Hey there everyone,

I just thought I'd see how many Shelby's we had here in Calgary and if anyone was interested in sharing information on where to go and get the mod's for our cars.
Thanks, hope to hear from some of you soon.

Hey #7,

I'm most likely leaving the car stock, maybe putting in the 3 stage turn signals. We'll see, as I get used to the power and handling and want more this could all change. Not to mention letting my bank account catchup !;~)

A buddy of mine told me about a track day a Race City, its not actually a track day it's an organized race school by corvetteracingadventures.com
You can bring your own car though. I personnaly will not be butting my Shelby on the track, as I crashed my bike there 2 years ago :-(

Anyway take care, we should organize a get together for Calgary chapter?

Hey there GPSWES,
The track day sounds good, but I agree with you that it'd be a good idea to get used to all the power first.
Maybe later in the summer.
As for mods. I don't know if you have been following all the posts on this forum, but the one on wheel hop really got my attention the other day. It was nuts, the back end felt like it was going over about 50 speed bumps at the same time. Not a pleasant feeling. I didn't even take off all that fast at all and it hit me.
Thanks to this forum, I was able to get a solution worked out. I figure that the Steeda kit should do for what I am looking for. I spoke with the guys down at WMSracing here in town and they are giving me better prices than the price online @ Steeda.com themselves.
I think that if you were going to do any mods, that should be the first on.
I agree, we should organize a get together for the Calgary GT500 club.
Keep me posted if you hear of anyone else in town that has a car...
Take care

one more in Calgary to add to the list. I'm waiting for my '08 Vapor to be picked up and shipped to Sweetgrass MT.

That's good to hear, what colour are you going with?
I know for at least two other Shelby's, my little brother just got his delivered from New Brunswick (paid sticker) and another buddy of mine got his in November from New Brunswick also (paid sticker).
We all live in the s.e part of the city, so don't be surprised if you see all three out on a cruise one day here in the spring.
Keep me posted.

Canada#7_Shelby,

Looking forward to hitting the black top in the spring. Glad to hear your brother finally got his in. I thought he was expecting delivery before Xmas? Oh well, he received it nonetheless. I'm sure he's quite happy with his new Shelby.

It will be great to get the 3 of us out there cruising the streets.

It would be even better if we could get 2 or 3 more Calgary area Shelbys to join in.

I figure I'll have my car out of storage in mid to late April. Got to wait until the city cleans the streets of all the sand and gravel they dump on them over the winter. Only 3 more months (or less).

It sure feels and sounds good to hear the engine roar once a week.

Take it easy and talk to you in a couple months.

John

Hi Joe,

Every Wednesday night at the Home Depot parking lot across from Chinook Centre (northeast corner of Glenmore and Macleod trails) there is an impromptu show and shine held by the Alberta Mustangs Auto Club (I'll be joining their club shortly). They have the Southwest section of the parking lot blocked off for anyone to come and show their cars. There are all makes and sizes (Fords, Mopars, Chevys, AMCs, Exotics, Hot Rods, etc...). If the weather permits, I'll take the Shelby there tomorrow night. I know of one other GT500 owner that shows his car there. His name is Albert and his car is a 2008 red with white stripes.

Like I said, if the weather cooperates (so far it's looking pretty good), I'll be heading out tomorrow night. It would be nice to have a couple of GT500s lined up beside each other.

Umm! Nope!

Moose in Calgary? I'm not be getting it.

Maybe cows or horses with the Stampede starting on July 4th. :cowtounge:

I'll give you props for trying though.

Hello
I'm originally from Lethbridge, now living on the west coast.
I try to get back every year to the Lethbridge Street Wheelers weekend, this year July 11-13.
Anybody here going next month?

Thanks!

Hi shelby2go,

Do you have any more details on this event or a web site that I could check out?

I wouldn't mind making a trip down to Lethbridge to check it out.

Thanks,

Forgive me.

You know Canada all looks the same to us.

Actually, Moose hunting has been on my mind for a while. I have a big bare spot on the wall in my cabin that is just begging for a 60" to 65" set of shovels. The moose in Newfouldland, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario just won't cut it. I need to get out to western Canada for a good one.

New topic: Can you direct me to a good source for back bacon?

Check streetwheelers.com

it's a huge weekend event - be there by 5 pm Friday to register for the downtown cruise, or the come as you are cruise down Mayor Magrath Drive.

There's activities Saturday, and the Show and Shine Sunday. They had about 500 cars registered, and prizes.

I hope to make it there, keep in touch.

Hi there, welcome to the unofficial Calgary GT500 club. My brother and I are from the Rock also. I bought my shelby out here, but my brother bought his, thanks to another memeber on here, from a dealer in New Brunswick. I know a few guys around here now with them. They are lots of fun. I don't know if we'll all get them out before the snow flies or not. I've got to wash and wax mine before I put the cover on her for the winter. Anyway, welcome and we'll have to get out sometime. Take care.

I guess no one has posted for a long time in this thread, but I thought I would.

I live in Calgary and am looking to buy a GT500 in the next 6 to 8 months - so hopefully I can join the "club" soon!

If anyone around Alberta or B.C. has any info or recommendations on where to look for and buy Shelbys (favourite dealerships, websites, etc) it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

You can count us in also as part of the Calgary club !! We just got our 2008 GT500 convertible last month. We found our in Saskatoon and just lucky it was the color we wanted and especially be a convertible as this is our summer toy.

I looked everywhere in Western Canada and this was the only convertible at the time. Check the Auto Trader, their are 2 in Alberta and one in BC. Advantage Ford has two 2009 GT500 KR but for way more money than a standard GT500 which I do not believe worth the extra 25-30K.

Feel free to ask any questions and good luck finding what you are looking for.

That's great that you found one. Yeah Advantage Ford (and Metro Ford) here in Calgary have a bunch of KR's - would love one - but totally not worth the extra $20-25K.

I am always checking the Auto Trader as well. I will be checking in to this forum often so thanks for the post.

You can do what I did and purchased from Wood Motors Ford in Fredericton NB at MSRP (or better).

Here's the sales person I dealt with:

Sales Consultant
Wood Motors Ford
880 Prospect Street
Fredericton, NB
Business: 506-452-6611
Fax: 506-452-0369

Great guy to deal with. He made sure my car was shipped directly from Michigan to Calgary hassle free.

Thanks again - this site has tons of info for Mustang lovers.

I'm 99% sure I'm getting a GT500 - but I'm very curious to see what happens in December when the 2011 is announced. The 5.0 engine sounds impressive if it is true. But still not a GT500 of course. :)

Hey - just an FYI - I just bought a fully loaded 2011 GT from Kahn today! Great guy - he responded instantly to all my e-mails and phone calls.

Although I was "99%" sure I was buying a GT500 (like I posted months ago :p) I couldn't find the GT500 hundred I wanted in Black in my price range. But I'm sure I will be happy with my new Black 5.0 - (Might even be one of the first few to show up in Calgary as it is supposed to be here in 2 weeks).

I won't be joining the GT500 club this year - but I won't complain with the car I am getting either...:)

Thanks for the tip about Kahn btw.

Cheers.

Greetings,
Bought a Sterling Grey 500 at Cam Clark, the car is great. I wondering where you guys go for service in the Calgary area? Do you have a dealer you prefer or just the closest SVT dealer?
(this weather sucks I'd rather be driving than typing!)

Thanks in advance

Congrats on your new ride. I too bought at CC. I am curious though, are you not going to do your service at Cam Clark? I am getting ready for my first service and had thought I would go back to the dealership. Do you or have you heard concerns with their service dept?

Thanks boutner,
No I haven't heard anything negative about CC or any other for that matter! I am closer to Metro down town was just curious. I may still take it to CC even if it's farther. My purchase experience there was very good.
(btw nice ride that Kona blue stripe delete would have been my next choice)

Our came from Saskatoon and since we are in the S.E, Advantage Ford which is the only SVT approved dealer in Calgary did the first service one it. Great service but the young boy who did the oil change initially put the wrong grade in it ( 5W20 instead of 5W50 !!) last Fall. The service manager was great and they redid it free of charge this Spring when the car came out of storage. So truly, go to CC if you were happy with the experience and build the relationship which I believe if more important !! Enjoy your Shelby and we might see you at one of the local show this summer !!

I work downtown and take my car to Metro Ford which is also a certified SVT dealer. They are located on 9th Ave SW between 11th and 10th streets.

No issues with their service to date and very convinient for people that work downtown as they offer free drop off and pick up service.

Thanks for the replies,
I am thinking I might stick with CC and build on the good experience.
Having every other friday off gives me some freedom to get up to Airdrie for appointments.

Yes, also hope to see some of you at some shows, maybe Deerfoot Mall on Weds.

Also, I know this is a "GT500" thread, but for those interested in the new GT, here are some pics I took at the dealership when I picked up my new ride:

Add another PW 07' GT500 to the calgary crew. I just drove it back from Vegas. My last ride was an 08' EVO X. It sure is nice to have some low end torque back. Now hopefully the Blower and hood will show up. haha

Just shipped up and took delivery of my GT500 from the southern US with less than 4500mi on it (completely stock); owned and operated by the owner of the dealership and stored for many days in his acreage quonset. Bringing it up to Canada was easy and cost much less than any other used Shelby GT500 I looked at here in Canada.
