The much-anticipated 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 will start at $42,975, including a $745 destination charge and a $1,300 gas-guzzler tax. The Shelby GT500 convertible will start at $47,800, including shipping and the gas-guzzler tax, Ford told Inside Line on Friday.
Ford dealers were notified of the pricing this week.
"We haven't started shipping to dealers yet, but that should begin in a couple of weeks — by July at the latest," Ford spokesman Jim Cain said. He said Ford dealers are taking orders for the car and that the automaker expects to build 8,000-10,000 units per year.
Cain also said the Shelby GT500 is about to begin making the rounds of Shelby and Mustang Club events, with the first event kicking off next week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "The car will be hitting the road, and more people will get the opportunity to see it," he said.
The Shelby GT500 is the most powerful factory-built Mustang, churning out 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
