: Strange happenings

Today I drove to Lousiana and back in my 07 GT500.
I noticed after I fueled up and got on the street that I only had 3/4
tank of fuel, this is not the first time this has happened to me with this car.
I always top off after the pump stops, just to be sure that I am full and the pump hasn't kicked off for whatever reason.
Also I got into a thunderstorm that dumped 3-4 inches of rain on us,rain lasted for quiet some time, and came down pretty hard.
Shortly after the rain started I got a low tire pressure message, stoped checked all tires, they are as should be.
Strange happenings....
Any one else experience either of these problems?

Both of those strange events are electrically related. Any time you start getting strange unexplained happenings on any car go to the ground cable on the battery and check both ends for tightness and corrosion. It could also be the battery,,,bad cell or bad internal connections which you cant see.:)

I can buy the low tire pressure error being electrical.
On the other hand I can't see how the fuel could be.
The car will not except more than the 3/4 tank.
I will be refueling today (the car is just over 1/4 tank) and see if things are diferent.
This seems to be intermitent.
Thanks for your reply.

You are looking at an analog fuel guage which is operated by electricity from the battery. Intermittent operation as you describe also points to a bad ground or defective cell in a battery. Your fuel guage is not the same as one on a boat,,,it is not mechanical,,,it is electrical. Good luck. Ron:)

The problem is with a valv in the fueling system and the dealer knows about this problem. Some people with the s197 body style experience fueling problems but most of the time it is hard to get any fuel in the tank. If you continue to have this problem then take you're car to the dealer and they will fix it free. I believe there is a TSB on this so dont worry about the warranty.
As for the TSP sensor did you just reset the message and did it just come back on?
It may have just got the sensor wet did you check the tire pressure when you got home? The battery is fine or a lot more would have happened not just those two things.

On the tsp sensor problem, the service manager says that I need to run 32 lbs air pressure minimum,I run 30 and haven't had a problem untill now.
I will adjust the pressure and see if that works.
The fuel problem,He says he is unaware of any past problems, but will be glad to check it out for me.
I failed to mention that my front passenger floor was wet also after driving in the hard rain.
The service manager says he will soak it down good an see if he can make it leak, says he has in the past found the windshield to leak.
I can't get in for a few days because of my own work load but I will post back the results after I take the car in.

Once upon a time I read on this forum about someone having a problem with water coming in the car at the door sills. It seems there was a problem with the weather seals on the bottom of the door. Might want to go do a search or does anyone remember this?

Why are you running such low air pressure? It says on the sticker on the door jamb that tire pressure should be 35lbs.
The fueling problem is widespread in all s197 body styles. It has to do with a vent valv around the fuel tank. If it only happens once than dont worry about it. It also may have been the fuel nozzle many factors could be happening here but one time probably a fluke.
There is also a problem under the car on this particular body style where Ford failed to seal a seam under the car on the passenger side. It has been so bad that it lets water into the car and soaked the carpet on the floor. I think it may be behind the kick panel where the computer is.
If they dont find the problem take it to another dealer.

Thanks Bone for the info on the leak,it looks to me as tho the water came in from behind the kick panel.
As for the air pressure.
I always try diferent air pressures, looking for the best ride, handling and tire life.
It looks as tho 30 lbs may be good for this car,but I guess I will need to bump it up some to get rid of the sensor code.

The sensor is only supposed to trip when the DIFFERENCE between tires is greater than 5psi, if i remember correctly. if all four of yours are at 30 i am thinking that you should not have the error? anyone else remember this?

I had the tire monitor problem as well,I reset each TPMS sensor with the TPMS reset tool-looks like a key fob and no problems since-2 months,On the fuel gauge-I also have an 08 F-150 and was reprogramming while filling up-Only showed 1/2 a tank when done-It eventually normalized but I thought that was very strange.

I have either read this or heard it stated before.
After reading your post I got out the owners guide and read,
could not find it stated.
I went out and inflated the tires to 34#,drove a short distance and the code reset. So I guess they do have to be set above 30# even tho I got away with it for a while.

Any tire below 30 will trip the sensor....36 works well for me. As for the tank I had the problem on a 2005 S197 and they replaced the tank for me. I've had it twice with my GT500 but have not taken it in yet....I'm hoping it was the station and not the car.:zlurking:

My TPMS didn't alarm until my tires reached 27lbs. I raised the pressure to the recommended level of 35lbs and the TPMS reset itself. I think they were low when the car was delivered since they all had the same pressure.

As for the gas tank, a clogged vent could cause the gas nozzle to cut off. I had that prob with a travel trailer water tank. The vent line was routed with a low spot that allowed water to stand and close the vent line. The tank would reach a point where no water would go in. I re-routed the vent line to eliminate the low spot.

Good Luck!
