: Shelby hauled onto tow truck by cops in Brantford

Heard some sad news for a Shelby owner in Brantford today, was told by a colleague at work that during lunchtime on the 403 in Brantford they pulled a Shelby over and then ended up putting it on a tow truck and hauling it away. Speculating that maybe they got caught speeding in their radar traps on the 403 and to be towed had to be more than 50 km/h over the speed limit...

Hope it ends well.....

50 k over they can take your car away ?

Yeah, if you get nabbed 50kph over the limit you can be charged with 'street racing' and have the car towed and licence pulled for a bit. I was on the 403 twice today...maybe the rage inducing slowpokes that hog the fast lane saved my hide.

What I do is take a run up the highway with my detector and then turn around and do a short burst through the gears. The cops saw me do this once and followed me after I slowed down but didn't pull me over. I've had horseshoes so far but I know the day is coming.

I've got to admit those Ontario stunting laws are ridiculous.

How easy is it to drop into 4th gear in the left lane on the highway and punch it to pass a couple of vehicles that are in the right lane and get to 50kph (30mph) over? I mean what does it take...2 maybe 3 seconds to get to that speed? That is exactly what happened to me in Nevada last week while passing 2 morons in the right lane. The officer knew and understood exactly what I did and lowered my recorded speed from 30mph over down to 15mph over. After checking with the courts on monday, 15mph over is a $305 fine in that county, but both the officer and the court attendant said that I should write a letter to the courts explaining the situation and asking them to lower it even more which I did and mailed on Tuesday. It'll be interesting to see what I end up with as far as a fine. Regardless, I know the maximum will be $305.

Yep, the street racing thing is out of hand. I don't advocate it but come on, as you say pulling out dropping a gear and given her a bit to pass someone it's like 50 km/h is there in nano seconds. I find myself watching speed closer with this car then any other ride I've had.
If I want to go WOT I do basically the same as BlackMax, drive along my intended route check for any hidden radar traps then get on the next interchange and go back the same direction I just checked out. So far so good and only when there is virtually no one else around, always worried one day a traveling radar will see me coming from the other direction LOL

I speed by cops in my V.W. Jetta and they don't bat an eye. In the GT500 they stare me down even if I'm under. Mostly because they are jeleous.

Blackmax hit the nail on the head right there those cops are probably jealous and at all cost will pull you over "just because", But it seems that there are people challenging these new rules and saying that they are not constitutional and cross the line with the charter of rights, it is in court right now and have been for a while

I recently barely got out of a $300 ticket cuz the Trooper didn't show up for court. I was cruising in the right hand lane in a 70 mph zone with the cruise control set at 1800 rpm's in 6th gear. That's about 68-69 mph. I always set it there on long trips cuz through playing around with the mpg readout I've found that to get the best gas mileage. Trooper lights up behind me pulls me over and writes me a ticket for 82 in a 70. I could not believe it was happening. Not sure what his deal was that night but maybe he thought better of it and decided not to show for court.

Well I got my response from the Moapa county court and my fine was reduced to $195 from $305.

I paid the fine and will do my best to stay away from that county.

I had this in town for 20 mins and got a call from the cops. Then like a month later got pulled over for no head lights on. When my head lights were on. They then proceeded to give me the Breathalyzer and search illegally. Oh the joys of small town cops.

Cops just love to pull over any vehicle that is something they can't catch in their cruisers. I l haven't gotten pulled over yet.....but as one poster said.....I know its coming. Just sitting here watching Mecum Auto Auctions and a 08 Shelby Cobra just sold for $62,000. It was even stock. That bodes well for us Shelby owners.
