: New radar
ggbiw 03-10-2007, 08:27 AM Just got Escorts new 9500i with gps! This radar is impressive! You mark all the false alarm spots and the gps stores this info so you don't get false alarms. It gives you at least 1 mile warning above 55 and 1/2 mile below 55. I had there solo s2 model before, but this new model warns me FAR sooner. Just thought I would share that with the forum. It is a tad expensive at close to 500.00 when its all said and done. Should pay for itself in avoided infractions pretty quick in a gt500:) . GGBIW

I have owned 3 escort units over the past few and loved their units, but since they have started using so many instant on units I have all but quit worrying about what detector I use. Nearly impossible unless you catch signals off of earlier hit. I paid one in Feb, 64 in a 30. Gripes my butt. First ticket in over 15years and over a million miles. Seen trooper before he hit me, TOO LATE.

Yeah ,the new "POP" radar is pretty tough to beat unless you follow behind another fast driver. Kinda tough when your the only person on the road. I go as fast as the chp will allow, usually 72 in a 65 zone. Easy to drop to below 70 when the radar goes off just in case you get a grumpy chp that is ticket happy. This new 9500i goes off WAY sooner than a solo s2 I own. The gps eliminates the false alarms also. I use the radar to keep myself honest as I do daydream and tend to speed up without really thinking about it. GGBIW:rolleyes:
Arbour88 03-11-2007, 11:26 AM ggbiw,
And this unit also warns of laser radar?
Wouldn't it be too late by the time you've been hit by the laser?
Again, curious as to how this technology can bybass a laser.
Thanks.
bogey1222 03-11-2007, 04:58 PM I have the Radar you need. 5-7 above limit when your driving as a single vehicle. If in a pack, the middle is the safest. If you're in front your sunk. If your're in the back, you maybe the one he goes after. They're too sneaky today. POP radar, and all they new stuff. Damn those troopers, trying to keep the driving public safe. It does warn you on laser ,but like you said Games Over If he's shooting you directly! I have been warned when he's shooting someone in front of me though. Even if he's shooting traffic in the other direction it will go off waking you up. That pop 1&2 instant radar is tough to beat also. It works best when you follow someone thats 200-300 feet ahead giving yourself that extra split second to drop speed. It's nice to know where they target also. GGBIW

I have nothing to do with paint on the bridge:p . Anyhow, this new escort 9500i is the cats meow as far as radar is concerned. You do have a valid point on making adjustments to your driving habits. It is far more sensitive so its good it has the false alarm blocker via gps. Valentine 1 has an entire question answer on radar on its web page. Very impressed with my new escort 9500i though. :) Okay I'll stay off the nitrous can. GGBIW:D
ggbiw 03-15-2007, 09:52 PM Okay, used it for a week now and i'm convinced youv'e gotta have one of these escort 9500i if you do any heavy commute time. Ive marked all the phoney alarms so now when it goes off I know its the man.On the tight stuff I do the speed limit, but when it opens up I can safely do close to 80,slow down to the speed limit when approaching a long turn then back up on the straight. It goes off so far in advance that I can drop to legal speed easy before he can read me. Shaved 15 minutes off my commute. GGBIW
Arbour88 03-16-2007, 07:55 AM ggbiw,
Wow! 15 minutes. That's impressive. Then again, you must have one heck of a commute or should I say not anymore?
Take care, drive hard and keep the detection power 'on'.

Never owned a Valetine 1 so I can't say one is better than the other. I can't stand false alarms. My commute is far more enjoyable without the dozen or so false alarms. That alone would have a lot to think about when purchasing one. This 9500i goes off one half mile BEFORE the speed signs post my speed. That is plenty of time to react if your coming into a radar zone. I'm sure the valentine does the same but doesn't have the ability to blank out the false alarms. Anyhow we all like driving while being informed so to each his own!:)
ggbiw 04-14-2007, 07:16 PM Been saved at least 5 times with this radar. I always get a pack following me home. It goes off BEFORE I can even see him. The sweet part is I never get false alarms anymore. When it goes off ,so does my gas pedal as I KNOW its the MAN! Gonna get a valentine 1 to compare it to. Can't see how the Valentine 1 can beat this one though as the tests are showing they go off a few feet of each other. Will post what I find out with both units side by side.:) GGBIW

That's what I don't want, a false alarm. The 9500i escort ,beltronics rx65 and valentine 1 are all rated very high and I believe your beltronics was purchased by escort. Supposedly there the same company. The 9500i does the same thing without the false alarms. I've seen several tests that shows they go off within a few feet of each other. I'm sure they are all good given how much they cost.I was driving where I eliminated a false alarm, and it went off, backed off, sure enough here came the MAN.Saved again!:) GGBIW:D

Yeah, I had a solo s2 so I could easily move it vehicle to vehicle. This 9500i blows it away,no lie. They all do good but I love the gps false alarm feature.I don't want to say its better than the valentine 1 without really knowing. I sold my s2 on ebay and don't regret it. I'll buy the valentine 1 to see what it does. the 8500 was upgraded with 8500 x50 I believe. The problem with the 9500i is the cost at close to 500.00 with a couple accessories. After you use it you forget about the cost as it really pays for itself in avoiding tickets.:D :D :D GGBIW

I don't see picking up those speed signs as a false alarm. They use radar just like the cops when displaying your speed. If your detector misses those signs, it's probably missing cops. At least in my neck of the woods, the signs and cops both use Ka band.

It doesn't miss them. I blocked the false alarm. A little item spins on the screen showing you blocked it. The nice thing about it is if there is another radar close by it goes off. I've seen them set up close to the speed signs so you get fooled. Not so with this unit. They use KA here also. GGBIW:)

Illegal, you'll be impressed with the escort 9500i. Tests are showing the valentine 1 has no advantage and the 9500i blocks false alarms via gps. you do have to mount it where it can see the gps though so a visor mount wouldn't work. Its a pleasure driving without the annoying false alarms. Kinda expensive but 1 more 6 pointer could get expensive too.;) :)

You are so right. I make my living running up and down the highway. (SALES)
Aprx 1500 miles a week. It has been over 15 yrs since I have had a ticket. I am not implying that I have ever ran the legal side but always close enough to get the strobes flashed or a tongue lashing. but no paper! I do believe that Holidays play large parts in many, but not this one.
I have had two escorts, both were good. Over time they both died. 24 / 7
operation plays havoc on all electronics. I never unplug any utilitys. GPS Radar Detectors. Phones Yes. I may have to try that.

Yeah, I am sure I will do that from time to time. The problem for me was that I park my Shelby in my Workshop / Garage at the other end of my property and invariably I would hop in it and forget the radar detector was in my truck (in the main garage). Now I always have one in my car and the X50 seems every bit as reliable, sans the cool features that the 9500i has. It was expensive to justify two detectors, but the way I drive...cheaper in the end.

Thanks for the link. Still don't want false alarms. Annoying to say the least. Do the others talk to you? Can you block false alarms and still go off when they set up next to a speed informer? You have to compare it feature for feature. I have an enjoyable commute ever since I got the Escort 9500i. Would NEVER go back to the the same false alarms day in and day out. You have to admit they all fit the bill. To each their own. Still can't understand sending one back to buy one that gives false alarms though. Just my opinion. GGBIW;)

2008Shelby, all due respect, if you read how they conducted the test,it states the test vehicle was traveling at 20 mph. The 9500i drops it sensing capabilities to 1/2 mile at speeds below 55mph to limit sensing when driving in town. Above 55mph the sensing capability increases to 1 mile. Ive seen tests showing them to be very close to each other. Anyhow ,at freeway speeds, mine goes off BEFORE I can even see him. GGBIW:)

I've been a member of that forum for years and have conversed with the "testers" and as listed in the test results...
"Each detector was tested with factory default settings, in it's most unfiltered mode"...
What this means is that each detector was put in its most sensitive mode (V1 in "A" mode and 9500i in "Hwy" mode). This eliminated the drop in sensitivity of the 9500i in its "Auto" mode thus equalling the field.
I'm glad you like your 9500i. The majority of testers and those that purchased the 9500i when it first came out came to 2 conclusions...
1. The 9500i with its lockout capability is best for those that travel the same city/high non LEO signal areas, thus allowing you to lock them out.
2. For those that travel rural/interstate and many "new" highways/cities the Valentine 1 is best.
This was the result of questioning many (including myself) that sent their 9500i's back and going with the V1. I don't think the 9500i is a "bad" RD by any means. I like Escort's thinking and trying new things. I just found the V1 works better for me.

Thanks for the clarification. Even so,in 1 of the tests you see the 9500i jump within a few feet of the valetine 1 in ka band which is what the chp usually uses. Realistically, they all do the job, some better than others. Honestly I can't say the escort 9500i is better, but my experience has been very satisfactory. I commute 126 miles 1 way totaling 250 + miles a day. You see it is awesome in pop mode also which is the direction a lot of enforcement is heading. You know, when you get right down to it they are both excellent RD's and the difference in detection is small. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. For me, I enjoy the V1's arrows (which work best on Interstate travel). I did like the ability to run the 9500i in dark mode at night with the concealed display and voice alert.
Here's another link to the forum with which you can read about RD's until your sick...

Mobeydick 09-13-2007, 04:40 PM In Georgia, it's, State Law, a County or Local LE can't issue a ticket for anything under 10MPH over the spped limit. IE 65 in a 55 no Ticket, exceptions School/work zones. They can stop you and give you a warning. Or they can just lie and say you were doing 75 in a 45. The State Patrol However can issue one for 1 MPH over anywhere. Also the ticket is not put on your driving record for anything under 14 PMH over.
Last Labor day I got a ticket from a Female State trooper. She didn't want to work that so no-one else could have any fun either, 75 in a 65. $147.50!!!
Any of you that have been through Atlanta Knows that the speed limit there is just for Kicks & Jiggles!! I live in Southern GA.
