The KR's 5.4-liter V-8 Gets the Royal Treatment
Just like its namesake, the 2008 'King of the Road' packs a walloping dose of Ford performance power under its massive composite hood scoops. The Ford SVT-engineered 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 is treated to a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack that boosts horsepower to an estimated 540 and torque to 510 ft.-lbs., thanks to revised ignition and throttle calibration and a cold air intake system that replaces the stock unit.

Calibration modifications include advancing the ignition timing as well as re-mapping of the electronic throttle settings to provide quicker throttle response for better off-line and mid-range acceleration. Increased throttle response will be met with a sharper roar from the Ford Racing-inspired exhaust system.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, upgraded from the standard GT500's 3.31:1. Gear selection is courtesy of an all-new Ford Racing short-throw shifter making its debut on the KR. Topped with a white ball, the new shifter is 25 percent shorter than the unit on the GT500 providing for crisper, sharper shifts.

Ford SVT, Ford Racing and Team Shelby worked together to develop the KR's suspension tuning. Based on initial work by Ford Racing and the team at Shelby, often at Shelby's own facility on the grounds of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Ford SVT chassis engineers will apply fine tuning techniques to prepare it for the streets.

"The production Shelby GT500 was maximized to deliver the perfect balance between ride and handling," said Jamal Hameedi, chief nameplate engineer, Ford SVT. "In that same ride versus handling continuum, the KR will lean heavier towards all-out handling while still making it drivable on the street."

Chassis engineers worked closely with the engine department in a holistic approach to the development of the KR, tuning the suspension to best optimize the engine enhancements.

"We aren't fixing our attention on one or two attributes, but working on the vehicle as a whole," stated Gary Patterson, vice president of operations for Shelby Automobiles. "The throttle response, power delivery, exhaust note, and handling should all gel together to deliver a total driving experience."

The GT500KR will feature unique spring rates, dampers, stabilizer bars, and strut tower brace, all designed specifically for the KR, to deliver the precision handling package.

Also, starting off by giving everyone the finger isn't a good way to introduce yourself.

Good luck trying to get $75K for a slightly used KR.

Yeah... but you can get them NEW for $10k less no problem. There's many rotting on dealer lots that are being given away.

Sorry you overpaid... but we're just trying to show you the current real market value.

Good luck.

You might have a better chance of getting $75k in a few years when the economy swings around, and the current inventory of KR's on dealer lots are gone.

I agree with the above.

But more importantly ... these cars are worth what ever a buyer wants to pay for it.

I had two 2008 KR's available for sale .. brand new in the showroom floors .... the car I wanted was sold before I could finalize the deal. This car sold for invoice + .... dealer was estatic as he should be.

The other Torch red up north should sell today for $52000.

Point is there is nothing wrong with this guy selling his car for that price ... but in this forum the odds of it selling are slim to none.
People on these type of forums are very astute and knowledgable buyers.

I would try to offer this car in Europe ... I think you would have a greater responce.

Collectible cars, if you can call GT500's that, gain value over DECADES not years. You wouldn't see any 'profit' of your purchase for at least 15 years so to buy a car as an investment is.....inherently....dumb. Unless you are a goofball like me and just have garage space to fill :) hahahahaha.

There is one on the showroom floor in Huntersville NC. New.. I know its been there for over a year now. Well, it used to be inside with a rope arround it to keep hands off. I guess the dealer needed the floor space becasue its since been moved outside (but under a roof).

Nice, I know how it feels when you overpaid something. But 3 years ago it was a total different story.

Thats a concern most of our buyers have .... some of these cars are being moved outside which is a sin.

People esp from the forums want this car to be a inside car .. never to see the elements ... not a good move by the dealer

I was offered a 08 40th KR for $52,900 out the door with tax, car had 4 miles! They also had a 08 Super Snake for $44,000 with 800.

I can't see paying $25-$45 more on a GT500 for a hood and a tune, I bought an 08 GT500 with 31 miles and $6000 in fordracing upgrades off the show room floor for $35,400 in FEB, for about $5000 I could make it a KR BUT a stock KR in this state would have it's ass handed to it!! But to keep any value the car would have to be kept stock SLOW stock and I hope that day never comes for me like the old timers that buy a new Z06 vett and drive 10 miles below the speed limit:mofo:

$52,900 including the sales tax would be in the high 40's for just the car where I live. The '08s are now 3 year old cars and it is dump out time or eat them.

I sold a Torch Red KR brand new for $52000 +++. Granted its a 3 year old car but I think the KR will hold its value better than a 2008 GT500. I think a used KR would be worth somewhere in the mid to high 40's so for a few thousand more for brand new with a new warranty start date on the day you bought is worth it. That and alot of car guys just dont want to buy a used vehilce. They want to be the first and only owner.

We still have our last KR in stock. Black on Black with 44 miles on it. #137. Our market has slowed dramatically in California. Would sell for $59900 plus fees. Brand new. We are a high performance dealer, but even the standard GT's are moving slow. With the new 2011's coming out with all the horses, we are forced to move the KR's at a loss. They will maintain value when the new ones are all gone as someone said.

Yeah, I hate to burst your bubble, but I'm looking for GT500 in the DFW area right now and there are several new ones for $45-52K out there with the 540hp, etc. Used are going for mid thirties.

sjpony: You do know they're talking about the 08-09 GT500KR, not the standard GT500, right? If you know where there are new GT500KRs for 45-52K please point me at them.

Yes, I'm just saying that you can get a newer GT500 with the same HP for less. I don't know what all a KR has on it that warrants the extra $20-25K, but I'm sure one could get a stock 2010 GT500 and make it just as fast and handle as well.

Understood, but with the KR it isn't about performance. It's about rarity and being a pre-titled Shelby. It comes with a CSM number, which none of the other GT500s do except the Super Snakes, and those are post-title. In short, it's the collector version of the GT500, and is worth more. How much more is debatable though.

The stock 2010 is approximately at the performance level of the 08-09 KR. Lots of modded GT500s are beyond it.
