yenrod;
I am in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and just got back from my sisters in Austin(for Thanksgiving and drove my GT500 down there and back-now have over 1000 miles on it in less than 2 weeks). I am originally from Fredericksburg, Texas(in the hill country). Where are you in Central Texas?

Good to hear it. I did the same down to Houston. I just hit 1500 miles! I am in the Austin area (Pflugerville). Do you know anyone in DFW with a GT500? I have been trying to meet up with some of the local forum web sites, not too much luck thus far.

I don't know of anyone other than myself with a GT500. I haven't even seen one up here yet on the street. The only others I've seen have been in dealers, but I know those were sold.

Pretty much the same deal here. I did see one a few weeks ago when I was heading out of town 290 East, but I haven't seen it since.

Hey ya'll

I'm in Louisiana but I attend meets in Texas about twice a year. The SVT club in the central Texas area is pretty active. The next track event is March 31 @ TWS in College Station. I will be there by the grace of God to see what these Shelbys are like out on the track! There are usually a pile of Cobras and a few Cobra R's and a couple of Ford GTs. It would be really nice to have a few other Shelbys there so I wouldn't have to deal with all the attention by my self. :-).

Dell Hughes is the coordinator for the event. I would really love it to see you both. I talked to Dell a couple of weeks ago and he said the SVTOA website should have info in the next few weeks. If you've never been on a road course you haven't really experienced a Shelby! That's what they were made for! It should be awesome! I can't wait!

The SVT Cobra Mustang Club (SCMC) and the SVTOA websites are good sources of what's happening and where in your area. Both clubs have been outstanding folks and great to fellowship with and I'm sure they would be delighted to have a few Shelby GT500's join the fun!

Hey CC,
I have already joined the SVT club in the Dallas area. I will check out the site again to verify the meet. I would really like to attend. I really want to take mine to Texas Motor Speedway and let her out there.

Hey guys...just got mine tonight!! I am so excited. I am a long time mustang man, this is actually my 4th Cobra (94, 99, 03 and now this). I am in Georgetown (just north of Austin). Hope to run in to some of you!

Congrats, TXCobra. I drove mine down to Austin on Thanksgiving Day to see my sisters and mother. The drive was the most enjoyable and least stressful that it has ever been. The car drives like a dream. I am up in Argyle, which is 26 miles north of Ft. Worth.

TxCobra, what color do you have? I am sure to run into you sooner or later as I am in Pflugerville. Unfortunately I usually only get to take it out on the weekends. Did you get it from one of the local dealers? Congratulations! It's hard to get that grin off of your face when simply thinking about the car.

I finally saw another Gt500 up here on Saturday. It was blue with white stripes. It was parked at Costco and 3-4 people were around it talking to the owner. I drove up in mine(Alloy no stripes over top) and no one even gave me a second look. I really like the stealth look.

I'm with you on that. My Alloy 'vert gets very little attention. Just the way I like it.

yenrod
12-05-2006, 11:27 AM
Well I guess I didn't get enough attention from Mamma when I was a kid because the red with white stripes was what the doctor ordered. I occassionally get a few glances! Went to the auto show in Austin (still very small) this past weekend and they had red/white coupe on the rotating stage. It was surrounded by people. It some how made me feel even more proud to own the same car, I evev caught myself taking pictures!?

yenrod;
Don't get me wrong, yours is great. I originally ordered the White/w blue stripes. When everyone started having trouble with the stripes, I changed my mind hoping my car would come sooner. My wife wasn't crazy about the stripes and the attention and I really liked the Alloy color because of the great shine you can get with it.

yenrod
12-05-2006, 05:46 PM
I was only kidding. I don't think there is a color that I don't like on the Shelby. I may be a little partial to some, but that's it. Dsabldvt, did you put an aftermarket exhaust on yet? Are you planning on adding a CAI? I want to start modding, but I am still hesitant, awaiting more products/options to come out. For the record the color combo I have contradicts everything about me and my personality? I am usually ultra flying under the radar, but I love it.

dsabldvt
12-05-2006, 06:23 PM
I have added a Tune from Justin at VMP tuning. I think it gave me about 30 to 40 h/p. I have been waiting for his CAI but it seems he is having problems with it. I will definitely get a CAI from somewhere and then get a retune. I want to put on a better upper control arm(from Steeda) to help with the wheel hop. I also want to get a hood strut kit and an oil separator for the supercharger. I'm not sure about the exhaust yet. I like the way it sounds now and it doesn't add that much to performance.

I got the vista blue convertible. I have the white GT500 stripes, but I must admit, I have been thinking about adding the coupe stripes to it. Called the dealer today and they told me $1000 for the stripes from Ford and $400 to put them on!?!?! At $1400 I won't be adding stripes, but I am still looking for a cost effective solution. I am selling my babied, stock '03 White convertible with ~10K original miles...if anyone knows of any interest.

Thanks guys, looking forward to catching up with all of you.

Cool, that is where I got mine. There are a couple that I know of so far; the austinsvt.com folks head up to the HomeDepot @ IH35 and 45, they are not too responsive on the website and it is extremely lonely in the GT500 thread. There are some nice people I have met and talked with though. There is a group centraltexasstangs that I met up with one time. They meet at the old Randall's @ Parmer between IH35 and MOPAC. Pretty nice group of people as well. I met one guy with a Rousch stage 3, and there were also some vettes there. A lot of these groups seem to merge together. There are probably others. Let me know if you plan on hitting a particular spot.

What's a GT450H ?

The GT450H is a less than reputable dealer that has body kitted a black GT and put some cheap gold stripes opn and a really goofy rear spoiler and put side stripes on it saying GT450H.

I think it's supposed be a knockoff of the GT500H Hertz, but not even close.

They make a regular GT and stripe it with GT300 stripes and they sell them as "Boss Hoss".

And then also sell a Foose knockoff. It's been lowered, some really God aweful wheels that actually stick out past the rear fenders and a two tone paint and billet grill with an axle back. They call them a Regency R and are stickering for GT500 coupes are going for.

It was hilarious the first time I pulled up to go to the parts department at this local dealership. When I came out; there were about 3 customers around my car and I heard a salesman telling one of them, it's just a car Shelby puts his name on, it's nothing special, just some stripes and different wheels. LOL I couldn't help myself, I had to tell everyone standing there that the gentleman was very misinformed, and the story about it and where they can find one. I told them about the SGT, CS6 and CS8, all of them said thanks, 2 couples left right then to go look on the Ford Site and Shelby site. The salesman was a little more than pissed, I followed him in and as he was ripping me to his other salesman I walked up and told him that he might want to try actually knowing what he was selling. He started to say something when someone walked out of a cubicle and asked him in to see him. He then walked up and shook my hand and said he was the general mgr and that he was about to educate him what a GT500 was and what Shelby is to Ford and he was sorry. He said his dealership just can't seem to get any GT500s, that they sold one used one on a special deal. I told him I knew, I met the lady that bought a used coupe for $55K and was told they did not make a GT500 in a convertable. When I showed her mine, she was so mad she was shaking. And that she won't be doing business with them any more. He looked stunned, and asked where did she get that info, I told him from her salesman. He wasn't happy.

Can't believe what some dealerships will do.

Great story but the GM should be sure his salesmen know the product or hire some who will take the time to learn. He can blame himself for that .IMO

Heck of a story. In trying to find a decent deal, I ran into sales guys like that in almost every dealership. There seems to be some sort of car salesman law that they are not allowed to say "I don't know." If they don't know the answer, they just make up some sort of outlandish lie. I can't tell you how many times I was told there were only 100, 500 or 1,000 GT500s made. :mad:

One day at my local dealership I overheard a salesman tell a customer that the Mustang GT on the floor had independent suspension. Since they all know me down there after the customer left I took him aside and explained to him the fact that it has a straight "live axle" not an independent rear. That he could get the dealership in trouble for misrepresenting the product.
He was cool and thanked me for explaining it to him privately.

Hi all, just got my GT500 on 2-4-09. Been wanting one for over 2 years, but refused to pay the inflated prices. Found mine on E-Bay in Houston for $5000.00 below msrp for a 2009. My wife found it while I was in Canada and bought it for me. When I got home it was sitting in the garage. What a wife, I got to make the payments, but she did the down payment and arranged financing. Got to love em both. 2009 Vista Blue w/stripes. Crosby, Tx. Just east of Houston. :)

I love dealerships...lol. I took a buddy of mine car shopping one day. I was driving a Harley F-250 6.0L Diesel. I step out of the truck at a Nissan dealership, and the salesman asks, "Ready to trade that in on a real truck? We have the most powerful V-8 in our class with the most towing capacity." I just started laughing, and asked him if he wanted to hook a chain to one of his tinker toys and see who pulls who? His GM overheard the conversation, apologized to me, and proceeded to scold the guy for not knowing anything about the competition. I sat there on my tailgate and laughed as my buddy looked around.

Mid America is in Tulsa in June. There will be over 700 Mustangs there from all over the world. It is the largest Ford powered get together on the planet.

We will be doing another "hill country cruise" this spring. Probably in March.

Shelby American is doing a 45th celebration in North Texas in October. That should be very special.

TaraFirma, you should try to make one of the Shelby sponsered events. They are a BLAST!!! I was in Vegas at the bash last month and spent two days driving/riding in every kind of Shelby you can think of. Had people offering their keys to me every time I turned around (too many to actually drive them all!). Spent the weekend on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway road course.

I have a friend from TeamShelby.com w/a GT500 in Iraq right now. SHE is a mechanic over there.

Let us know when you get back. Would love to hook up sometime. Stay safe and take care!

Let us know when you get back. Would love to hook up sometime. Stay safe and take care!I'll be back in mid April. We want to make it to as many events as possible. If they are local, I'll take my SC 88GT also. I trip to somplace with a beach and blue water is a must for the wife though. She deserves that after me being here for a year. Really looking foward to meeting eveyone at the events.

None for N TX, but my boss got a 2011 for 1500 over sticker with extended warranty for free. Guess that's kinda like sticker price and paying for the warranty.

yenrod;

On the Team Shelby Forum...there an "Events" sub forum and in that location there is listed "Team Shelby Regional Groups"...in there is a "West South Central" group that includes folks from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma" . Lots of individual clubs listed and good info. Really nice people.

Yes, yes, yes. I am the Team Shelby (TS) regional director for those four states. We are currently in the process of rolling out the new TS regional set up. We have state directors for Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. We are still looking for someone from Louisiana. Then we will look for point of contacts for each of the larger cities. This is all to help organize events and to increase participation from Shelby owners all across the United States. I currently hace a POC for Houston, San Antonio and West Texas, but need someone for Dallas, Austin and North East Texas.

We need people to be our "foot soldiers" so to speak and to recruit and spread the word to as many unconnected Shelby owners as we can. Also, if you know of an event coming up, please post it or email me about it so I can spread the word to as many people as possible.

For those of you in or around San Antonio you can check out the San Antonio Shelby Club at www.sasclub.webs.com - sign up and you will get a couple emails a month about upcoming events and get togethers.

Hey Sean...my userid on the Shelby forum is blackonblack...I remember you from the last Hill Country drive in April. Had a brief conversation with Warren the other day on the progress (or lack of) on his 350....

How about it? Anyone in the area? I have not had too much luck with contacting/getting together with any of the local groups/websites.

I'm in Austin but no GT500 :(
