I concur.I have those same mats, they sure are nice. You will probably be a little faster.I have the feeling you will always be a step ahead on the mods.

I inquired about the black/charcoal mats last night. I'll let you know if they answer!
VNMOUS1 08-15-2006, 01:16 PM I inquired about the black/charcoal mats last night. I'll let you know if they answer!
Had my first oil change today. 7 quarts...but I think they put the last half of one in the trash :)
$82.00!! Ouch!!
I was at Al Piemonte Ford in Melrose Park, IL for service. They were not the closest, but I'd heard they were really different (as in great service). I asked Ford about going there for the stripe replacement, etc. They OK'd it.
So, my first experience with them was excellent! They're replacing the stripes that were screwed up....the front air dam that was nicked getting off the truck...and replacing the driver's side door handle/pull assembly. I heard a buzz in front of me and isolated to that mechanism. If you pull it out, like you're opening the door, it stops. So, a replacement is on order.
While I was there I asked about rear mats (since Ford decided that rather than listen to people bitch about them bunching up under the front seats they'd just stop providing them!). You can't buy the rears alone....only the 4 mat package!! Needless to say, I'm not doing it. I'll throw rubber mats back there, because no one will be there except my daughter once in a great while.
Hope everyone's car is doing well. I'm at 1,150 miles in a little over a week! And I LOVE the car.

Did they put in 5w-50 synthetic oil? I'm having trouble finding Motorcraft 5w-50. Even the Motorcraft parts website doesn't show it available. Thinking about Castrol Syntech 5w-50...anybody have any experience with Castrol?
Scott
2008Shelby 08-16-2006, 09:00 AM BJ, did they get the air dam/stripe redo taken care of for you? If so, how'd it go?

I've used Castrol products most of my life. Seems to do the job just fine, although I've never used it in a high-performance car and never Castrol Syntech. I got 300K miles out of a Honda Civic using nothing but Castrol.
busababy 08-16-2006, 06:58 PM Have used Castrol all my life, at one time even ran it in a motorcycle back in 1988 (Katana1100) and the bike red lined around 11K RPM and the oil never broke down. AT 15K miles I pulled the side cover to get to a oil pump and the motor looked brand new. I also ran Castrol Syntech in my truck for 3 years no issues. I will probally run Mobil Syn in the mustang, I run it in the Busa, read a report one time where they put a group of motor oils together and really all them were good but Mobil Syn came out on top just by a hair but winning is winning. I would advise against running the oil till 5K or 7500 miles like they claim. To me oil is a life line of all motors and if you buy at the right place.. costco, wal-marts etc you can get it at a good price. So maybe 4K is the max I would run the oil no matter what the manual says....but to each his own. And remember FORD does NOT refine oil...they purchase from one of the big boys and have it rebottled.. that was also in the review. Same thing with the filters.. at one time FRAM PH8A was repackaged as a motorcraft oil filter which I bought back in the 80's when 302's was in the GT's. But the motorcraft cost more than the FRAM and you can bet the Ford oil will cost more at the dealer than what you or I can get it for in another brand.
2008Shelby 08-16-2006, 07:21 PM What choices do we have for 5w-50 oil? Motorcraft, Castrol...any others? I agree on the mileage. I always try to change my oil by 4000 miles.
rpretzel 08-16-2006, 07:54 PM ...I always try to change my oil by 4000 miles.
I still stick to the old school 3,000 miles. Better safe than sorry. The oil may stand up for more miles, but the oil filter still gets clogged with goo.

I opted to get the EJECT plug, like I have in my '06. I got it in Satin to match the vents.

shlbysvt 08-29-2006, 04:07 PM I am looking to purchase the Cobra oil cap and radiator cap but am not sure if the Gt500 oil cap is a screw or cam type. As for the radiator cap is it as shown on the MGW website? How about it you fortunate ones with your Shelby safe and sound in your garages. We less fortunate ones are attempting to get our ducks in order as to take our minds off of material hold and step # 10 of 07's infamous list. What's your feelings Prez?

Hey, those are pretty cool. I didn't know you could get Cobra caps. I'm not sure my wife would be too pleased with me paying $38.00 for an oil cap.
I'm right with you on getting the ducks in a row. It helps to keep the mind off the wait. I've been shopping for new exhaust. I'm leaning toward the Bassani axle-back. And I've already got my Zaino (See pic gallery :D ). Of course, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how I'm going to get my Shelby home if it's delivered during a blizzard.

I am not sure if the radiator cap is available with cobra insert, but the oil cap is to be introduced according to the site. I went with the Steeda exhaust but ordered a little prematurely and should have gone with the Ford Motor Sport version as did 07 & busababy. I believe the only difference is stamping but am not sure if that is both exhaust & tips or tips only. Well who cares it is the sound that is the key. It is the wait that is killing me. I know that you can appreciate that feeling.

The oil cap is a screw type.I have bought several items from MTW,including the oil cap and it is all top notch stuff.I am very happy with it.

I am not sure.I ordered over the phone to make sure there was no confusion and everything was correct and fast shipping. You have to tell them that you want the snake on the oil cap and the power outlet plug.Very pleased.
I e-mailed mgw yesterday and they sent me pics of what's available with the cobra logo. Currently, they offer the oil cap and power outlet plugs. They mentioned they are working on a rear deck emblem and other items. I've attached the pics (I hope this works).
shoyoright 09-03-2006, 08:23 PM busababy, love your car, very tasteful mods. Where did you get the mirror covers. As I mentioned last week I am looking to lower my car a bit. Does anyone have a kit for the GT500. I assume you got the muffler system from Ford racing. Keep up the good posting.
2008Shelby 09-04-2006, 02:38 AM How is the carpet quality on those mats vs the ones that Ford gives us with the car? Is the mat heavier or tend to slide around?
Thanks.

They are very nice.Better than stock, they don't slide around and look good in the car.
2008Shelby 09-04-2006, 05:23 AM Thanks 07,
I'll be putting my order in for a set of black ones with the Cobra. They come in a set of 4 mats correct?

Yes,mine did.
busababy 09-04-2006, 02:40 PM I got the mirror covers off of Ebay, however a company called midwest auto (I think) also sells them. I have noticed that allot of car companies are doing the two tone on the mirrors. My new Motortrend Mag has a Grand Prix on the cover and they have 2 tone mirrors. They are starting to grow on me but wish they would have been painted red from the factory I would have paid another $ 100.00 for the car :)
busababy 09-05-2006, 07:41 PM Floor mats do come with 4 of them, only the 2 up front have the cobra on them.
And the red carpet mats are faster :)
Got my floor mats yesterday - they look great. I ordered the black ones. Now I need a Shelby to put them in!!

Mine got here a day later and I actually have a Shelby to put them in! That is, if it stops raining long enough for me to get them in there!
These are black, also and they appear to be high quality mats. And they do include the rear mats!
2008Shelby 09-08-2006, 11:49 AM Oldimp,
Did you get the plain black ones or with the Cobra on them? Does the black carpet on them match the carpet in the Shelby?
Thanks.
Scott

Scott,
I got the Cobra on mine. They are really black, and they are somewhat darker than the charcoal carpeting, but not enough difference to worry about. They look really good and as soon as I get one of my cameras back, I'll post a picture of them in the car. They are also a little better quality than the OEM mats.
2008Shelby 09-08-2006, 06:28 PM Thanks. I've seen the red ones, but would like to see them in black.

I received over the weekend from MGW my chrome oil cap, radiator cap, radio knob and power outlet plug - they look great.
07 - are you keeping your chrome radiator and oil caps on all of the time or just for show? I was also thinking of when I get the oil changed to switch back to OEM just to be safe.

Aldy,
They are very nice aren't they?I will keep mine on all the time since it is not my daily driver.Living here in Michigan it won't see snow either.I would like to tell you this though.I keep the original plastic caps in a ziploc bag in the trunk just in case I am at a car show and somebody steals the chrome ones I won't be stranded.Something to think about..............07..................
07, I was thinking the same thing. The car will only be driven in the summer time for pleasure drives and then stored in the winter. Good idea about keeping the original parts in the truck.
cornfay 09-11-2006, 03:04 PM Yeah thats a great idea, and since they are all out of the Shaker 1000's I will have plenty of trunk room, man that still burns me,
ShelbyTom 09-11-2006, 06:21 PM Shouldn't we get a gruop discount on mats?
I think Busa or Oldimp got the first ones. They should get a full refund and the rest of us should get some discount. What do you think? Never hurts to ask.:)
busababy 09-12-2006, 09:15 PM I like that idea. I know there is a group of us that have hayabusas 14 to be exact in my area and we have gotten deals on tires, exhaust just to name a few because 6 or more bought at the same time. We would get what they call Jobber price which is what dealers pay for it. Sometimes not much saving but on the $ 700.00 Yosh exhaust we did save $ 75.00 dollars. Just an idea. The next big purchase for me will be a SCT tuner. Since I have not seen enough people on this board that is going that route I am still sticking with Steeda but there is a couple that I am keeping my eye on. Once I have 1000 miles on the motor I will reflash. Currently around 533.

I just emailed mgw asking about a radiator cap with the Cobra emblem. Here is their response:
"we have the oil cap and dipstick with the cobra logo but ford will not allow us to logo the rad. caps for some reason."
That's just weird!
mgw told me the same thing - doesn't make sense you can have the cobra emlem on the oil cap but not the radiator cap - who cares!!
Make sure if you order the radiator cap you order two of them.
cornfay 09-21-2006, 02:50 PM In an earlier post if gives a link for all of that stuff, which style is the cap, screw in or other? Thanks. I wouldnt have to ask if I had my car already so here I am.
mgw website is the following:
www.mgwltd.com
They do have a cobra oil cap and power outlet plug but these are not shown in the web site - you have to call to get the cobra emblem. The oil cap screws on.
rpretzel 09-21-2006, 03:35 PM They are also going to have a cobra-branded oil dipstick. They should start getting them in on Monday (Sept 25th). George at MGW said it looks like a mini oil cap.
shlbysvt 09-21-2006, 04:20 PM Anyone find any good license plate brackets? MGW has some but I believe they were $58 for the 1990 to 2004 and assume the 05 to current will be around the same price, although pictures currently not available. Kind of steep. I think I just answered my own question? Given the quality of MGW products I will just wait to see the release of their plate bracket.
shlbysvt 09-22-2006, 08:51 AM Just spoke with MGW and license plate brackets and dipstick handles will be in on Monday as the Prez said so my order is in.
rpretzel 09-22-2006, 09:29 AM I ordered my floor mats last night. (Black w/Cobra logo). I don't have a VIN, but I'm going to have sweet floor mats! :D :p
I'll probably order caps and plugs from MGW soon.
I can just see it now. My garage is going to be full of parts with no Shelby to put them on. Buying stuff sure does help to ease the pain during the wait. :D

I feel your pain Prez, I did the same thing but originally ordered only one radiator cap. As stated be sure to order two. The mats are excellent, much better quality than stock and really make the car. They also send rear mats which for some reason did not come stock. Hang in there and I know you have heard this before but the wait is well worth it.
rpretzel 09-22-2006, 09:39 AM I feel your pain Prez, I did the same thing but originally ordered only one radiator cap. As stated be sure to order two.
Why order 2?
shlbysvt 09-22-2006, 09:43 AM Why order 2?
The intercoller has a separate resevoir than the radiator and they are identical caps.
rpretzel 09-22-2006, 09:52 AM Thanks, shlbysvt. I'll have to keep that in mind.
oldimp 03-24-2008, 06:47 AM mgw told me the same thing - doesn't make sense you can have the cobra emlem on the oil cap but not the radiator cap - who cares!!

John, I finally found something I like for the MGW radiator caps. I got some of the key chains from The Ford Collection, removed the chain and it fits nicely into the top of the MGW cap! I used high temp red RTV to bond it in.
