: Took the Beast to the dragstrip again. (No Traction)

Well I took the beast to the drag strip for the 2nd time in its life, this time with more power, more mods and went slower :( The reason why of course is no traction. I tried different launches but could not get the tires to hook up. So going back next year with new rubber (nitto) and will see what happens. Best run was only 12.5 @ 119mph spinning through 1st / 2nd / and than went to 3rd and 2 seconds into 3rd started spinning and went sideways which seemed cool from the video but in the car it scared the hell out of me. Funny thing is on the street running it just as hard it does not kick sideways hitting 3rd so it surprised me that it would at a drag strip. Oh well next year will have more go fast goodies and better traction so should have not problems running 11's in fact it should have run 11's now but need to hook. (Spinning isnt' winning) The best run the car has seen 12.3 before the pulley mod, drive shaft, and steeda suspension work. With those above mods now the car just over powers the stock tires.

Here is the video not that great in quality and you have to watch close to see it slide in 3rd but you can see it and see the smoke coming off the tires.

That fishtail looked a lot scary. Did you rip a hole in your seat with that one?

I noticed a funny smell from inside the car 10 seconds after it happend :)

The video from the camera really shows it, but youtube compresses to much. Need to find another service so I can upload the high res version.

I did the same thing. I added more power and went slower! Same results, no traction with stock f1's. Best time 12.16@117.91mph.........that is when I had 503rwhp & 489rwtq.

I am thinking the same, I need some tires before I go back to the track!

I had Nitto's on one of my other toys and they were great, will look into all the brands to make sure something is better but I was very happy with the Nitto, I know I can get a drag radial but I don't take it to the strip enough for that, in fact I just wanted to run 11 something and than I would have been happy but now I have to go back and try again. :) I would love to have new rims when I go but I want 18 inch rims and not 20inch. But it seems everytime I find a wheel I like I find out there is a clearance issue with the brakes :( Found one set of 18's but they are something like 2600.00 which I would rather not spend that much for rims. If anyone knows of any chrome 18's that will work with our cars please post up. I might start a new thread asking the same questions.

Same here, I want 18's instead of 20's. I love the shelby razor but it only fits on 20's. thye need to design it to fit in 18 size.

+1 I'd buy the razors immediately if they were available in an 18 and 10" width.

And I'd be the guy in front of you in line.

There has to be enough of a market out there that someone would come up with an 18" rim, in 10" or 11" width, for these cars.

Tell me about it. The one thing that really surprises me about this Shelby is the lack of aftermarket rims. Someone could make a killing by producing a series of affordable wheels for this car.

Okay 07 Shelby pick up the red phone and get Carrol on it. Tell him he is the one that put the big brakes on the car, and now he needs to design a rim to fit it. :)

There was a reason they went with 18inch rims to begin with and it is that same reason why we want to stay with 18's.

Tell him we don't want it now... we want it RIGHT NOW :)

In fact I have my credit card in hand just waiting to place an order.

Although I haven't made a single mod yet, I had a friend ask me today when I am taking it to the strip. I told him I didn't want to waste the rear brakes when I have no cutoff installed, and that traction would be an issue on the stock wheels. He offered (space in his pickup) to bring slicks to the track..

Not sure I want to take him up on this, but told him I was planning to make some mods in the Spring (still not entirely sure what I want yet though).

Any of you run on slicks want to share your ETs and mod list?

Bill,

What was the air temp? Nittos or not, you're not getting squat in the cold.
F1s would turn to stone below 45f. I deep sixed them and pick up a set of BFG KDW2's. Night and day! Still a little greasy below 40 degrees...they're summer tires. But, MUCH improved over anything else I've seen. There's a DR version of them and they're stickier than the 555s.

Thank you BJ for the update, it was between 50 and 60 that day. I will look into other tires before I buy and I will look into the ones you said. I called Shelby Auto and they claim that in 08 they will be releaseing some rims for the GT500 that are 18inch that FIT the brakes and will come in chrome and satin. So when that day comes new tires for the new rims :) Our rims are heavy from what other members have posted so lighter rims will be a good thing. Just need to have some traction :)

Different tracks prep better, this one I was at others complained as well about traction. Well except people running slicks. I took my Busa to the strip and it did the same thing as far as spinning and I run a drag radial. :(
The new tires will make all the difference next year and of course besides new tires I will be making more HP to help at the big end of the track :)
