Update

The 3rd annual Texas Shelby Get Together will be March 12th, 2011

We will meet once again at the Kerrville High School stadium (corner of Sidney Baker {hwy 16} and Holdsworth dr) at 8:45 am. Eat breakfast first because we dont stop for lunch until about 1pm. We will continue on after lunch and end in Buda Tx at the Cabela's weekly car show/event/get together.

We will be driving a mostly new and even better route this year!

We are staying at the Hampton Inn in Kerrville on Friday night and the Comfort Suites in Buda on Saturday night.

We are expecting a great turn out. We will be running in at least two seperate groups to keep this safe. We will have a "spirited" group and a more easy going group. We are expecting almost every kind of Shelby and Mustang and even a few Ford GT's.

Hope to see you there!

Sean

Track Days kick ass!! I know the staff at Harris Hill. It is a great facility and would be great fun!

I'll be out of town that 1st weekend in April, any other date is good!

They just repaved several sections of the track. It is even better now!

Enjoyed the past two years with each getting bigger and better!!!
How much would it cost to track the cars?
But for sure I'll be there for the scenic route atleast.

Many people have asked for the Texas get together to be bigger and to have a track day. We are looking into that possibility, but renting a track (Harris Hill) is a rather large expense.

The track is a grand cheaper on Friday than Saturday plus the only Saturday they can fit us in is April 16th. If we track on Friday and do the Pretty Texas Scenic Drive (PTSD:hysterical: ) on Saturday then we can end at Cabela's where they have a big gathering every Saturday. We would try to get a good deal from a hotel in Buda or San Marcos.

Fridays lunch would be hamburgers or hotdogs at the track (they have a nice kitchen and outdoor grill we can use!). The dinner Friday would be something similar to Salt Lick or possibly a steak house, something nice but not over the top. Luch on the PTSD would be casual somewhere along the way.

Of course, you could skip the track day if you wanted, or just come out to watch. We do need opinions on the track day so we can start the rental process if needed.

Here are the possible options, let us know what you want:

1) Just a scenic drive - nothing else
2) Scenic drive (Sat) PLUS a private Track day (Fri) at Harris Hill Road in San Marcos
3) We are looking at the last weekend of March or first weekend of April - That work for you?

Thoughts and ideas? Please let us know what you think and what you want. We need to reserve the track before the end of the year if we decide to go that route.

I like option # 2....keep us posted :)

Option 2 works for me. Hope we can get enough people together to make Track Day affordable. If not, the scenic run sounds good.

Where is it going to be?

Harris Hill is in San Marcos. The scenic run will be thru the Hill Country area (think Kerrville) and will be about 200 miles or so. We will stop for lunch, but it will still be a several hour drive.

The track rental for a Friday would be about $5000 including EMS and insurance. If we had 50 cars that would be about $100 each. Not bad for a full and private track day! If we had 25 people it would be $200 each, still not bad for a day at the track (with only 25 cars!)

The only problem is that my brother and I would be on the hook personally for the amount if we agree to do it. Rental prices are going up next year, but they will give us this years price if we put a deposit down (10%) before the end of the year.

This event has been posted on all the Shelby forums and we are gathering info. We are also seeing about including the Ford GT guys in this also. They normally do their own stuff, but I will ask them if we still need people.

Would this $200 or whatever it ends up being, include unlimited runs on the course.

We would have the whole place to ourselves for the whole day (9a-6p). We will probably start with three groups (beginer, intermediate and advanvanced) before lunch and do two groups after lunch. Probably do 15 or 20 minute sessions before lunch and 20 or 25 minutes sessions after lunch. I would guess you could get 75 laps or more if you wanted. My experience is that unless you do this very regularly (every week or two) after about 30-40 laps your pretty worn out, both physically and mentally.

This sounds awesome. I would really love to participate, but my second child is due the first week of April. If it was anyother time I would be in.

For those of you not following the thread on Team Shelby, the date is March 12, 2011. We will be staying at the Hampton Inn Kerrville on Friday night. We will meet up in the Kerrville High School stadium parking lot at 9am. Eat breakfast first because we will not stop for lunch until about 1pm. We will then continue on until we reach Buda and the Cabela's parking lot car show/get together. We will be staying at the Hampton Inn in Buda on Saturday night, which is about 300 feet from Cabela's.

Total distance will be about 250 miles. We will be running two groups this year: a "spirited" group and a "cruiser" group. Hope to meet some of you who have not made it out to the last few events we did.

WOW! We had 36 cars from all over Texas show up and spend the weekend with us. We drove about 280 miles on Saturday and ended up (exhausted) at Cabela's in Buda. The mayor of Buda got us some free eats at Logans Steakhouse for dinner. I will try to post up some pictures tomorrow.

Great time!

Yep, March 12th.

We are looking at doing a fall get together/cruise also. Lats of people have asked, but it is a LOT of work to get everything together. We'll see a little later this summer.
