: Like Mick Jagger once said, "I can't get no rear wheel traction"

So I believe my traction control is non-functional. During the pre-purchase test drive I felt the rear get a little loose. The salesman stated that it could not have done that as it has traction control. If I nail the gas in first gear at any rpm, it will go sideways. I've never seen the light come on during this event, nor have I felt any intervention. It has done this both stock and Predator modified. If slam shifted, it will continue well into second, to where I have to let off to maintain direction. Suggestions, comments, prayers?

I can get mine to break loose going in to 3rd, and, if conditions are right, 4th, too.

That is with TC on.

That's part of the fun, if you ask me.

+1....turn the traction control off and see what it does....I'm betting it will fry it.

Mine kicks in rather quickly though the tail will go out a bit with it on. There is a huge difference that I notice with on v off. Also, I get that little traction control light coming on rather frequently :)

I can tell you from my experience that if you dump the clutch in first gear you will start sliding and change lanes without wanting to.

So how do you know if it's working? I never see the light come on and never feel any type of "control". Any suggestions on how to confirm if it's functioning?

So now it gets more complex. A very good friend of mine is a shop foreman at a Ford dealership. I took it to him so he could use Ford's laptop/interface to monitor what the TC is doing. First run: Car has been sitting about an hour after driving for twenty minutes, nail the gas at about 1500 rpm, rear tires brake completely loose, slam shift second, starts to get sideways. Second run:TC turned off by me, about 1500 rpm in first, nail the gas, car hooks like glue, accelerates so hard makes me nauseas (I get sea sick drinking a glass of water!), takes off like a sling shot. Third run: TC on, 1500 rpm, nail the gas, car hooks like an F14 cat shot again.?????? We checked the data and found that on the first run, the one with no traction, the TC engaged and the throttle was closed from a 100% request (pedal position) to a 34% actual throttle opening. When it engaged, no bog was felt, no lights came on, and the wheels still spun like crazy. Now I'm more confused than ever. I could not tell a difference between the TC on and off. Also, it occurred to me that I had never tried this "test" before with the tires fully warmed up. The only other vehicle I've ever felt that sick in on launch was a GMC Syclone years ago. Any ideas/comments? Hopefully positive ideas/comments.

With mine, if the TC is off the rear end wants to fish tail. With it on the car stays straight. I'm to afraid to take my eyes off the road to look at any lights on the dash. Could your tire temperture been significantly different during the runs? The factory tires seem to not be very grippy when cold.

I now know what it feels like when TC kicks in. At the track on Friday, during my burnout, and in first gear during my run, it shut down HARD, and the light came on. Based on the fact I can still light up the tires in first and into second, I'm guessing the TC does not kick in until certain criteria are met AND exceed a certain time limit (i.e. so many continuous seconds of wheel spin).
