: Dang I am rusty
rlhay2 11-08-2009, 09:32 PM It's been ages since I have taken a manual transmission car down the 1/4 mile, and it showed.
Made two attempts to do a burnout with the TCS on...
Once I pulled my head out I managed:
.204 R/T
1.77 60 ft
4.88 330 ft
7.37 1/8 @ 97.48
11.28 1/4 @ 125
This was with M&H 325/40-18 @ 19 psi on widened stock wheels.
Leaving at 4000 rpm, 1/2 tank of 93
A 10.9x is possible if the driver can get his act together.
07Ebony 11-08-2009, 09:42 PM Very nice numbers

WA 2 FST 12-03-2009, 01:58 PM Excellent times!
rlhay2 12-13-2009, 04:47 PM That 10 second slip eludes me again.
Ended the day with a 11.10 @127.
Would have liked to have earned that 10 second 93 octane run but it won't happen this year.
Still learning this car and the road race suspension is not helping.
But I still think it can be done.....
We'll try again in 2010.

Nice job. What was the weather and what was your short time?
And, are you racing on 20's?

kent1 12-13-2009, 08:56 PM Nice times indeed. That is moving. Congratulations!!
rlhay2 12-14-2009, 05:46 AM Nice job. What was the weather and what was your short time?
It was ~55 degrees, 77% humidity (it rained the prior day and the heavy fog this morning also did not help) and 29.96 barometer reading.
I am using the M&H Racemasters 325/40-18 on widened stock wheels (18x11.0).
Best 60' to date has been a 1.72. I know the car can do a low 1.6, but the driver (me) needs to get past visions of twisted driveshafts.
The worst part: I would have had the 10-second run.
But I smacked the rev limiter in 3rd gear! DOH!
The sun sets at the end of the track at Dallas Raceway.
Thus near the end of the day we are driving into the sun and I could not see the dash and did not think to put on my sunglasses which were tucked up in the sun visor!!
I ran an 11.15 @ 123 on the run where I hit the rev limiter.
It's like they say, practice, practice, practice.....

I feel your pain. Best was and 11.11 on 125 and a 1.66 short time. 305/35/18 Mickeys. Cold day, so it was running strong. But, the short Mickeys are hard as stone on the sidewalls. Tough to launch.
Going with 345/50/15 M&H next season. Can't find anyone that's done that on a lowered car yet, so I'm a little concerned about clearance. I know the sway needs to be relocated, but it's the fender rolling the wife will have no sense of humor over. The 28" tire isn't a problem on the stock ride height, but I have FRPP lowering springs. We'll see. I'm more concerned about eating a gearset or an axle than a driveshaft these days. I have a 1 pc aluminum, too. I devoured the 2 pc a couple a years ago. Ooops.
The taller tire should solve my gear problem. I'm banging the limiter at the end on a great pass. 4th gear, 6600rpms. Not what you'd call "good for it".
the 28's will bring me down to 6200 or so, a much happier time with the limiter.
Just makes your rear pucker right up when you miss a gear and beat it against the limiter in 2nd or 3rd doesn't it?:banana_hitit:

Those tires should only be 1/4" taller than what I am running on my Eibach lowered car. Tire height should not be an issue.
but it's the fender rolling the wife will have no sense of humor over.
Our fenders are rolled from the factory. Unless you are planning to stretch the metal to make them wider. The 325s fit with a little room to spare. 345s will be tight but if you can do it take pics!!
4th gear, 6600rpms.
Yikes! I leave mine at 6250

Certainly does! The worst part is knowing what that .1 second mistake does to an ET. I sometimes wish these cars did not pull so strong up top!
Interesting. I've been looking around for another GT500 thats running close to the same mods as mine to compare automatic to the 6 speed. I ran 11.12 @ 125 until they said no more because of not having a roll cage. I have stock gears though and I see you're running 3.73s. I dont have the lower pulley. Not sure how much difference that makes. The converter is a 2000 stall. I'll see what the gear change does next spring and find another strip that'll let me run without the cage.

Byron Dragway, in Byron IL will let you go 9's without a cage. They dont give a shit about anything.

Widening. Yeah...it'll be interesting to say the least!!
And my detail guys thought I left a lot of rubber in the wells THIS season :)

I had a faster ET and higher MPH, that red car just cut a better light...much better.

Sounded like someone hit the rev limiter, was that you or the Vette? And did did cut the light pretty well.

That was me. I tend to kiss the limiter right as I take the car out of gear to hit the next gear. I don't "speed shift" but I try to time it so that I am only on the clutch going into the next gear.
The Vette redlighted. :thinkerg:
Next time I will:domotwak:that vette!
A little less pressure in the rear tires, slightly stiffer setting on the right rear damper, and a little less stiff on the fronts!
10.9Xs are coming.
Once that is accomplished, then we put in some race gas, bump the timing and see what she'll really do!
YouGotBit 12-19-2009, 06:42 PM lol i am just trying to run a low 12 maybe a high 11 from my crappy 13.00 run with my few mods i wint 13.00 at 119mph on stock tire rolling out at like 2000 rpm's could not launch much harder cause the wheel hop would not allow me to get into second gear so now i ordered some upper an lower control arms an mickey thompons drag radial an 373 gears how are you guys launching its my first stick car so when you guys say your leaving at 4000 are you holding it at 4000 an droping or side stepping the clutch or rolling out at 4000 ??? cause i hold it to like 2000 an roll out

Completely dependent upon track conditions, but....
3,000-3,500
Quickly and smoothly release the clutch while smoothly rolling on the throttle.
Work on that smooth release and pressing the gas.
Don't sidestep. You'll always spin. If you don't spin, you'll break something.

TRUE
I have busted 1 diff and 1 axle. about a year apart from each other.
I dump the clutch @ 3500 on M/T 305/45-18 et streets @ 15psi
I am on my 3rd uca and 2nd uca mount.
He is correct you will break stuff.
VNMOUS1 12-27-2009, 08:13 AM Damn, you're rough on your toys. ;)
I have a feeling that I'm about to leave some stuff at the head of the track. Swapping to M&H DRs in 325/50/15 this coming season. Hook-o-rama.

In theory, the 15" radial/slick should be more gentle on parts.
The theory being the load is applied linearly instead of suddenly...
In theory...

I'll let you know how all 3 go.
