thing is my Blackview dash camera I ordered and received a few months ago. This leads me to asking: if anyone has installed this in a 2007-2010 GT500 yet, and if so, did you have any particular issues while installing, and if so, what were they and how did you work around said issue(s)?

I've already watched Goose's video a few times (which is ultimately what led me to pull the trigger), but intend on re-watching it again before I begin to do the install despite it not being specifically relevant to my car's installation. Obviously, I remember he provided many great tips during installing his, so I'm certain reviewing it prior to my install can only make things easier for me in the long run.

Off the top of my head one of the few specific things I expect to be different, will be deciding which particular unused fuse location I can use for powering the system. Considering this, I figured I'd at least toss up a quick post to check if anyone who did install this in their 2007-2010 GT500's, where they eventually choose as the location for powering to the system.

I'm being extremely lazy by asking, since I haven't even looked in my car manual at this point. Still, I thought I'd ask here to get ideas ahead of time so when I do go grab my manual to start my planning, I'll already have at least one successfully implemented option in mind.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

Do you have a volt-meter? If so you can choose whichever switched 12 volt fuse you want.

I can't remember if you or someone mentioned that previously to me or just in this thread, as I did NOT buy fuse taps from them as well. I jumped on amazon right after ordering the camera and ordered a larger sim card and 'Recoil' fuse taps for the intent on using them during my installation. Any previous knowledge about that brand of fuse taps?

You can simply use the tester that has a light on it… forget what it’s called… stick it in a slot… if the light comes on, there is power! You want 2 sources: first is switched-on (powered when car is running) and second is always-hot.

I am getting ready to install the DR970X-2CH kit. I am not 100% clear on the fuse panel wiring. I was able to purchase a Fuse tap kit from Blackvue part # FTM-3A. This comes with two fuse tape and two 3A fuses. In your installation video @ the 17 minute mark you talk about hooking Camera harness into #2 and #31 fuse locations for installation. Where I am confused is on the installation of the mini fuse tap l to the fuse panel itself. I assume I need to remove the existing 10A fuse from the #2 and #31 panel locations and place them in the top slot of the fuse tap but what I am not clear on is what goes in the bottom slot. Do I have to go and but addtionall 10A fuses and put them there as well? In the video you mention the #2 slot only gets top but then the #31 slot gets 2 10A fuses?

Please advise

Just watched that section as it’s been quite awhile. Looks like I have 10 am fuses in both slots.

@Goose17 Do you use the LTE version or have your own hotspot? I thought I got the camera with LTE version and didn't so I wanted to see if you or anyone else is using it before i add it?

Also, a quick question about the fuse setup, I installed based on your video and the camera worked fine for the first drive. After that I had no power and determined the inline fuse on the battery (yellow) wire had blown. I bypassed it by removing that fuse and it works fine again. Did you experience the same? If so did you bypass it or find another solution? Thanks for your help!

Haven’t had any issues after wiring it for this video.

I don’t have cloud service with my dash cam. I just download footage to my phone through the app using the phone’s Wi-Fi.
