: Ford won't cover Defective Wheel
BlakSnake 09-07-2010, 01:56 PM After I bought my 2010 GT500, I had it delivered, and when I got it home I then began my thorough detailing of the car, and found significant paint defects on one of the wheels. It was actually inside the spokes. I bought the car out of state since the area I live is devoid of having anything cool on their lots, plus the up charge they wanted to order one...... When I took the car to the local dealer, they would not warranty to wheel, they said I had to go to the dealer I bought the car from. I contacted Ford direct and after 3 months of going back and forth, long story short, Ford would not cover the defective wheel. They would sell me a new wheel for $1600!. Finally got them to aggree to $900. It is just a real shame that Ford will not stand behind this, especially since it is a higher level car. My recommendation, take the time and go over every detail of the car on the lot, before you sign on the dotted line. Fords position seems to be, once you buy it, your on your own.
Fordx4 09-07-2010, 03:22 PM Why didnt you just take it back to the dealer you bought it from? You could have easily said I want a new wheel or you can take the car back.
bigbudd006 09-07-2010, 03:45 PM 900 for one wheel?
jsarkis 09-07-2010, 03:58 PM You have to either take it to the dealer you bought it from or find one near you that wants your future business. Just like mods.
BlakSnake 09-07-2010, 04:37 PM I bought the car from a dealer in the midwest. I live in the southwest. Its about a 22 hour drive, one way. I wish they were closer, I would have driven back to see them.
BlakSnake 09-07-2010, 04:40 PM 900 for one wheel?
Its crazy! They originally wanted $1600. I got a written quote for it!

that is completely INSANE!!!
cobra0478 09-07-2010, 05:13 PM I would look around for another dealer that is close enough that I can drive to.
I would contact them by phone and explain the problem I am having, maybe you can find some one with a better attitude.
I would also contact the selling dealer and explain everything to them.
Maybe they will replace the wheel, and you can get off with only the cost of shipping.

BlakSnake 09-08-2010, 08:51 AM I contacted the next nearest dealer (about 100 miles away) by phone, and honestly explained the situation. They too suggested dealing with the original dealer. Dead End!
I had multiple contacts with the original dealer. They are the ones that finally offered me the dicsounted price of $900 for the wheel, down from the original $1600.
Always been a Ford Fan, and I love my Shelby, but Ford has really soured me on the warranty support. My new Crew Cab 4x4 is probably not going to be a Ford!
I must be missing something? The 2010 SVT wheels are available for under $200?
Colleton 09-08-2010, 01:11 PM I must be missing something? The 2010 SVT wheels are available for under $200?
Reproductions are available at that price, but they are the wrong color. Where can you get the real thing for under $200?

I have bought over 14 new autos form my local Ford dealer. After my experience with them buying my 07 GT500 I informed them I would never buy another Ford. I have bought two new autos since ( both Toyota ) and am very happy with how they treated me. Ford dealership was run by a bunch of jerks.
bigbudd006 09-08-2010, 03:29 PM i sold fords when i was going to university back in the 70s. when i would see a returning customer i felt like running and hiding because i knew they were not coming back to thank me. with that said i have owned a lot of great cars in my life and none of them have made me feel as good as i do when i get behind the wheel of my GT500. miles of smiles..

Lets seperate fact from fiction. I had a damged wheel that I caused by curbing it very slightly. I bought a new wheel from my Dealer for $900.oo because I wanted it perfect. Lawman and a couple of others here told me to get the wheel fixed and repainted. It came back perfect. Sold both with the car when I got the 2011. You cannot buy a wheel for $200.00, maybe a val:cowfrown:ve stem .LOL Get the wheel painted costs about $250.00 more or less depending on who does it. Don't buy a new wheel, it is a terrific waste of money. Ford like other Manuf. support their Dealer net work first. If they didn't the Dealers would screw ford on all kinds of repairs. This still sounds screwy in any case. Any Dealer should help you on this.

Call Ford corporate HQ.

blazeone 09-09-2010, 06:06 AM The Ford 18" OEM convertible wheels are availabe for $169.00 each from Ford. But the OP needs the 19" version. I would talk to the original dealer on the phone and send them pictures and then if they'll help you have them send you the new wheel and change it out locally and then ship the defective wheel back to them.
NUROTOXN 09-09-2010, 06:25 AM You can buy entire sets of low mileage Shelby GT wheels with tires for under $1000 on ebay!
Just so I understand, the SVT wheels sold by Ford Racing are not the same as the original?

My ref to ebay, was regarding used low mileage original Shelby OEM wheels with tires taken off of GT500s and replaced with other tire/wheel combinations. I'm not certain about the origin of Ford Racing wheels.
BlakSnake 09-09-2010, 02:33 PM I appreciate everyones comments. I could write a book on this, but the short story of events that took place are as follows: I took the car talked to my local dealer. The Service Advisor agreed there was an issue. She talked to the service manager on staff at the time and he agreed. We went in to the office so she could write up the warranty order. When she found out their dealership did not sell the car, is when the trouble started. They denied wanting anything to do with it. They gave me a witten quote for a new wheel $1348.00, plus shipping, and plus mount and balance. They would not even take pictures to talk to the Corp Office. They said it was the original dealers responsibility, not theirs. I talked to a dealer in the adjacent city. Same result. They said I needed to go to original dealer, or to Ford Corp.
I contacted Ford Corp. direct. Ford Corp. at least forced the local dealer to take pictures to send to Corp office. (I have been to the dealers 6 times on this). Behind the scenes, the lady at Corp office told me the Service Manager ( a different service manager thant he origincal) at local dealer had negative comments about covering it. After another 2-3 weeks, Ford Corp. finally came back with decision and said they would not cover it (I think this was impacted by the Service managers comments).
During this whole time, I was in contact with the selling dealership. I sent them pictures. They said they would have to have the car or the wheel there, to make a decision. Finally when all said and done, after 3 months, the selling dealership agreed to a price of $900 to replace the wheel.
This was the PS Rear Wheel: 19x10. I looked into having it repainted. Our Paint shops around here are not renouned for quality. I looked on various websites including E-Bay, but the only one I found at the time was a damaged front 19x9 wheel. I thought long and hard about what to do. I have a brand new car, and hated to have to repaint. I wanted a new wheel to go with my new car. It was not near as much about the money, as it became about the principle of the matter.
In the end, my new wheel arrived yesterday. I am putting this event behind me. I have owned 12 Ford vehicles and I really love my Snake and I love my ole reliable F350 Crew Cab, but I have fallen out of love with Ford.
NUROTOXN 09-09-2010, 02:40 PM I'm glad that all worked out in the end, but is it fair to fall out of love with Ford (global company) when the original dealership did what is right? Did you pay beyond the $900 with or without the original dealership seeing the wheel?
There are many posts in here where individual dealerships didn't do there part and others that have taken the extra measure to make things right. I think it's a matter of dealer integrity. Some see the value in it (long term view) and others do not.
bigbudd006 09-09-2010, 02:43 PM you should forward this thread to ford hq and let them see how many ford owners are reading this. then tell them how really feel!....
No one really answered the question. The SVT wheels offered by Ford Racing. Are those reproductions?
bigbudd006 09-10-2010, 09:03 AM Idk......
Colleton stated reproductions are available under $200. That is why i ask. The price is for 18s not 19s though.
slocum1946 09-18-2010, 12:53 AM ford seems to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...
Bighert3rd 09-21-2010, 11:31 AM That's strange Ford Corp would help you out by working it through a local dealer. Let me tell you my story about dealing with Ford Corp. Back in 2008 I purchased a 2008 Ford Expedition Limited. During one of my military travels using my expidition after I purchased it brand new it broke down on me. The fuel pump went bad on my brand new ride. I was pissed to say the least seeing how my $50,000 SUV left me stranded 600 miles from home after I bought it. So took it to the nearest Ford Dealership and long story short I had to wait a couple days for the new part to come in. Not that big of a deal but I had to fork out $$$ for a hotel and then extra money for food each day, etc. I was not pleased and called Ford Corp. Although I wanted to rip someone's butt up for this I remained calm and explained to them my entire situation. In the end they reimbursed me my hotel expense and gave me perdiem for food each day I was stranded. It took me about 2 months and tons of phone calls, but in the end they hooked me up. That's why I'm surprised they didn't help you more.
Stanley54 09-21-2010, 02:13 PM That's the problem with FORD. They've never quite grasped the concept of customer service like the Germans have. It should have taken you one phone call instead of taking 2 months and tons of them later.
Porsche for instance. My wife and I went on a driving vacation up North with the GT3. I noticed a small break dragging problem on the second day. Called the nearest Porsche dealer which was 200 miles away. Mind you this was after normal shop hours. They told me to drive it to the nearest motel of my choice and to call them back upon arrival. We arrived and called, they paid for the room and our meals. A technician and specialized transport showed up early the following morning with a Carrera S onboard, in case they couldn't repair it on the spot. The technician looked analyzed the rotor and found it to be a warped. They replaced the rotor, did a complete service at no charge and sent us on our way. Now that's customer service!
Ford will never understand or offer anything near this. They have no real pride in their product. They expect the customer to shoulder all the pain and aggravation. Just the opposite with Porsche. They have pride in their product and what they produce. They truly feel failure when something has gone wrong with their product and most certainly don't their cars along left along side the road. I was astounded by the treatment! When we come in for service, it's scheduled on time. They tell you how long the repair will take and it's waiting for you cleaned polished. If it takes more than a day, they will provide you with a Porsche certified used car. They truly believe it's a complete driving experience, not just ownership. Because of this alone, they will always have a customer in both my wife and myself.
Funny thing you should mention attempting to get back the finances you spent. We are still in the process of attempting to get recover the rental car money we were forced to spend for the first week of a FORDS 35 day long clutch replacement.
You should not state German car companies and just leave it at Porsche. I had the worst experiance of my life with BMW. Porsche may be good but BMW was the worst I have ever dealt with. Ford on the other hand has always treated me well, maybe I just have a good dealership here?

bigbudd006 09-21-2010, 03:33 PM i think you have to take into consideration the profit margin that porsche has compared to ford. the mark up that porsche has is huge. that does not mean ford should give bad service after the sale. i sold fords for 2 years in orlando back in the mid 70s. here is the gods truth. once that car crosses the curb they could care less about the customer except to use them as a bird dog for a new customer. i could go on about what i think of american car dealers but i think you get the idea.
I had a new Porsche 1995 993 Midnight Blue, took it in for service to have the 2 year brake fluid change and the service department dripped brake fluid across the front fender. Needless to say it ate through the clear coat and half the paint, I freaked out as the car only had about 2000 miles and had never seen the rain. They offered to repaint the fender but I took it to a couple high end body shops and was told it was best to just leave it alone as the Porsche paint is to hard to blend and would be noticable. Knock on wood Ford has never damaged and of my vehicles in the last 20 years. Also had rude service with Audi as well, I guess the Germans don't like me or something.

Again your right! I've seen it time and time again but they sure would like to convince you otherwise with the amount of advertisement they push out. I'd bet more than a 1/3 of their operating expense budget is advertisement.
