Bitten by the GT3RS bug, comparing my GT500 to the legendary Porsche

I don't know if these cars necessarily get "cross shopped" but being a full on muscle car GT500 lover not giving up my 3.8 Whipple GT500.... Days in a GT3RS have made me absolutely fall in love.

First the build quality God is it a masterpiece in person. It's like a high end watch, a piece of art just gorgeous to look at. The bare carbon seats, the carbon frunk shell feels like it weighs a pound. The carbon ceramic brakes.

What an absolute riot of a car how it drives. Initially I told myself this would be a slow & underwhelming ride and by having one for a few days put any "want" I had to rest 😂

Well I was WRONG, two days in and I just keep falling more in love with the damn thing. The 4 wheel steering and handling is mind boggling with the admittedly slower street driving road course I can come up with.

I thought for sure the acceleration would be lethargic at best, well wrong again. The lack of weight being what 3000lbs its a fancy ass go cart and you feel it. From a standstill it's a rocket no wheel slip, from a roll it surprises the hell out of me.

The fixed carbon fiber seats are height adjustable electronically and obviously slide. They are the most glorious seats my butt has ever come into contact with and comfortable I might add.

I have 2 days left with this car and the want has ever more grown.... I don't know if I'm converting but it's absolutely blown me away.

I have more videos hooning' with it.... it was obviously someone's "track toy" before becoming a rental. Its lowered, aftermarket exhaust, cage has harness gear left behind.

They are absolutely bad ass track machines! A buddy has a CFTP and a GT3RS. He sent me a video of him driving the P car around a track. It whips through the corners!

I would not kick one out of bed.

They are amazing on the track. What would amaze me as much would be the cost of track insurance. 😉

When did they stop putting the GT3RS markings on the rocker panels? I have only seen one in person, recent but not new, and forgot to check, but I presume they're painted not vinyl.
As a Pcar and GT500 owner I can appreciate your assessment and the only way I can describe it is the Porsche is a sledgehammer and the Porsche is a scalpel. The driving experience couldn’t be more different but both are awesome and I appreciate both.
At 2.5-3 times the price of a GT500 it should blow you away. The inside of the engine is even more beautiful. Great car - very expensive. ADM’s are through the roof.

Kilobravo - stripes are vinyl.

I assume you meant the “Shelby is a sledgehammer.” The 2020+ GT500 is waaay more agile than the 07-14 GT500. Ford Performance used a Porsche GT3 as their target when developing the track capabilities of the 2020 GT500. I have passed many GT3s and GT3RSs at the track, but a newer RS with good tires driven by a competent driver is an absolute track MONSTER!

On the track it boils down to skill level and balls on the corners......I was able to keep up to most Gt3s but some beat me on my procharged gt350......still need to get the new gt500 on the track

Welcome! What year is your GT500? Base or CFTP?

Cross-shopped more than you think. I always compared the two as an electric toothbrush vs a manual one. The 997.1 has a manual tranny and is pure joy. Have fun!

2021 GT500 with Steeda springs and camber plates. I decided to get the non CFTP because I use this car on the street and can fit both kids in the back. I sold the 2018 black procharged GT350. (I miss the manual but still have a manual G)

The GT3RS is a different class of car in every way compared to the GT500. Sure, the 500 can keep up to a certain extent speed wise but will never be close to the engineering and build quality. The only reason I don’t have one of these is because I don’t have the means. I say if you can afford it, get it. It’s a masterpiece work of art and engineering.

That's one hell of a set of choices you have!! So is the 500 the red-headed stepchild that doesn't have a home inside the garage?

I agree skill would certainly play a factor entirely. The porsche feels like it would be an easier car to drive mildly or at the limit.

I returned the car this morning, they did inform me it was indeed a track star, full exhaust, some tune, and timing equipment are still in it.

I'm looking for one and hope to find the right one within the next 6 months.

300 miles and hooning' on it pretty good,
I was amazed it somehow managed 16mpg here in Naples FL it's all stop and go traffic mostly.

And we discovered the "launch control" lol!
It's the easiest launch control I've used. Just brake and Floor it that's all. Captured the first attempt, didn't have much road ahead so I let off.

"Oh it works" lol

And yes I look like a ****** with my hat, who's the ****** looking kid in the RS that's me thanks

the big advantage GT3 has is on the track corners (lightweight) but loses on the straights (GT500 big power)......so the faster the GT3 enter the turns (this is where you need balls) the higher the chance you will overtake the GT500 (pig heavy on corners in comparison)

Be aware some 2013’s had an engine recall (replacement) and the 2013-16 extended warranty is up after 10 years If you are looking at older ones.
