I have tried to keep very positive on the Shelby's & have hung with Ford through thick and thin but now it appears the game is about to change.

This may make people re-think the real truth to what Ford is telling us why are Shelby's are on hold.

My 2nd Shelby a Convertible was built in August about the time it was promised for delivery. Pretty much everything FORD said about why it was being delayed was nothing more than a snow job.

I have contacted Ford as high up the chain as you can go. Its only been a few days so will give them a few more. If no response then the lid will be blown off the SHELBY quality control BS! Come monday or tuesday of next week if Ford does not give me a resolution the shit really will hit the fan big time. Stay Tuned! Lets just say FORD needs to buy my car back!

Do they have a lemon law where you live?

Why all the suspense. Let us know what the issues are. I am dying to know. Have had some minor issues with mine but nothing of the magnitude you seem to be having. We all feel your frustration but you have alot of things going on that are fueling the moment. Keep a cool head and keep us informed. We are there for you in what ever way we can.;)

I expect it.... and what I mean by that is... I have purchased my share of new vehicles and many have been a complete new body style and guess what. I became the test dummy. The first was a 1987 GT mustang that year they changed the whole car... well I had about 6 problems with it 2 major and the rest just a pain in the ass. Ford fixed it.. and the next year my buddy bought one just like me and he had none of my problems ....why because once Ford (or any company) saw the problems they went back to the design engineers and got it fixed. No car company can afford to put out junk it cost them 3 times to fix it than to do it right. So even though I have had not problems I only have 810 miles on mine so it is way to soon. Once reason why putting mods on it is on the back burner would like to make sure of the bugs. Even though the Shelby is just a mustang with different hardware and dash, it is enough different to have bugs. All the R&D and beating it on the track just will not show up everything. So I expect the first one could have some problems, but the next year model or model after that if there is one will be fine. That doesn't help us that have one but owning a small piece of history I can live with some issues.... if to many than the Z06 might be here sooner than I though :) (Just kidding)

What are the issues? First run model yrs. ususally have a few bugs to work out, but ususally nothing drastic.

Why all the secrecy? Are you just whining about a bunch of small stuff or a real issue?

I thought FORD would work with me on this one but appears they just want to start painting on my $ 55k + Shelby.

Here is the scoop.

My car was built way back in August knowone seemed to know what happened to car once built. FORD simply did not want to discuss. After waiting and waiting and waiting I finally contacted Alan Mullaly's office along with Mark Fields office. I did receive a response from both. Two emails from Mr Mullaly himself then contact from his Secretary.

I also had contact with the Field Operations Distribution manager FLM and the GT500 Marketing Coordinator. Whose names I will not mention at this point. Both these people were great to work with until the car came in and I spotted the problems.

When car was picked up it was very very dirty with 21 miles on it. There was mud stuck in wheel houses etc. A couple days after getting car home I started to clean it up.

I found the entire car was covered in little black spots the same as our New White Ford 500 has that was never taken care of.

Upon closer inspection I found the fit and finish of car to not be of a too high quality. I also found that the drivers side 1/4 had paint work on it with a masking tape line running down center of 1/4 panel. The little black spots that were all over car are now underneath clear on drivers 1/4. This pretty much proves the little black spots were prior to car leaving factory and nothing to do with the Shipment.

There are also dents that appear to be from the manufacturing process in tops of both rear 1/4s.

The hood also appears to have been refinished and the hinge to hood bolts have been messed with because the paint on bolts is all chipped off. The right front fender also appears to have been messed with. Where corner of fender meets the "A" pilar it appears to have overspray. The pass door front to fender fits very poorly with curves not the same. The back of pass door does not match the 1/4 properly.

There is a visible masking tape line on left 1/4 extension.
There is overspray inside of drivers door jamb from the repaint

The windshield says Eng Hold PAINT

Now Ford wants to put more patches in paint that has already been done?

I had planned on never driving car in rain and spent over 20 hrs detailing the undercarriage. Now they want me to drive it in rain to dealer? So they can repaint it? I have seen the work that comes from dealer on paint work and it looks like SHIT>

I paid for a NEW car and thats what I want.

Not a good day here. Looks like its time to contact my attorney.

What really pisses me off is Ford Blatently lied about why it was being held.

First it was stripes then the clutch then just quality assurance hold then nothing. They are trying to blame the problems on the stripe folks.

To anyone who has been waiting a long time for car and it was built a long time ago. Ford is not giving you the straight scoop.

I suppose FORD will again stall as they want me to bring car back in for more pictures. Sure, be happy to when its not raining. They agreed to repaint left 1/4 panel for 2nd time but want more pics of right side. You would think they would send a rep over to inspect this car vs the email pics thing? You would think my dealer after just buying 3 new cars in past year could make the trip over?

I have a 3rd Shelby on order but.................

Honestly- How many of you folks would like if this was the car YOU ordered?
The biggie is the masking tape mark going down middle of 1/4. How many people are going to believe these are factory screw ups 20yrs from now?

Yeah, I would be pissed about all that. I would probably drive it thru my dealer's storefront window.

BTW...it sounds like you expect these to be worth a good buck someday down the line. Do you really think they will appreciate that much seeing shelby did nothing more than apply his name to it?? I really think the car would be identical to as it is now regardless if Shelby was involved or not.

Not trying to be a jerk....I am truely curious as to whether there will be some value in these vehicles 20-30 yrs. down the road.

GT500Convert...I wouldn't let this go on any longer. I personally would already have had my attorney working this issue...your problems are to numerous to be solved by ANY dealership. It sounds like FORD should buy-back your car and place an expedited order for you to receive a REAL NEW car ASAP!! I was way pissed when my cars front fascia got scratched by the transport carrier, but that was pale in comparison to your cars issues. Dont wait too long...once they receive correspondence with your attorney's letterhead hopefully they'll know you mean business...GOOD LUCK.

1268...There are certainly some good investments out there...nobody knows if an 07 GT500 will make the grade and hopefully not too many folks bought them for that purpose. 20-30 years is a long time...probably longer than I've got. Perhaps history will repeat itself though...there are some very expensive Mustangs out there that were produced after 1967 that bear the Shelby name and have become quite collectible, even though Carroll Shelby had little to do with their conception...

Trying to be patient but its been nearly a week since I first reported problems. I think my only recourse at this time is to contact my attorney.

Isn't there some type of disclosure law where Ford would have to disclose any prior damage or repairs? Makes you wonder how often they get away with it?

The reason I was not saying what the problems were I was waiting for some type of return call or email from people at FORD. When they ignored my calls and emails for nearly a week I thought I would then say something.

I can certainly see why you are mad.I have been waiting to see what the problems are. That car should have never left the factory like that.As far as repairs go at the factory, there isn't too many cars that are perfect 1st time around. There are always some kind of repair but once it is done you are not suppose to even know it was done just like your 1st car.My Shelby had repairs and I watched them fix it.You can't even tell.I for one would like to apologize.Your case is a rarity but there is no excuse none the less.........................07................... ..............

GT500 - I echo 07 Shelby's comments. When us consumers think of a new car - our vision is this pristine, new car shining from all corners and perfect in every detail. Truth of the matter is that these cars are not hand built and hence don't get the attention that we probably would love to see. Buying anything that was built off an assembly line is going to have variation - car, sofa, tv etc... The true measure of quality is how the plant protects these 'deficiencies' from leaving the plant. It's a human operation and hence, some things do slip through the cracks. I can go into any dealership and always find flaws. The question is would most consumers every see or notice some of these flaws - probably not. My advice would be to work with your dealership and Ford Customer Relations to see what they can do to help address the issues of concern. I know EXACTLY what your talking about with the re-painting as I've experienced something similar. After spending a wack of cash on a new car, the last thing you want is it to be re-sprayed and albeit from the dealership. But when it comes right down to it - you make that car right by working it out with them. One piece of advice is to have the service dept write up the EXACT issue word for word and log it into the repair system. This way, if you ever do need to sell down the road - you'll have documentation to show it was all done by Ford themselves and for legitamate issues. My 2 cents.

This is very unfortunate. What nynd500 says is right.I have a Shelby and I can't say any of that. This is why big companies in USA are losing market share to the rest of the world!I am not going to make excuses for Ford(AAI).That's why 44,000 of us are going to lose our jobs. There is too much red tape.I try and help when I can.I do think this is an awesome car.I just hope that this gets worked out before WE(FORD) get another black eye!I will do what I can!...........................07................. ...................

I am confident Ford will come through, they always have for me. Thats why I continue to buy only Ford vehicles. Of the gazillion New Fords and Mercury's I have had including all the used ones I have only had one lemon, which Ford replaced with a 2yr newer model with 10k more in options for 5 grand.

Just heard from my dealer who wants me to bring Shelby in tomorrow some time to meet with Ford
Rep.
I really do not want to rack up miles because if Ford will not do anything I want to keep miles to a
minimum. Its also supposed to rain tomorrow and I spent over 20hrs cleaning up the undercarriage of
every single water spot.
If anyone else has a Shelby or mustang convert built in August, September or October look it over very
closely. I cannot remember the last Ford built year car that the fit and finish was so poor.

Items I say are more than just minor

Starting with Hood and going clockwise around car.
1) Hood appears to have been replaced with poor spot sanding on repaint

2) Front Bumper Cover has marks like the white plastic was put on before paint was dry

3) Right Fender has very poor fit at door (curve is wrong)

4) Pass Door to 1/4 body lines do not match correctly & tape stripe is not straight

5) Fairly Large dent in top of Rt 1/4 appears to be from Mldg installation or manufacturing problem

6) End of Drivers 1/4 has masking tape line

7) Drivers 1/4 has 2 dents in top side behind Convert Top Mldg

8) Drivers 1/4 has an approx 18" Masking tape Line running down center of 1/4

9) The Drivers Front Fender does not line up with bottom of door properly

10) Appears the front wheels are not properly aligned

11) Car does not drive worth a SxxT

12) Ask me why I am not happy with FORD?

13) FORD is going to find out very soon what its like to buy a car with an ADM !!!!!!!!
stay tuned.........

Just returned home from dealer as rep was there to inspect my car. After inspecting car rep said: "I am really sorry you rec'd a car like this"

My wallet is the most sorry.

Rep said they will try to resolve as soon as possible. I Should offer to buy it for parts. I could use the drivetrain.

Upon inspection we also noticed the deck lid fits flat on top side but the lower corners are diff from side to side. Think this car was built crooked on the body buck. To top it all off the Plant Manager himself signed off on car!

All the excitement about owning a coupe and covert Shelby is now gone. The tormenting wait, the constant lies from FORD, cars came months and months late now this. Cars are both for sale. The 3rd Shelby order will go to highest bidder. I am done!! It was supposed to be a HAPPY ending...

Yes pretty sure thats it. No seriously it was used on the next BOLD MOVES video coming out next thursday where they drop a new GT500 from 4000 feet then use a car stretcher to put it back in place.

I tried to leave a message for Alan Mulally this evening and his recording was hilarious. it said

"Rusty Nail Rotten' Board Slap of Paint and dere's yer FORD

beep, please leave a message!

I did just send an email to Alan Mulally, Mark Fields, John Alguire (return said he was out of office today), also to Fords Field Operations manager (do not want to say name) & GT500 Distribution Manager (again do not want to mention his name. (reminds me of the new BOLD MOVES video where Katherine Legge says "If you want something bad enough you find a way":p

I did... I found a way to get a couple Shelby's....... Then i found a way to get some ACTION!! Hows that for a BOLD MOVE Ford?:D :D

Look at the bright side. You will now receive a car with the upgrades, suspension, GPS and who knows what else. This may be a blessing in disguise for a lucky man who already has two Shelbys. Maybe you could request a 2008 GT500KR, if such an animal is in the works? Glad things are looking up and best of luck in your pursuit for cornering the Shelby market.:D :D

I ordered a Red with silver stripe coupe

Premium Interior
Sirius Radio

and also that map thingy

Now I need to finish the 70 Boss so it can be sold along with the 69 Lincoln Mark III and my 427 Side Oiler- Medium RIser and Hi- RIser stuff, my 460 PI heads blocks and parts, a bunch of NOS stuff and pretty much any thing else I will not be using soon.

Nice choice on the red/silver stripe combo. One of the least produced color combos. Most everybody has opted for the red w/white stripe. The white is the most striking but the silver is more cutting edge. Check out Chip Foose's paint schemes & you see what I mean. I have been keeping up w/all of your post & it is refreshing that you have your problems handled & I hope everything will be smooth from here.

Thanks All!

Ford has been really wonderful to work with on this. I was kind of in a panic state with my dealer as they would not return calls or emails. When I made direct contact with FORD things happened pretty fast.

Wish I could post everything that happened and who all I had contact with but want to keep all that info to myself so BIG BLUE does not get upset.

As 07 Mentioned the DVD Navigation will become avail 1st or second week of December. No other changes I am aware of. When I asked about a suspension upgrade I was told NO! Not for another 3yrs or so.

After having the Red Convert with Silver stripes I thought it looked really nice so decided it would be different and good looking on the next order coupe.

Have not made up my mind on the Crimson Interior yet though. Love it on my black car but not sure how it will go with the Red Exterior.

Does anyone have pics of a Red/Silver Coupe?

I already miss the Convert and its been only gone one day. That really was a dream to have the Black/Crimson Coupe and a Red convert. Hopefully the coming Red/Silver Coupe will be as nice as my Black Coupe.

Does anyone have a late model Nav system in a Ford? I am curious to find more about it.

What I would really like to see is my Coupe being built. That would be a dream come true.

The slight bulge on the side of the driver and passenger seat is some what visible in this seat photo. This has been an issue I have been addressing with my dealer for concern the shell underneath the leather skin will wear through the leather. Guess it is a issue with all seats being manufactured. Am not sure if it is part of the air bag system or seat shell? Seeing this I realize a new seat will not solve the problem. As asked before has anyone else noticed this defect?

I believe this will be an issue down the road as the leather skin will eventually be worn through by this protruding object. 07 this is an issue for Ford to address as I believe it is with all seats being manufactured. The more the seat is used the more obvious it becomes. Would hate to see a plastic mold protruding from my leather seats in a few years! I do not have the red leather inserts and believe that is not an issue.

10/11/2006 8:08 A.M. THE RECEIVER DID NOT WANT THE ORDER AND REFUSED THIS DELIVERY;PACKAGE RETURNED TO SENDER

I offered to have it so no signature would be needed but you refused.
UPS contacted you and you told them you would pick it up or have it resent. You then called UPS back and said you did not want it and refused. told them to send back to me?

I ate nearly 20.00 in shipping and you refused it. It was returned here. UPS local lost it for over a week. It was finally found and resent again on my dime
in original unopened package just repackaged. Now you are losing YOUR patience?:p :o  :)

GT500 you chose to go public with this post. You have stated a bunch of lies and the bottom line is you have a sunvisor and I am out the $55 that the visor cost me plus shipping. You were supposed to send it regular mail but according to you a US post office was too far from your residence. The bottom line is for a guy with all these cars and connections you are having a hard time getting me payment. I learned a $55 lesson. And for that matter you are obviously nothing but smoke and mirrors! You know I returned the package because I was not going to be available to sign for it and it would have been returned after several attempts anyway. You never offered to have the signature waived and that was never a discussion between us for I requested regular mail but you chose UPS. I can also post our original PM showing that I requested you send it regular mail and I was going to send the visor just on a word. You got the visor as I promised. It has been nice knowing you.

Joe, You brought this up on forum at least 3 times now where every time I post instead of sending me a PM you put it out for everyone to see and wonder whats up. Now you also have to make a comment that I am the LIAR? It leaves me with no choice but to let others decide what the truth really is.

yes you did say to drop it in regular mail, Yes I did not SEND it the NEXT day and it was going to take 2wks from here regular mail. I wanted you to have payment prior to the visor getting here so I dropped it off at a UPS shippiing center and paid nearly 20.00 to send it. I did not have a problem with spending the 20.00 because I was the one a couple days late. The problem I had is when you REFUSED the package with UPS as seen here

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v513/CalypsoCoralBoss302/185%20Cessna%20Pics/th_2nddaypaymentjoelogalbo003.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v513/CalypsoCoralBoss302/185%20Cessna%20Pics/2nddaypaymentjoelogalbo003.jpg)

I spoke to you about this & it was returned here and stuck in a drawer by UPS folded in half. It took them well over a week to find out what happened to it. They made a SINGLE attempt to call me and when it did not go through they never tried again. When I was finally able to retrieve it I let you know it was found and would be re-sent which it was. I was not about to spend another 20.00 and have you refuse it again so it was sent snail mail. When you do receive it you will find I did not even open the envelope but just put it in another and sent it. You had my phone number and email why could you have not just called or emailed me or waited until my PM box had room. No you had to post it here then call ME the liar? I am not trying to call names just stating a few facts. I admitted my mistake no problem.

What I do not understand is why the PANIC? over 55.00? You knew I sent the package/payment 2nd day. We spoke and kept contact by PM it was re-sent snail mail. no hard feelings hope it works out and you get it soon.

As you all know FORD bought back my Shelby convert. I was told it was being returned to factory. now its on ebay by the dealer I bought it from saying no known factory defects!! Ford is allowing this to happen too. A factory buy back but now no disclosure? Seems like a LAWSUIT brewing for whoever buys it. Pretty good I paid an extra 5grand I will have to eat on a Power Lease and someone gets an early car thats a buy back.

I have the identical car built in the second week of August.

Fortunately I have none of the issues you have mentioned, although now I am also second guessing myself and will walk into the garage to look a little more closely to all the areas you pointed out. But I have hand washed this car a dozen times, and am sure that none of the issues you have commented on are there.

Is the paint perfect, no. Do the doors, hood and trunk lid line up properly? Yeah, they are pretty good considering the car comes off the same line as a Mazda.

The plastic trim on top of the driver door does not line up 100% perfectly with the trim that meets it on the rear quarter but the door lines up with the quarter panel & front fender well and it open & closes snugly as it should without great effort.

But I also have no issues with the way it drives, shifts, steers and brakes. It all works very well and it is a joy to drive. The roads suck where I live, so even considering most family vehicles in my neck of the woods are trucks, it is doing well taking the environment into consideraton.

I am trully sorry your experience has led you to purchase a coupe instead of another vert, and hope for everyone that your car was/is the exception and not the rule for the AAI factory. In the end of it all, even though frustrating it is reassuring that FORD did come through to a great extent, and that whoever does buy your car is satisfied.

I wish you the best of luck with your next GT 500 and look forward to hearing of your experince on that one.

Not trying to feed the fire here but I know specifically of 2 Shelbys that were built in August that were on a delay for 4 weeks after they were built. I heard how many were in this hold up but I forget, maybe 100 + cars & it was a quality control issue. '07 could probably shed some light on this subject if it will not conflict w/his orders handed down from the suits @ Ford regarding "free speech". Chime in on this '07 if you can........shoyoright......

Update,

Its a month today from when I bought the Shelby Convert... Nothing new to add other than a Customer service manager called me yesterday to say I should hear something by this Friday (tomorrow).

The dealer is making BIG bucks off selling the car yet nothing on my re-order!
A sales person at dealer said today that no painting was done on car!
