Shawn, I have an Escort in mine, and it has done well. It's a detector and laser shifter (scrambler is a bad word in some states). It's an older model from back around 2011, and it's got wired sensors/emitters in the front and back of the car. Knock on wood it's still working well. So your search might be better if you clarified if you are looking for stand alone units that are put on the dash or rear view mirror compared to units that have wiring necessary to front and rear bumpers.

Also, do a search for radar detectors on this forum. This topic has been brought up a few times before with members sharing their experiences.

Looking to see what everyone has and what your opinions are on current detectors. I’m looking for an all-in-one radar/laser and maybe even scrambler.
Detailed reviews, up-to-date recommendations, and detailed configuration advice are available at Vortex Radar.

FWIW, I remain happy with Uniden R3 detectors, to which I upgraded a few years ago.

Its all about situational awareness :) I did a blendmount with an Escort Redline 360 hardwired into mirror. I had cop trail me far enough behind that i was not aware. He was locked on me hard. 1 goose of the pedal and i wouldve been toast.

I went with the Uniden R7 but almost went with Escort 360. Uniden was supposed to have longer range and it has worked 3 times in 200 miles of driving. It is a little too big to put above the mirror so I have it in upper left of windshield which may reduce the rearward detection.

As an engineer and a car crazy enthusiast I've had Valentine for decades. Mike Valentine started everything as a co-developer of Escort. The latest Valentine V1 Gen 2 is fabulous. Have one for me and one for the better half.

He has been the technical leader since detectors first came on the scene. Very user friendly devices and a company with great customer service, something that we hardly see in any industry these days. I don't have to tell you what I mean.

Reference to mounting location. I was a Deputy Sheriff in Florida for almost ten years and was trained in drug interdiction. I would look harder at a car if they had a visible radar detector. The good news was for drug interdiction I rarely wrote tickets because our goal was to get voluntary consent to search the car. I will say Troopers I know are more willing to write a ticket to someone if they see a radar detector.

I mostly use my detector on back country roads to make sure nobody is about to crest a hill or come around a corner if I am doing 0-60 pulls (not a contest of speed merely getting to the legal speed limit expeditiously and testing my emergency acceleration on the car in case I ever need it merging onto an interstate somewhere).

I will add I had one of six 1995 Caprice Classics with the LT1 motor (the so called pursuit cars) and I could hit 149 top speed (I had lights on top. Slick top would get to 155) and would routinely blow away the Crown Vics and 6 Cylinder Chevies the city had back then). I would of loved a 2021 Shelby GT500 Pursuit Car. I think it might be the ultimate. Need to do something about crossing a grass median on the interstate but other than that.

Sounds like a total misuse of the GT500, you should have just bought a Tesla lol

Valentine 1 Gen 2 here. Much improved over the last model that was overcome with all the surrounding cars nanny sensors.

that said, when I do get the occasional ticket (1st in 11 years just two weeks ago, 37 in a 30 late at night) I immediately give them to my attorney who vigorously fights them.

if they broke tickets into two categories (revenue and truly dangerous driving) and did not report the low level infraction to the insurance industry, I would jut pay the ticket.

Any cop who writes a ticket for less than 10 over has issues. We used to get in trouble for writing BS tickets like that. When you take into account the variations in speedometers and the calibration of the radar your +- would have been less than 5mph. He probably owns a Tesla. Sorry for all the replies I am sitting here working today.

it was a trap. There were 4 LEO’s hiding in a parking lot on a long sweeping curve where you can only see so far in front.

9:40pm

I was the 3rd vehicle pulled over on the side of the road while I was getting my ticket and I saw the 4th LEO’s car light up just as I was about to leave.

my V1 was in my car, I was driving my truck. Now I take it with me no matter which vehicle I am in.

Your lawyer should have a field day with that one. Judges don't like "speed traps", but who knows it might have been for revenue generation in a small town and they don't care.

Valentine V1Gen2 here. I love it but it doesn’t do anything active against laser, as far as I know.

Mazda’s driving sensors also gives it fits, even with the latest update.

I’d like to try one of the others but at the prices they are, I’m not going to buy a bunch of different ones to try. I do take mine out and move it to whichever car I’m driving. I do need to get another detector for my wife but haven’t decided which one. The previous replies have me thinking about one of the Escort 360’s.

Unless you have a jammer, a LIDAR detector just informs you that you have been tagged.
