: First time at Track with 2011 and TVS
SneakySnake 02-06-2011, 06:27 PM Finally got a chance to run at Fayetteville MSP today. Did 16 hot lap runs, then 2 later.
Not sure if I should be happy or not. Temp was low to mid 50s, F1 G:2 tires. I used Dynomaster app to record runs. It doesn't take reaction time into consideration since it starts recording when you move. My best timeslip run was a 12.04 at a trap of 126.7. The dynomaster app on that one said trap was 126.18 with an ET of 10.39 - The other runs were pretty close timeslip to app also for trap speeds.
Had to launch at practically idle, short shift 2nd and 3rd then power 4th (I actually got loose and spun at over 100 shifting to 4th once). Car is stupid fast. I don't think I'm going again until I can get some wheels/tires for just track use.
I trapped a tick over 128 once.
My question is, given the HP/TQ I'm putting down and those Trap Speeds, given a perfect reaction time (like the app basically records)...does that 10.39 sound realistic?
Had fun anyway..best 10 bucks I spent in a while.
GT500NN 02-06-2011, 07:28 PM Your reaction time has no influence on your ETs.
Sa-When 02-06-2011, 09:10 PM I would think 128 would put you in the 10.?? range but not sure how deep into the tens..alot of it would depend on how well you get out of the hole, and through the 60FT..I am sure other guys here will be able to tell you for sure though.

hmmmm...I was under the wrong undersranding ref e.t. googled and learned
GO-SVT 02-07-2011, 05:14 AM Forget about 10.39, you aren't going to be close to that ET.
As for stats, notice you didn't post any 60 foot time. 60 foot time is where it's at. Live it. Learn it. Improve on your 60 foot time and the ET will follow along for the ride. 128 MPH trap with a 12.0 ET indicates that you aren't leaving very hard.
You'll get advice here about getting better tires and changing your suspension, and it's all valid. But I'm one of those people who believes you will greatly improve your driving ability by first taking your lumps and trying to do the best that you can with what you have in the way of limited traction. Keep working at developing your clutch and go-pedal management skills. You should easily be able to "pedal" that car deep into the 11's without changing anything but your technique.
Glad you had fun, it's addicting.

+1 My goal this season? Seat time. My mod? Technique.
VNMOUS1 02-07-2011, 07:09 AM Couldn't agree with GO-SVT more. But let me underscore his point about 60' times. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. (OK,so I'll underscore, italicize and cap and bold)
It is the ONLY way you'll get the most out of your car. iPhones are neat for showing pictures of your kids or for acting like it's a pump shotgun (that really is a bizarre app), but that app you're using only takes speed and approximate time and the reading you had in the 10.3's was what that speed COULD have given you in an absolutely dead-perfect launch at around a 1.2-1.3 60'. No offense, but that's not happening til you lose about 500 pounds off the car, do serious suspension work, buy a big honkin' set of slicks and re-gear your car to use them. Oh, and since I have no idea whether you're a hack like me or a pro like John Force, let's just assume you can put it all together perfectly. THEN you could get a 10.3 out of your car and setup at that power level. Other than that.....it's like the old adage goes...."How do I get to Carnegie Hall?"

Just about the most fun you can have for the money ($20 around here)! :banana_hitit:

Hey, I was just on Justin's site and saw this:
http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.php?p=product&id=420&parent=88
He sells for the same price as M&H (nobody discounts them) but he has free shipping!! That's awesome!
I cut 1.50s with this same compound. They're awesome.

ItsAFakinShelby 02-07-2011, 01:07 PM I totally agree with bj and GO-SVT. The app is for fun, but if you really want to work at it, legitimate time slips are the only way. Work at the 60', and get yourself some good DR's if you really want to use that 650whp. By the way, you should be able to trap around 133(ish) with great technique and a well setup car.
Best of luck,
Steven
SneakySnake 02-07-2011, 05:36 PM I've got the driver mod down from racing my 99, 04 and 08. I'm not really looking to max the car out down the 1/4. Would never change any suspension stuff except wheels/tires at the track. Would never want to mess up the way the car handles on VIR. I plan on going there quite a few more times.
I launched from basically idle, shorted 2nd and 3rd. Was a totally different experience launching this one versus the 08. I think I've talked the wife into driving the 08 against me. Hope she goes through with it..would be HOT, lol.
corepuncher 09-20-2011, 09:34 PM Hi all.
I'm fairly new to this stuff...but looking to mod. I have a 2011 GT500 SVT.
I found a used 2.3 TVS for 2200 bucks. Leaning towards getting it...along with a tuner/tune. Aside from that, what else will I have to get? Larger throttle body? Anything else? Overdrive pulley? Would I have to modify fuel delivery at all or would stock work for this setup? Thanks in advance.
OVENMAN 09-20-2011, 10:07 PM $2,200 is a great deal on a TVS. A TVS and a tune would be great.
All that other stuff you mentioned all adds up to more but you can just get the TVS and tune for now.

like everyone is saying... your 60' foot is everything. as far as your trap speed is, you should be at least in the mid to low 11s. more than likely you are spinning when you launched so you probably have like a 2.0-2.3 60 ft. my advice is go on some drag radials or some slicks. i love the NT05R's for a drag radial and a Hoosier QTP's for a slick. depending on what you go with find a good launching point and dump the clutch. guarantee you going to drop tenths really quick and run more less a mid to low 11. maybe even lower if the temp is right and the track is prepped really damn good!!
TXSVT 09-29-2011, 02:52 PM Well your better then me took the Shelby to the track last weekend but wussed out and just watched didn't want to embarrass myself with the stock wheels and tires on but as stated got to start some where I would at least like to have some better tires on first as I don't want to do short burn outs on my stock tires if I don't have to.

Holy derailment..haha I had forgot about this post.
Reference the TVS on an 11, you don't need any supporting mods. The TVS with a 2.50" pulley on completely stock 11-12 is good to go for Mid 650s to the wheel. If you have extra money, you can add TB, Headers, hi flo cats/offroad pipe, etc as long as you bump up Injectors or BAP and probably Heat exchanger. I don't have much problem with heat soak even in NC summer with stock 11 dual pass HE. If I were to go to 700+ with headers, TB, etc I would upgrade the HE personally.
