Hey folks. New member here. Looking at a few GT500s. Are there any differences/ major improvements between 07-14 or 15??? Years to stay away from? I think I read that the first major change came in 2015 with independent rear suspension? Newbie here, so any info is appreciated. Thanks!

No GT500 in 2015, only from 07-14 and then the model returned in 2020.

07 - 09 Same car (Minor Unpdates in 2008-09 included HID Lights as an Option and a new Engine Balancer these years have the Lowest Production Numbers.
2010 - Different Frront and Rear End and Hood and Interior Update and Power Bump
2011-12 - Body Work and Appearance same as the 2010 and 5.4 Engine got an Aluminum Block
2013-14 - Significant Update, 5.8 Dispacement Engine and TVS Blower = Big Power Bump and Interior Updates and Significant Cooling Upgrades.

More info here that includes the original Gen 1 GT500s and GT500KR

Welcome to the forum!

JTB has some good info above... I’ll add:

07-09: 500hp iron block 5.4L with Eaton roots style supercharger. No stability control.
2010: body updated but retained old drivetrain. 540hp stability control added.
2011: aluminum block and electric power steering added hp now 550.
2012: Recaro seats and glass roof options added.
2013: 5.8L aluminum block with TVS supercharger. 662 hp with carbon fiber drive shaft.

2020: built on S550 Mustang. 5.2L aluminum block with 2.65L TVS supercharger making 760 hp. CF driveshaft, IRS, DCT tranny, magneride shocks.

I am new to the Shelby game, but my vote goes to the '13-'14 GT500 if you are not opting for a 2020 GT500. Old school, so-to-speak, and powerful. Plus a manual transmission, which is part of the fun.

I wouldn't buy anything older than a 2010, they had clutch problems from what I heard. Starting in 2010 they upgraded the clutch.

The addition of the SVTPP for 2011-forward was also a considerable benny... And I'd say the aluminum block plus the electric steering for 2011-forward also really upped the driving/handling/weight-distribution ante..

2020 GT500 is a whole 'nother solar system.

2015 they produced 50 GT350's, and then rolled them out in heavier numbers for 2016-forward.

There are a Few:

  • LCD Display - 2013 and early 14 cars show a Pony on startup and in track apps. Later 14 cars show Shelby GT500 text on startup and a snake in track apps.
  • Launch Control RPM range - Early 13 cars allowed a range from 2500-5200 rpm. Late 13 and all 14 cars allow 3000-4500 rpm launch window. Supposedly is the optimum range for the car anyway.
  • Joystick on steering wheel - Revised with a raised pad for the right arrow for easier use without interference with the airbag cover. I believe this 'inconvenience' was mentioned by one of the first 2013 owners on this very site. Perhaps Ford is listening! Anyway, I've seen some late 13 cars with this change in addition to all 14s.
  • Starter- I dont know the exact design changes, but 14 is substantially quieter than the 13s
  • Door Sills - 2013 say '20th Anniversary' below the illuminated SVT. 2014s only have the SVT.
  • Garage Door Opener - Some cars use the 'Homelink' brand and some use 'Cars2U'. Right now it is unclear if there was a model year change, midyear change, or simply dual source during both years.
  • Paint Colors - In 2014 Ruby red replaced Red Candy, and Oxford White replaced Performance White
  • Paint Process - New '3-wet' paint process is used on 2014 MY cars.
  • Heated Seats - Heated function on base seat is standard in 2014; was optional on 13 cars.

Hmmm. I always thought ours is a base model. Which it is, but it has the heated standard seats. Toasty, too!

Thanks @JTB Always wondered what differences they have. Bought mine September of ‘13 so guessing it’s an early build. Better believe I’m gonna check this weekend!

I have a 2010 with the 6" display, on start-up it shows a big Cobra and small GT500. With Good morning, afternoon, evening. When I was looking for a GT500 I noticed the 13 & 14 we're priced 10k or more on price.
