Saleen Performance Vehicles announced that it will end production of their Saleen Mustang vehicles in order to focus on aftermarket parts. The final vehicle, a 2011 Saleen S302, will end a lineage that stretches back to 1983. Production will end in the third quarter of 2011.
Saleen was recognized as the last word in high performance Mustangs, with products being sold through Ford dealers and backed by a warranty. Their legendary bright paintwork and supercharged engines were the stuff of dreams for Mustang enthusiasts and we're sad to see this era come to an end. Saleen also produced a supercar, the S7, from 2000 to 2009.

Steve Saleen left the company sometime ago… Then Shelby and Ford got back together and started making fast Mustangs at a better price. It was only a matter of time. I’m surprised that Rush is still hanging in there.

As I understand it, Saleen did leave the company (sold out). The company bankrupted a year or so ago and Saleen started up the current company, saying that he would honor any and all warranties of the bankrupt co.
As far as I know (which ain't much) he's still there. :silly:

Sorry - but as much as Steve wanted Saleen to be considered a manufacturer... they were always just a speed shop, that took a good product, and made it better, and acted as though they started from scratch... No hard feelings for me, but I always did like the Saleen take on body styling, but later editions began to be too much, with weird looking spoilers, etc. The S7 was awesome though, and would have liked to see more stuff like that, but with the Boss, GT500 being so good, as well as the GT and stuff that can be added... not too many tears will be shed over this.

Apparently, Steve has files a lawsuit. (Cut and Pasted from Saleen Performance Vehicles website )
RESPONSE FROM SALEEN PERFORMANCE VEHICLES TO THE LAWSUIT FILED BY STEVE SALEEN AND SMS SUPERCARS THIS PAST WEEKEND
To note:
• In February, 2009, MJ Acquistitions purchased many of the assets of Saleen Inc., including the rights to the Saleen brand, and certain assets relating to Saleen's supercharger, aftermarket and high performance street vehicle businesses.
• That part of the company is now doing business as Saleen Performance Vehicles, as a member of the automotive technology enterprise that also includes Power-Tec Engineering, Cyltec, Control-Tec, and Arrow Racing Engines.
• Saleen Performance Vehicles is preparing to launch two, new Saleen high-performance 2010 Mustangs this year, including a vehicle later this week during Mustang Week activities in Myrtle Beach, SC.
• Steve Saleen officially left Saleen, Inc. in 2007.
Statement from Mike Shields, President and CEO of Saleen Performance Vehicles:
TROY, Mich., July 20 -- “We’re dismayed by the lawsuit that was filed this weekend by Steve Saleen, and even more disappointed by the fact that it appears to be an attempt to disrupt the debut of our new Saleen vehicle this week.
“Our company’s purchase of certain assets in February entitles us to use the Saleen brand for our superchargers, aftermarket parts and high performance vehicles, and we look forward to continuing the legacy of great Saleen products that fulfill the brand promise of ‘Power in the Hands of a Few.’
“While this lawsuit is an unfortunate minor distraction, our dedicated team of enthusiasts is excited about not only the launch of our exciting new Saleen car later this week, but also on working closely with our loyal dealers and customers to ensure their satisfaction. As I stated last week during a media teleconference, we are working to resolve past warranty issues and have every intention of going forward with a warranty policy that will provide confidence to all our valued stakeholders.
"The Saleen Performance Vehicles brand is not about one person. It represents a legacy of high-performance vehicles that has developed over the past quarter century, and we feel privileged to be entrusted with that legacy going forward. Everyone in our company takes that responsibility seriously. That's why we're so enthusiastic about the future of our company, and why we can't wait to begin its latest chapter this week at Myrtle Beach."

SALEEN PERFORMANCE VEHICLES - WARRANTY UPDATE
TROY, Mich., July 24, 2009 – Saleen Performance Vehicles has announced an update to its warranty policy – a solution that enables Saleen Performance Vehicles to provide warranty coverage for 2005 to 2009 model year Saleen vehicles. Previous communications had indicated that vehicles delivered to dealers prior to February 2009 would not be covered by a Saleen Performance Vehicles warranty.
Saleen Performance Vehicles will cover the parts and labor costs required to complete warranty repairs to vehicles still within their original warranty coverage (1 year/12,000 miles or 3 year/36,000 miles). This includes vehicles currently in stock at dealerships.
Saleen-certified dealerships have been instructed to follow existing warranty approval processes, including contacting the Saleen Support Center to confirm warranty coverage and sales dates, obtaining prior approval, receiving authorization to commence work, and ordering parts.
"We investigated several alternatives, and we believe this solution is in the best interests of our dealers and customers," said Mike Shields, CEO of Saleen Performance Vehicles, "and will prove to be beneficial as we re-launch our operations."
For 2010 model year Saleen vehicles, including the new Saleen 435S that is currently being launched, Saleen Performance Vehicles will cover the parts and labor cost required for warranty repairs for a 3-year/36,000-mile period.
I think Steve left the company in or around 2007.
This thread is not about Steve Saleen nor his new co. called SMS Supercars? http://www.smslimitedusa.com/index.html
They are doing mustangs and also camaros and chalingers? just not the aro packages.
He is still invalved with Mustangs.
As far as Saleen mustangs go I never seen one of them that would idle worth a shitt unless it was retuned after it left there plant. In the beginning I also liked the way they were going but lately I would much reather have what I have.

Every Saleen car I saw and read the spec on seemed to only have mild power modifications, usually less power than a Shelby but more than a GT but the cars all seemed to have the Saleen name all over them. Almost like you are driving an advertisement around. I never could figure out why anyone would want them. Somewhat similar to Rousch. I don't think Rousch Phase I and Phase II have any power mods and I think the Phase III makes less HP than does the Shelby, I think 525. But I DO like the Rousch wheels. Nice clean design and look like they would be easy to keep clean.

Most of the newer Saleens I've seen in person were glorified stickers and some body parts. The exhaust was a minimal upgrade at best too. I know they made some better optioned mustangs but all the dealers in the nova area all seemed to get the entry level V6 and GT packages with crazy adjusted market pricing that would almost let you buy a GT500 if you added a couple grand.
