For the first time ever two of the greatest names in Mustang-lore, Carroll Shelby and Jack Roush, will team up to build a one-off special edition Ford Mustang. Called the SR-71, after the Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird, there's a long list of connections that give purpose to the designation. For starters, in this case "SR" will stand for Shelby Roush. Then there's the fact that the SR-71 first took flight the year the Mustang was introduced. Plus, Shelby is a former USAF flight instructor and Roush is a P-51 Mustang pilot. And to tie it all together, the car will be built and auctioned off with proceeds going to support the EAA's (Experimental Aircraft Association) Young Eagles program, which Ford has supported for 15 years running.

Vehicle highlights will include a new 5.0-liter TiVCT V8 engine equipped with a 2.3-liter Whipple Twin Screw Supercharger, a Ford Racing handling pack, Ford Racing exhaust, SVT Track Pack, matte-silver paint with SR-71 details, custom Recaro seats, rear seat delete, a modified Nav screen and instrument cluster and custom badging. Oh, and those racing seats will feature the embroidered signatures of Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby.

The auction is set to take place on Thursday, July 29th at 7:30 PM (Central Time) at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Those wishing to bid can hit the link below to get more info or go here: http://www.airventure.org/gathering

No doubt this will be a valuable collectors item.

I already have the plates for the car. "SR 71" on my 1990 Black T-Bird SC

Had to comment on the SR-71 SC, I'm a die hard SC lover, have 6, I've done 165 in my modified 1989 5-speed SC, probably could have gotten 175 but ran out of road. What's your top speed with the SC? I haven't heard much chatter of top speed here with the GT500. Someone told me a recent show on speed channel had a reflashed GT500 with possibly some mods doing 192 on an airplane strip. I'm getting a couple mods with hopes of doing around 180 with mine, I'm a "low flying airplane" type guy, not particularly 1/4 mile type. The GT500 I have is very stable at 150mph, I'm happy so far. Wonder if anything could be done to improve aero however. You may know the SC body is one of the most aero designs out there, I've compared downhill coasting speeds of GT500 vs SC and the SC is considerably more aero. Probably why it could do 150mph stock with only 215hp. Sooner or later someone is going to come up with an SC with a GT500 engine, don't you think? Can you imagine the SC with a 5.4L - Romeo 605 - M-6007-TVS - Ford Racing Crate Motor, it could probably do 200mph+.

My son was building a 4.6 supercharged with some ware around 650HP for his. He never finished it because other projects took over his time. I think he is getting around 365hp from his with the upgrades he has done to the V6 that was in it. I know he has over 300,000 miles on it and it still runs and feels great.
My SC is stock and I have only had it a little over 150 driving the Alcan. it has about 75,000 miles on her. and is a 1990 Black, auto with no sunroof. I also had a gray 1989 auto that ran circles around the 1990 it seemed. That car had 187,000 when I bought it and it was rumored to have belonged to the CIA. one never knows.
