: Personal Best BUT At What Cost!!!!

Went on my last track day for the season a few weeks ago and knew I would make a new personal best run and have my competition card taken away for the year for lack of safety gear!!

Well with my new Hoosier & rim set up + a few new mods and on my new daily driver tune!!! 1/4 10.201, 140.16 mph, 60' 1.403

The other car was a 2007 GT500 same blower BUT he had a 100-150 shot and ran a 9.448 1/4 car was a trailer queen!!

BUT!! after the run I started to decelerate and car went in to Fail safe Engine Mode:( but now codes??

I knew I was done for the day anyway because I don't have a roll cage, well I came to a stop turned the car off and started her up and no issues and no codes.

Well a week or so later I went for a drive found a good open road dropped her in 3rd and noticed some hesitations in 3rd and 4th on the top end BUT it could be the cold weather F***ing with her ( temp 40's )

So a week later I was on my way to my tuner and did a 3rd pull again and the car went it to fail safe engine mode again:mofo:

Well made it to the tuner and told him my issues and we couldn't find any problems with the car or motor, did a few dyno pulls and check the tune, it was ok and the car put down 708rwhp and made full boost.

(( Any guesses ))

I'm thinking: Bad spark plug or bad coil or the cold weather

I've heard talk of bad or sticking bypass valves but the car made full boost all 3 pulls on the dyno.

I saw a post of a car going into fail safe mode because his heat exchanger pump wasn't working, check my overflow and the water was moving.

I will pull the plugs next week and see, hoping to see a cracked insulater or something simple, I would do it tonight but there is 8 inches of snow on her!!!!!!!

I remember reading about this happening to people on here a couple of years ago, I thought "HMMM, mine has never done that" a week later mine done it once. I was like WTF? Total loss of power, the car falls on its face.

I has never done it again, and I haven't found anything wrong with it!

Highly unlikely (although anything's possible) that one coil pack or one plug would cause such a commotion. No codes at all on the X-Cal?? I'd think it would be tough to rule out the bypass only because if it being intermittent. I assume all air connections are tight and leak-free. Have you ever had an issue with high or hunting idle? I ask because the TPS can go wonky and cause a failsafe not only at idle but cruise and WOT. I've not seen in on a CJ throttle body but have seen it a number of times on L&M.

Also, any chance that your BAP has an intermittent problem? A sudden lean condition at WOT might cause it. I had an alternator go bad and was lucky enough to be on the dyno at the time. But, the a/f went through the roof above 5k because the lack of juice caused the injectors and pumps to work at less than capacity.

Best of luck with it.

No codes at all both times on the X-cal after the fail safe mode BUT I did have a few to lean codes on cold start up with the cold weather so I fatten it up on cold starts.

Would I get a code if the bypass is sticking?

Well then I had 1 injector start leaking and it was the hard one under the blower neck what a mess had too clean the motor then I received 2 TB codes beacuse fuel got on the TB plugs but only happened after the clean up, no TB codes after that.

And when she was on the dyno the A/F was a straight line all the way through 6600 my limit.

I was thinking that the leaking injector may have filed the plug or I over tightened the plugs and cracked 1 when I installed them last time.
I was going to change to a different plug this time NGK TR6 V-power .032 gap, I've been running the XP103 .035 gap

I also got a great deal on 2 new sets of MSD coils for GT500's $100 per set, was going to install 1 set and sell the other but I'll change the plugs first and see.

I also found the best cooling mod for GT500's

No update on this issues yet she go's to the dealership next week, I did find out it will go in to Engine fail safe Mode every time I down shift when slowing down and a new issue happened last night the accelerator stuck, from a stand still I was in first and started to move and the RPM just keep going 6600 and stayed there, taking the car out of gear didn't stop it so I turned the key off and it stopped, started her up and the car drove fine WTF!!

Now I thinking it maybe the computer going out:mofo:

Have you checked your electrical system? Seriously, you may have a crappy alternator and your overall voltage may be whacked. Check that first.

Once you've done that.....

Put your stock tune back in. Pull your battery cables for 15 minutes. Hook it back up. Now put your performance tune back in.

Let it idle for at least 1 minute. Turn on the AC and let it idle another minute.

Turn it off, start it back up and go drive it.

Just some very easy troubleshooting.

If my alternator was going wouldn't I see power spikes, lights dimming, crazy idle? (( I only get to drive her at night anymore and I don't see any of this ))

Car sat for 11 days and she started with no problem, I'm assuming my battery would be crap if that was the issue.

My bumper/bumper warranty ends in Feb so I want the dealer to troubleshoot this time, if I get the car in now stating I'm have an issue they have too fix it even if it takes me past my warranty point.

But BJ, I will try your troubleshooting advice and see if it helps any

I saw nothing when mine crapped out other than the battery went dead. Thought it was the battery. Put a new one in and drove home, only to have it all die require a flatbed.
