Blackvue DR900X-2CH dash cam install....evidently I need to spend time on the short bus. Looking for help

I've finally set aside some time to get this installed, especially since I wanted it working for the drive to Shelbyfest and back.

Well, unfortunately I must be a bit slow on the uptake or something because I cannot get mine to power on despite going over it the install multiple times. I've moved the fuses to different locations on the fuse tap itself, I've rotated the fuse taps 180 degrees to see if that helps...and still cannot get the camera to power up so I can connect to its wifi.

I plugged the ACC connection into the #5 fuse location, and the constant to the #9 one (both unused) on the passenger side kick panel fuse box. Both spots were confirmed by using my tester, so there is no reason it shouldn't now work, yet here I am.

Thoughts.....Suggestions??

At this point, I've had to walk away since I can feel my frustrations starting to build and I know well how that usually ends.

If worse comes to worse, I was wondering if I brought the necessary tools needed for the installation as well as the actual camera kit down, if there might be a way for someone to look over things and see what I have incorrect since I evidently can't figure it out.

This car is becoming a bit of a unicorn to me....I use to work and modify my Mustang GT constantly and never had any issues when I did. This car, I can't seem to change out a light bulb and it either doesn't work or it messes up five other things.

I was notified early Friday morning that my dash camera has been fixed and is on its way back to me, and I should receive it Tuesday.

The diagnosis was that the power board was bad and had to be replaced.

Again, hats off to them for their service thus far. They received the camera on Tuesday morning, diagnosed the issue, promptly repaired it, and now have it back on the way to me...all within two days. Plus, taking the time to email me with what they found as well as the new tracking number.
Awesome! Did they charge you for the fix?

I paid $90 up front that was to cover the shipping both ways and any cost for repairs. If it ended up not being enough, the max I would have been charged was $120, so it could only have gotten another $30 more expensive no matter what. Considering how much the camera was, up to another $120 so I can use it verses being a paper weight is well worth it.

Good customer service is rare these days. Glad it was a quick fix.

It was defective and you had to pay for the repair?

That is correct. I actually purchased the camera last January, but only got around to installing it the week before Shelbyfest this year. So when I started and found out it wasn't working, I looked up the warranty and of course it was for one year from the date of purchase.

I wasn't happy about it for sure, but I take the blame since I should know better to not at least check to make sure something works after purchasing even if I am not in a huge hurry to get it installed. Had I done that, I would have found it defective and wouldn't have had to pay a penny to get it replaced.

I did receive my dash camera back yesterday, but was unable to find any time yesterday night to confirm it is working. But will hook it up tomorrow morning when I get home from the fire station.

TBO completely honest though, I’m more then a little gun shy as far as plugging it into the hardwired connection for fear of it somehow shorting out yet again (and finding out the hard way I was actually the cause of the original problem), to then be forced to send it out for another repair. So instead of going that route right out of the gate I’m going to initially power it up using the cigarette lighter instead. Once I get both cameras satisfactorily located on the front and rear windows, then complete setting up the rest of my account, I’ll probably cross my fingers and attempt to power it up using the direct wired setup.

Still, if anyone has any thoughts as far as which fuse locations I used for the constant and the ACC connections, or if using 5 amp fuses instead of 10amp ones, (Tim also used 10amp fuses for his installation) , please speak up. Hopefully once successfully connected via the hardwired connection, this will prove be the end of any issues I have with it. Fingers crossed.

My initial post shows which fuse locations I used on the kick panel fuse box for reference.

Again, very impressed by Blackvue’s extremely fast attention regarding the issueI’ve had and returning it to me repaired so quickly.

Test your sources with an electrical tester before connecting to the camera system.

I plugged everything in using the cigarette lighter as my power source and everything booted up fine! I spent the next hour or so configuring the app, and for the most part was successful. Since the app has slightly changed since Tim’s video setup, I did end up spending some additional time to get the WIFI and cloud connections working.

Next, I removed the cigarette lighter connection and plugged the camera in via the hardwired connection…...and still no power to the camera. Since it was getting later into the evening when I was messing with it, I decided I’d wait until today to rotate the fuse taps 180 degrees (as Tim suggests in his installation video if the camera doesn’t power up) and see if that fixes the problem (which I believe it will).

If not, I guess I’ll look into alternative fuse locations to power it to determine if that somehow is the problem.

Since I can now confirm my camera works as it should, obviously any other issues are on my end, so troubleshooting it should be much easier thankfully.

Since this was probably the first time I'd made more then 30 minutes or so to go over my install other then time spent configuring the app, I actually pulled everything and started over so I wouldn't be assuming anything.

Initially I was able to determine that of the two locations I chose to locate the fuse taps at, while both locations worked, the #5 fuse tap only worked if I orientated it where the wire coming out of it (the ACC line) pointed towards the engine compartment. This surprisingly enough to me, differed from the way the second location worked for the BATT+ (fuse location #9). To get it to work as needed, I had to rotate the tap so its wire to point towards the rear of the car....DOH!!!

This ultimately ended up proving to be the issue I'd created for myself other then the bad power board within the camera.

Once I rotated the one fuse tap, I was then able to verify all the fuses were fine, I plugged the camera in and everything now works.

Thanks for the help and suggestions...

Glad you got it sorted out! Now you’ll know how to hook mine up. I don’t have a camera, but if I did ;)

It was included with the camera setup I purchased.
Do NOT use the fuse taps from BlackVue. Go to Oreiley and get some fuse taps made by Little Fuse

edit: I see you got it working, but leaving this info above, the taps sent by BV are trash
