: what is wrong with tire

I just passed the 1000 mile mark on my new 2011 gt500. They were easy break-in miles around town. A couple days ago I noticed this and have only driven the car to the dealer service area and back. I took the car in and showed them the tire. Their conclusion is that I hit something and it caused the little hole on the left and cut/peeled the rubber back. I say it's defective.
This is the front right tire. look at the picture and you can see that if the tire is spinning the wear portion hits the ground before the little hole. if you look really close it just looks like the white portion is some kind of padding right below the tread and they just stuffed it under the rubber. If you peal back where the rubber is, it looks like normal black rubber, next to some white substance. There is also no metal like you would usually see below the rubber, which makes me feel like they put too much padding in the tire.

What do I do?

I don't know how the dealer will treat a tire problem. It would be nice if they replaced them under warranty but if they won't do that maybe they will give you some credit toward a new tire.

With no spare tire I would be worried about driving on a tire like that. Just looks like a defective tire. Or maybe take it to a tire place and ask them what they think. If the tire place thinks the tire is defective then maybe they would sign something to that effect and you could take it back to the dealer.

Goodyear should replace the tire on pro rated basis. The tires have separate warranties. Check with a Goodyear dealer. The dealer should help just out of common courtesy. My sister-in-law had same goodyear run craps and the company replaced under the road hazard guarantee. MIke

Your dealer may advise you to go to Goodyear for a warranty claim. Ford has been tight with warranty claims for the past couple of years now (not your dealer's fault, just corporate Ford policy).

Find a reliable Goodyear dealer for tire warranty. I've had several replaced over the years due to flat spots where the cars sat on a lot for a year or more and the tires wouldn't "round out". :banana_hitit:
