zimm17 12-16-2011, 11:18 AM Here's the main thread at allfordmustang.com LINK (http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/mustang-gt500/300732-grind-1st-2nd-ideas.html)
Deysha from ford customer service is on that forum- PM her your VIN number and local dealer info and she'll take of the rest. I had my tranny rebuilt with 600 miles on it. Fixed the grind.
Sa-When 12-16-2011, 11:29 AM Thanks for the info..Mine has done this since the day I got it..I was waiting for a TBS.
zimm17 12-16-2011, 11:36 AM Don't wait- I doubt they'll do one.
Get the technician to drive with you as the passenger. Tell him to shift at 5500 quickly and try to chirp the tires. Then he'll get a grind and you'll be on your way to getting the tranny rebuilt with the new parts.
Don't just get a tranny replacement- some have done it and still get the grind.
Read through the threads for more info- like making sure the dealer has the 4 specialized tools to take the Tremec TR-6060 tranny apart and they have the parts on hand before you leave the car.
Deysha will expedite and elevate your repair to high levels and your dealer will jump when they call a call from "corporate".
Let the dealer know many others have had the same problem, and the rebuild will fix it with the updated 1st and 2nd gear parts.

Cannot believe FORD have not sorted this out on the ASSEMBLY LINE, after the Tranny TSB fiasco with the 07-09s.
Mixednuts 12-18-2011, 07:05 PM Round and round we go..... Good luck with Ford.
hotrodrock 03-15-2012, 02:33 PM Ford has known about this disaster of a transmission since they first put them in the '07's (which I have and it has always had the 2nd grind). Ford is starting the 7th model year of the GT500 and they still have done nothing to correct the problems with this piece of junk transmission. That pretty much leads me to believe they have no intention of ever making the thing work like it should in a car in this price range.:boohoo:

The TR-6060 may grind going into second, but they are not junk. They're nearly invinsible.

MRL Performance 03-15-2012, 03:36 PM LOL, I love these threads. First off, this isn't a Ford transmission, and second it isn't just a Ford problem. Tremec builds the same transmission for the Vette, Camaro, Challenger, etc. Guess what, they all (to some degree), experience the same 1-2 shift issue. Ford, and Tremec, are both well aware of the issue, and also how to fix it. The problem comes down to, who pays?
The 07-09 flywheel/clutch problem was directly a Ford issue. SVT designed the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. The input shaft replacement was to go along with the design flaw update and deemed to help as a fix. The 1-2 shift issue is completely different and the result of hard parts in the transmission that Ford did not design or build. Had a 2010 Challenger in here last summer with like 1000 miles on it that had a complete second gear lockout past about 4000rpm.
There are probably a whole raft of reasons why they have not just been doing the carbon syncro's right off the bat, or coming up with some other solution. Probably cost, blame, etc. That said, the updated parts do seem to make a big difference. I have heard of some still having the issue after a warranty repair, but most come away happy as long as it is done right.
VonGreenland 03-16-2012, 03:09 PM I'm so friggin bummed out. Dropped off my car this morning and went for a ride with the service manager and he couldn't get it to grind!!!! Wtf!!!! He then basically told me that if he can't make the grind happen- he cant assess the issue. Therefore, won't be fixing what seemingly does not exist. I just sent a msg to Deysha explaining everything. I'm hoping she can do something otherwise this is all a complete waste. Especially considering I'm leaving my car with them and I live 2.5 hrs away. FML!!
NC4stroker 03-16-2012, 03:29 PM Just under 200 miles on the clock, and so far so good. Hopefully the tranny problems are fixed for 2012.
SteelTownStang 03-16-2012, 05:20 PM Hearing about this issue on this forum and others I have tried to duplicate this problem with my '12 and cannot... even when shifting in an unorthodox manner it will not grind... I am satisfied that my car does not exhibit this anomaly.

lucky you
Detroitboy 03-19-2012, 11:25 PM I talked to a Tremac rep at the Detroit Hod Rod show. He said the problem is Ford's clutch not fully releasing at high RPM to allow easy engagement. Everybody points the finger at everyone else.

Grey11500 03-22-2012, 08:42 PM Bringing mine in next week, has been grinding since day one. Have almost 12000 miles on it still does it. Have the wot box still does it, but not as often. I find that if I shift it slower it doesn't grind. But I didn't buy this car to drive it like my dump truck.

What was the result of your action with Ford? I have a 2010 that has 1) the 1-2 grind, 2) chattering clutch, and 3) driveshaft thumping.

I agree, its a PITA, Ford should fix this issue instead of having a strategy of getting us one by one with a service manager then deny some while fixing others they know as well as Tremec there is a real issue, they want to minimize cost is all they are doing.
