Do it, and get on the board so you can effect change.

I joined the biggest club in our area. SEVMC SouthEastern Virginia Mustang Club @ Beach Ford.

All they ever do and all their energy is spent at car shows.

I don't care for car shows, I want to drive my car.

Drive to some destinantion for the day and back or just a Sunday cruise.

Perhaps a day at the track or Road Course?

But all they do is car shows every other weekend.

That is the one I was thinking of joining. I do not mind car shows. I have entered in 2 so far. There is no way I could do it that often though. Once in a while is fine. Getting together and cruising some place for dinner or whatever would be a lot of fun though.

Yup, that's why I said get on the board and get some things changed.

I was in a club years ago, we had Chevy engineers attend once a year to tell us about upcoming Camaro changes (remember that I lived in Cincinnati at the time, and Camaros were made in Cincinnati (Norwood) at that time). We got discounts on Chevy parts through a local dealer that sponsored us. We had meet and greets, and one show a year. We had monthly meetings, and in winters we'd have card parties and so on. We had one person a month at the meeting talk about a technical issue too. Great club.

I joined the Mustang Club of Houston which is part of the Mustang Club of America. They do it all here, cruise somewhere like go carts, car meets or whatnot and then eat, monthly meetings and then dinner, track events, 2 car shows a year. All sorts of mustangs, old and new, v6s, gt, bullets, Machs, old Shelbys, there are prolly 8 GT500s in our group now. We also have a Couple of Ford employees that keep us up to date on the Mustangs and Ford in general.

I can see the value in a local club but one that is based in LasVegas and your on the east coast with all the events anywhere from 600 to 3000 miles away doen't seem to work out too well. IMO

I am currently the president of a local club here in So Cal (Orange County). We have a cruise every month, hold monthly meetings, have a monthly newsletter, as well as an annual car show. Club has been around since 1985. If you are local here in So Cal - check out our web site - www.SaddlebackMustang.com

+1

Our club, Heart of Carolina Mustang Club is also a MCA charter. It's a very diverse group of Mustang owners. We do many events; shows, cruise-in, track days (straight line and the twisty's), parades, tech days and many more events. Its a great sourse of information for new gen and classic mustangs.

How are things in OC these days? I moved to Arizona from Yorba Linda about 29 yrs ago. Sometimes I sure miss all the things there was to do there, especially the beach cities

Hey there Joe,

Well, I guess it all depends on who you talk to :) If you havent been back here in 29 years, its changed a LOT I am sure :) Financially right now seems to be kinda tough. We are at least a little fortunate in that my wife has a fairly good income (although it seems we get closer and closer to the red every month). If it werent for her income, well, its hard to say where we would be living. Gas prices are CRAZY here right now. If prices keep on going up its going to be difficult for people to afford to drive to work. Besides my Mustang (Mach1), I have an F-250 diesel. I figured out the other day that when I drive the truck it costs me anywhere from $12 to $15 per day to drive it to work - and thats if I ONLY drive it to work (dont take it out for lunch or anythig else). Amazing - never thoght I would see fuel costs this high. Housing SEEMS to be making a comeback (I am also a Realtor). Buyers seem to be coming back onto the market looking for homes. There arent as many sellers though - most of the homes that are on the market (which is a lot) are either short sales or bank owned properties. As always, seems like the car culture always has something going on. If its not the Cars and Coffee meet in Irvine every Saturday morning, you can almost always find some other event to attend on any given weekend. And, of course the weather is nearly always nice :)

My wife has made noise about wanting to move away from California when the kids are out (3 girls, the oldesnt is going to be 18 in December, the youngest is going to be 16 in December). What made you decide to move to Arizona? My wife has always wanted to live in Colorado - near Colorado Springs I guess. Its either there or Seattle (which would be MY choice) :) Thats a ways off though :)

I haven't joined an official club yet. I've gone to a few different club events, but haven't joined any yet. I'm hooking up with some Denver Mustang Club guys tomorrow to caravan up to the RMMR. We'll see how that goes. I just haven't gotten a really warm & fuzzy feeling from any of the clubs. I think that's why I was so excited to organize the Colorado Breakfast Club.

I definitely don't get the "warm fuzzies" from the SN95 guys. That's why I haven't joined any around here, either.

The Fox Body guys have been a little cold to me too. I don't get it. We're all fans of mustangs. Just because mine is newer doesn't mean it's any less of a mustang.

Interesting story:
I went to a small car show a couple weeks ago that was sponsored by a local car club. The judges went from car to car with their little clipboards making notes and comments. When they got to our Shelby, one judge says to another, "huh...just write a check, and enter it in a show." It really pissed me off. I even had a list displayed of the $15,000 in modifications on the car, 99% of which I did myself.

The winner of the class was a SN95 Cobra...all stock except for the wheels and an aftermarket KB supercharger. How is that any less of a checkbook car than mine? WTF?

I get sick and tired of people thinking our Shelby is just a checkbook car. Yes, I wrote a check when I bought it, but I put in a lot of time and effort into modifications to make it unique. No one seems to see that. I bet I've spent more time under that car than many/most of the people at the car shows I attend. Checkbook car? Eat me, ass munch!

Rant complete. :cowtounge:

SOME clubs are very strange for some reason. I also belong to another So Cal club, and really dont go to the events/meetings anymore simply because nobody tries to make you feel welcome. Its almost as if you arent part of the click, you dont get treated well. I have had other people tell me the same thing about this particular club.

When joining a club just look at what they do and what is the age of the members,
Most car club members dont have kids like I do so sometimes I cant do some of the things that the club does like go carting and lunch at HOOTERS.
Its hard to get into the group until you have attend a few events that they have because like you they want to get to know what you are all about.
The club that I belong to is very friendly. When we go to the Goodguys show we get there early to get a good spot then every Mustang that goes by we try to get them to park with us. We usually have the biggest grouping of mustangs at the show. And if you belong to another club then you are still welcome. The more the Mustangs in the area the more we like it.
We had a cruise to the Blackhawk Auto Museum and we had 86 cars.
Keep trying as I didn't fit in right away.

I got tired of the fast paced living in So. Cal. and the cost of living in Orange County. For a while I was living in Redlands and driving to Bob Black Oldsmobile in Sant Ana every day which was just crazy!
In 1980 I was offered a position as a shop manager in Sun City Arizona so I decided to try it. I was still living in Redlands and now working in Arizona which meant I drove home every weekend until I was sure that Arizona was where I wanted to be (took about 3 months to decide). Well I have been here ever since and still at the same company except now I own a piece of the company, just enough so that I can never leave :o

RMMR is a great show. My wife and kids have a great time everytime we go. It may take a few trips with the club before you become part of the pack. Some of the best people I know I met at car shows. I take my 07 and 67 Shelbys to a lot of shows and have received nothing but good from doing so. You will always find people who are not owners that will say things that will get you going. Remember they can say anything they want, but you are the one going home with one great car.

Man, a drive from Redlands to Santa Ana today would be HORRILBE to say the least. Sounds like all in all it was a good choice :) Hehehehe - ownership does have its advantages and disadvantages I guess :) Good for you that you were willing to give something different a shot. :)
