cyrusapollo 06-12-2006, 02:14 PM Hey, 07 Shelby!
Just curious, how many have you got out yet? Arent you guys shutting down soon for a couple weeks? Any major production problems or are they ticking along like clockwork?

We are building approximately 3 per hour or 24 per shift x 2 shifts = 48 per day.None are out the door.
Yes starting the weekend before the 4th of July.
We are low on shaker 1000's,dooh did I say that.No we have plenty of shaker 1000's.Last time I looked there were 10 Shelby's out of 24 that had shaker 1000's for the shift.
We have a few logistical problems, but were plugging away.Nothing major.
Sweet! Thanks for the update...keep us posted!

cyrusapollo 06-12-2006, 03:07 PM Hey, sorry meant to ask this earlier, the sequential identifier in the VIN is the 12th thru 17th, correct? So if I get a car that is 1ZVFT88S17T000346, then thats the 346th Cobra built?
07 SHELBY 06-12-2006, 03:22 PM No, I don't think it works that way.Sorry!
cyrusapollo 06-12-2006, 03:29 PM Do you know the correct way to read them? I am sure everyone is going to want to know what number their car is from a production #'s stand point.
07 SHELBY 06-12-2006, 03:33 PM I cannot explain right now.I do not have the time. Please do not take this the wrong way. There is other ways to determine this.I am sure somebody will step up to the plate and explain this, maybe Busababy or someone.
Barcelona 06-12-2006, 06:34 PM My friend who is number 1 ahead of me at our dealer has been told his car will arrive at the dealership June 29th. A first day production run car.
busababy 06-12-2006, 07:08 PM Well here goes, don't hold this against me if I am off a little, like the fine print always reads "Your mileage may Vary :) "
1st character- Identifies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured.
For example: U.S.A.(1or4), Canada(2), Mexico(3), Japan(J), Korea(K), England(S), Germany(W), Italy(Z)
2nd character- Identifies the manufacturer. For example; Audi(A),
BMW(B), Buick(4), Cadillac(6), Chevrolet(1), Chrysler(C), Dodge(B),
Ford(F), GM Canada(7), General Motors(G), Honda(H), Jaquar(A), Lincoln(L), Mercedes Benz(D), Mercury(M), Nissan(N), Oldsmobile(3), Pontiac(2or5), Plymouth(P), Saturn(8), Toyota(T), VW(V), Volvo(V).
3rd character- Identifies vehicle type or manufacturing division.
4th to 8th characters- Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.
9th character- Identifies VIN accuracy as check digit.
10th character- Identifies the model year. For example: 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994(R), 1995(S), 1996(T),
1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3)
11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle.
12th to 17th characters- Identifies the sequence of the vehicle for production
as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line
shoyoright 06-12-2006, 09:21 PM Is there any truth in this statement, "all Ford dealers will get 1 Shelby before any Ford dealer gets a 2nd car"...I've heard it a few times & I like it as most of my cars come from dealers that will only 1 or I am getting their first Shelby. Thanks in advance PC

I don't think this is correct....the 12th - 17th characters portion. VINs are assigned prior to production, so they cannot represent the order they come off the line. Many others who work in the plant say that we have not yet found a logical sequence to these numbers.
I work in a manufacturing plant (not autos) where we have multiple products coming off the same line similar to AAI (Mazda, Mustang GT, Shelby, etc.). In our case, there are numbers that start out sequenced in the computer, but they are assigned across the products. In other words, a Mazda may get the last digits of 000321 and a GT500 scheduled just after that may get 000322. Even this logic is suspect, as some members who've posted VINs are seeing wide gaps in the numbers. Admittedly there is still some mystery to this.

07 SHELBY 06-13-2006, 10:56 AM You are correct. They are not in sequential order.Let me see if I can get some more info on this subject.
07 SHELBY 06-13-2006, 12:05 PM There is no way to check what # in production your car was built with the VIN #.
cyrusapollo 06-13-2006, 01:33 PM I called the Shelby Hotline and I was told that due to what HORSETRADERDAVE was saying, there is no way to determine production # from the VIN until all of the 07's are built. After that, it can be "decoded."

It can be done through the factory. No not every dealer will get one before all dealer gets another, some will get more than 1 car before a smaller dealer gets his 1.
rpretzel 07-10-2006, 04:07 PM Does anyone know how many Shelbys have been built so far?
07 SHELBY 07-10-2006, 04:44 PM Does anyone know how many Shelbys have been built so far?
Depends on what you want to count but to be fair around 800.
milezperhour 07-10-2006, 04:45 PM Now i'm reading a five year production at 8-10k per. Any truth to this? Does anyone REALLY know what the production time period and total built is? Doesn't make it very rare, or justifiable for the price dealers are asking. I'm leaning more and more towards the Challenger every day.

Go ahead go.There is a 3 year run at 9,000 per year. You don't think the Challenger is going to be marked up?

Don't be so quick to defect:( ...All of the so-called new muscle cars are going to be difficult to get your hands on in our capitalistic society. I would suggest exercising patience and keeping an eye out for what the market does over the next year and a half...in that time frame, you will still be able to get your hands on a Shelby or make the decision to go after whatever is newly in the spotlight...be it a Challenger or Camaro. Just remember, there is always going to be something better and faster coming to market...it all depends on if you have any brand loyalty (like a lot of us Shelby folks have :) and how much $$ you want to spend.
07 SHELBY 07-10-2006, 05:10 PM Go ahead get your Challenger and let us know when you get it.I think the Challenger is a great car.I liked it then and I like it now but that's not what I want.Welcome to the "I WANT MY SHELBY NOW CLUB".Ford should issue Valium to all people who order 1.
07 SHELBY 07-10-2006, 05:25 PM I know, I have never been to therapy before but I bet we could get a group rate.LOL.Shelby therapy. We could all sit around and share our feelings.Or if you want to wait a month, come on over and I will take you guys for a ride.My wife thinks we are all pathetic. She does not understand.I am not sure if I do.Hey let's not get on each other, like everything it will all pass.
LOOK N GO 07-10-2006, 05:45 PM I have to log in thoughout the day just to read the view points people have. This is the best part of waiting for the Shelby. How many of the whinners ever thought this day would come? You have the chioce between the Z06, viper, GT, Shelby, and Challenger. These are the days to get what you want. Who would of thought that this day would be here in the 80's or 90's as a true chioce. I always knew from the first day I saw a 69 Shelby red conv. at a local 1980 car show if ever I had a chance to buy one I would. No one will change my dream with simple rhetoric. I been through the times when people didn't know what the car was or the when they would say it was a dog (I have delt with boss 9 cars and items for years). Until you own one you are ignorant. This is America buy what you want and be happy you have the chance. This car is a representation of one man's reputation and life's pursuit. All others are just a corporate attempt for the bean counters to make a profit. Hats off to Ford, thanks for the opportunity.

Therapy? Hell, if we weren't so spread out I'd settle for a group hug! LOL :p This is beginning to sound a lot like the guys I work with...All very opinionated and often times it ends up moving in different directions very quickly. As far as therapy goes, I've been on the couch several times and this forum still beats it hands down. It's really another way of venting testosterone w/o worrying about reproducing...Not many ladies out there who would spend $50K on a car that takes $4.00/gallon gas all so they could bitch about how Evan Smith got his car to go 3/10's faster than everybody else!! :D
Still patiently waiting for my GT500...And the beat goes on...
oldimp 07-10-2006, 07:02 PM I went to therapy this afternoon! I go again Wednesday and again Friday! It will be very difficult to keep my appointments if the Shelby gets here!
Oh, yeah, rotator cuff!
rpretzel 08-01-2006, 02:15 PM Any update on how many Shelbys have been built to date?
07 SHELBY 08-01-2006, 05:27 PM No I don't know.
