I have never lumped all model year GT500s together in past discussions. I’d have to have data for the 60s/70s GT500s if that was the case, which I do not. I have lumped all of the S197 GT500s together when talking about 07-14 GT500s as well as lumping together all of the S550 GT500s together when talking about 20-22 variants. If you want to compare all GT500s ever made 60s until now to all AC Cobras ever made 60s until now, I have no idea on those numbers.

The OP has a 20-22 GT500. There are roughly 15k of those in existence. There will be no more made ever. Yes, there very well could be a future Shelby, but it will be something different entirely.

@Calif-GT500 I get what you are saying about a sea of Mustangs… very true! There are a ton of S550 Mustangs on the roads today.
For clarity because the OP has said this is not high priority, post #49 I specifically stated lumping together MY 2000+ GT500’s, and I was briefly reiterating that in the post you quoted. And yes, you have lumped 2007-2014MY’s in multiple posts between you and Alibi for example while discussing rarity, which is part of this topic.

Yes, I have and will continue to lump 07-14 GT500s together, which is quite different than lumping all GT500 model years together. Same with the 20-22.

All great replies thanks guy! As always great insight from this forum. I would definitely buy a built one as the depreciation hit has occurred. To make it even more frustrating is here in California it has to be registered as "1965" car or have a "SB101" Smog exemption sticker. So of course a car that has either of those goes for a pretty penny.

Just an itch for now but Hmmmm . . .

That is a very tough decision, the Cobra is the most fun I’ve ever had in a car, but it is a hard car to own when it is your only car!!
We all watch the weather very closely when we take her cars out, but with the cobra, there is no room for error as a quick afternoon thunderstorm could really ruin the day.
I have owned to Backdrafts and would love to own another one, but when I was looking over the winter, a new cobra is the same price as a CFTP GT500 with what Covid did to the market, and as much as I love the cobra, there is no comparison between the two cars for the same price, the GT500 in technology alone along with all the modern conveniences is the best all around car!!!
I have been fortunate to own another car each time I have owned the cobra, and to be honest, that is the only way I would do it again!!

When discussing rarity I think you have to differentiate between enthusiasts and the general public. Most member of the general public won't be able to immediately identify a 2020-2022 GT500 from any other modded S550 Mustang, especially with the GT500 style front bumpers, hoods, and wings around. I see more GT's driving around my area of Atlanta with GT500 bodykits on them than actual S550 GT500's.

This also doubles for the Cobra side in that most of the public won't be able to tell the difference between a factory five kit car with an old foxbody carbureted 5.0 in it vs an actual numbers matching original 427.

I had a Superformance (only way to go when buying a cobra replica in my opinion), I purchased it in 2005 to satisfy my childhood dream. I had it for 10 years and then later purchased the 2020 GT500 I have now. The Superformance truly was an amazing car, incredible raw horsepower/torque and head turner like no other. For me, especially now at my age (50), I appreciate the comforts of the GT500 (a/c, technology package, etc...) compared to the cobra. Loved and miss the cobra but extremely happy with the GT500

I own ERA #582, with a 427 side oiler. Bored out to 454. Car has 508 whp and is a donut machine. It is a lot of fun and is quite loud. I had it custom built for me in 2001, and it has the sweetest motor I have ever owned. If you are comparing a Cobra to a GT500, stop doing that. No comparison. The Cobra has no windows, no roof, and vibrates like crazy. It is not a daily driver, even in AZ where I am. The trunk is small, the car is small. No power brakes or steering. The motor is the radio. No A/C. The only thing I love more than starting that car is turning it off. It is exhausting to drive. If you want something tamer, go with an English style car. Rear exhaust, smaller motor, wire wheels, built for a gentleman. My car was built for Godzilla.

Andy, we’re going to need to see photos and videos of that machine. It sounds amazing!
A friend once told me when he first got his Cobra it was hot and loud. After a couple months he add the word “too” lol it wouldn’t stop me from owning one :)

A friend had one that I helped him put together after a refresh. Factory Five. Truly stunning to this day, as another friend has it now.

Most fun 30 minute car ever.

Post #67 sums it up pretty well from my perspective.

I should probably add the obvious, it has no traction control and no stability control. No airbags, no safety features but skill of the driver. I love it for all of these reasons, but it is no GT500. Real easy to steal, a death trap in most accidents. Can't drive it and leave it to anything but the country club and a car show. I'm 6'2", at the height limit for comfortable driving, and I have short legs for my size. Did I mention it is LOUD?

@TexShelby that is Cobra porn right there! Lol Very nice clean setup! I agree with the all the comments above about the Cobra being loud, not comfortable, etc. but that might be part of the allure. Lol I think one the things I miss most about my 2023 Boss it the manual transmission and the more visceral driving experience. The GT500 is so fast and so refined, maybe too refined if that can be said about a car.

It would have to find the perfect car, in the perfect location, from the perfect seller to make a switch. If I had the cash and space to do both I would certainly do so.

I'm pretty sure there's more than 1/2 a Mustang on the roads today. I saw 2 the other day, and that's 4 tons right there.
