: Shelby's in Oklahoma?
dsublett 10-29-2007, 09:02 PM Just joined this site tonight. I live in Oklahoma and purchased a 2007 GT500 coupe with redstripe package (option 54R) about 2 months ago at Joe Cooper Ford in Midwest City. I've had 7 Mustangs and this one is by far the best. It's just a blast to drive! The Shaker 1000 system is also great.
Hello to all you GT500 owners and hope to talk to you further in the future.

Arbour88 10-30-2007, 09:31 AM dsublett,
Welcome to the forum!
Lots of good guys here and lots more information for you to read about.
:D
dsublett 10-30-2007, 06:21 PM The car is ebony with red stripes. It was built June 14, 2007. I went to Joe Cooper Ford in Midwest City (suburb of Oklahoma City) on September 5th and it was sitting on the showroom floor. I was thinking about red with white stripes or white with blue stripes, but really liked this car. Bought it that day and traded in my '99 Cobra convertible which was also a great car. However this car is certainly a cut above any car I've ever owned. This is the 7th Mustang I've owned and is truly a joy to drive. I've already got 2300 miles on it. No problems thus far.
By the way, I was very impressed with the dealership - very professional and I felt I got a pretty good deal.
dsublett 10-30-2007, 06:24 PM P.S. Thanks for all the kind replies. Looking forward to talking with you many times in the future.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your Shelby! :D

dsublett 01-04-2008, 03:58 PM Welcome ftrpilot and congrats on your Shelby purchase. I live in Stillwater and hope to meet you at some point. This is a great site with a lot of good information.
Thanks Illegal for your post. I really enjoy this site - lots of friendly folks who really like their cars.
The Shelby is getting some limited use this winter and has slightly over 3K miles. So far no significant problems.
ShelbyOK 01-11-2008, 02:47 PM I also live in Tulsa.....with a red Shelby w/ white stripes.....is yours and '07 or an '08?
ginson3 01-11-2008, 03:03 PM Hey Guys,
Ponca City here, glad to see so many in the area, when the weather is agreeable sometimes we should find a place to gather. There is a a Mustang club out of Tulsa "Boldmoves.proamerica.us" I think, are any of you members? I have been thinking about joining, sounds like they do some fun stuff.
ShelbyOK 01-12-2008, 09:37 AM I'd be for an Okie get together. I really don't see many of us driving around on the streets of Tulsa, but I hear there are several of us out there.
dsublett 01-12-2008, 11:09 AM Good to hear from you shelbyOK and ginson3. I didn't know about the club in Tulsa. There has been an Oklahoma chapter of SVTOA for some time - I used to be involved some but got busy and haven't been to meetings in several years. It would be great to meet at some point. I'm going to try to go to Mid-America event this summer.
In Stillwater I have seen two GT 500s - a red with white stripes and a black convertible. Don't know if these are local guys. Not many on the road which is neat - don't meet yourself going and coming.
Keep in touch.
Dwight Sublett
fghtrpilot 01-13-2008, 06:29 PM Mine's an 07 red/white stripes...took me over a year to get one! I'd love to get together some time...lunch somewhere or better yet Hallett?
gene64cobra 01-14-2008, 09:20 AM congradulations dsublett and welcome to the club. i am in claremore,ok are you close. 07 vista blue white stripes. talk to you later
ginson3 01-15-2008, 03:39 PM Soon as i get mine out of the shop, and the weather breaks a lunch gathering sounds great. Any of you guys have or are considering mods? If are considering any, and don't have the time and or expertise, I can HIGHLY recommend Archangel Motorsports in Tulsa. They (Curtis, Justin, & David) did the Kenne Bell install for me, and are now doing some traction and suspension work.
fghtrpilot 01-15-2008, 04:01 PM Just did the FFRP CAI/Tune/& exhaust with Porterfield pads.:D
dsublett 01-15-2008, 07:45 PM My car is still bone stock. I am a pediatrician here in Stillwater and I haven't had much time to pursue modifications. I also have concerns regarding warranty issues - I'm hearing so many conflicting reports. I did several mods on my '99 Cobra and fortunately never had any major problems with that vehicle. I would really like to know what Ford considers OK and what it does not, in terms of modifications - it seems somewhat nebulous to me at this point. I haven't talked to the dealership ( Joe Cooper in Midwest City) yet, but I plan to.
Looking forward to meeting all of you. Hallett sounds like fun, but I'm game for any idea.
ShelbyOK 01-16-2008, 10:30 AM Mine is pretty much stock as well. I did have Basani axel backs put on and I have a Carroll Shelby signed dash board.....other than this, it's stock. I have looked into putting on 3.37 gears, but with all of the talk of transmission issues on this forum, I'm going to wait a while.
fghtrpilot 01-22-2008, 03:51 PM The way I did it I can return it to stock in 30 minutes. Dealers don't care about the axle backs. My Service manager just said he did'nt want to know about anything else. If push came to shove Ford would have a pretty tough time saying that the car was'nt designed to handle their own racing intake and tune when that's what they are doing to the KR. As a former service manager I know we just looked to see if it looked like the car had been abused. If your taking it to the drags you better get all the melted rubber off the inside of the wheel wells. Read the posts under the tranny issue and you'll see one where one guy had a bunch of mods and svt did not turn down his repair. As for me I don't abuse the car because I plan on driving it forever and if I have any problems it's just 30 min for the old airbox and stock tune. (Besides, it really wakes the car up!)
fghtrpilot 01-22-2008, 03:56 PM Mine is pretty much stock as well. I did have Basani axel backs put on and I have a Carroll Shelby signed dash board.....other than this, it's stock. I have looked into putting on 3.37 gears, but with all of the talk of transmission issues on this forum, I'm going to wait a while.
3.37 gears, you have 3.31, did you mean 3.73? I'd do a cold air intake and tune before I touched the gearing, hell mine is pealing out into 3rd gear, I'd be afraid to go any higher.
ShelbyOK 01-22-2008, 04:13 PM Yes....my bad....I meant 3.73. The 3.73 would just be a swap out of the whole rear-end from a place here in Tulsa....brand new from the factory. I think with 500 horses, 3.30 was the wrong gear for SVT to use. It's almost like they figured their mistake out with the KR.
shlbysvt 01-22-2008, 06:41 PM As for me I don't abuse the car because I plan on driving it forever and if I have any problems it's just 30 min for the old airbox and stock tune. (Besides, it really wakes the car up!)
Hey fghtrpilot, where's your "Need For Speed"?
fghtrpilot 01-22-2008, 06:53 PM Believe me I have the need for speed but I don't know that with the car breaking lose through 80 mph that the 3.73 will buy you anything until you get past that point (unless you have slicks). Don't get me wrong it's a terrific ratio and with a 6 speed probably would'nt be too bad on mileage, I just think bang for the buck the cold air intake and tune is the best deal.:)
shlbysvt 01-22-2008, 07:02 PM Believe me I have the need for speed but I don't know that with the car breaking lose through 80 mph that the 3.73 will buy you anything until you get past that point (unless you have slicks). Don't get me wrong it's a terrific ratio and with a 6 speed probably would'nt be too bad on mileage, I just think bang for the buck the cold air intake and tune is the best deal.:)
I agree, but it is like potato chips, you just can't eat one, and stopping at just a CAI and tune is just a tease in my opinion.;)
fghtrpilot 01-22-2008, 07:15 PM I know it is tough but if you do the 3.73 (which I would just do the Ford ring and pinion versus swapping out the whole axle) you will have to do a tune and this will not be easy to reverse if you have warranty powertrain issues unlike the CAI and tune. Sometimes to have the perfect car it's like eating an elephant, (small bites one at time). I would'nt take this chomp yet.:D
shlbysvt 01-22-2008, 07:42 PM 3.73 is just the tip of the iceberg in the mod department. Warranty issues are related to the nature of the failure and the relationship with the owner and the dealership, and I say this from experience. These cars were made to be mod.;)
fghtrpilot 01-22-2008, 09:08 PM I agree but you have to have an agreement with the dealership and I don't have that. If you change the axle ratio to 37.3 your foooked.:)
ShelbyOK 01-23-2008, 08:16 AM I just think that the original designers of the GT500 screwed up on the selection of the 3.31 rear-end. It's like it just happened to be the one setting around the factory that they used in the regular GT's. Even the Z06 vette, which is way lighter that the GT, has something like a 3.40 or better. IMO, these cars aren't built to be a highway patrol intercepter....
fghtrpilot 01-23-2008, 02:10 PM If I was a Highway Patrol guy and they told me I had to drive one of these I'd go to work everyday with the biggest sh*t-eating grin and come home late every night!
ShelbyOK 01-23-2008, 02:17 PM Ain't that the truth!!!
fghtrpilot 01-28-2008, 06:08 PM Went out for a drive yesterday, seems all I want to do is wait for Friday to get here and then volenteer to go run errands for my wife. She sent me to May's yesterday (1/2 mile away) I was gone for 45 minutes taking the very long way home!:D

fghtrpilot 01-29-2008, 02:07 PM Prez, I'd feel sorry for you if you did'nt have all those beautiful mountains to drive that shelby around. I looked up Parker on wikipedia...looks like a nice place to live. Go skiing this weekend and I'll tear up the flatlands!

Yeah, Parker is a great town. It's growing a little too fast for my taste, and Colorado skiing is a mess...too many people. The problem with this state is I can only drive Shelby 4-5 months of the year. The other 7-8 months is this:

Spring is finally here, but they're talking a winter mix this Friday - I was planning on driving the Shelby to Tulsa that day. Oh well!!

I saw a '10 GT500 on Danforth the other day in Edmond - grabber blue color. Still having trouble getting used to the back end of the new ones.
cncgimenez 10-07-2009, 07:46 AM I haven't seen that one yet. Did it have the red stripes? I'm definately not a fan of that option as well as the redesigned rear-end. But I do love that blue though.

It did have the red stripes which I thought was a little weird with this color (personal opinion). I have the red stripe package with black, and I also like the white with the red stripes. Everybody has their own tastes and preferences.
I heard a rumor they are going to change the rear end on '11 model.
Brent (fightrpilot), I drove through Tulsa downtown around rush hour last PM - that's real interesting right now with the detours isn't it?

You are absolutely right, I'm sure there are a bunch of folks that can't stand Grabber Orange either but that's what makes these cars unique in their own way. The Black w/Red stripes is a nice option...looks real tough.

Thanks to both of you for the compliment. These cars are unique and certainly draws a lot of attention when you're out and about. Grabber Orange was very popular when it came out in '70 on the Boss 302. It's a cool color. I think they also used it on the "Twister Special" that same year
I want to express my appreciation to both of you for your service to the country.

Thanks Dwight,
I've enjoyed every minute of it (almost) but after 21 years and 7 mideast deployments for OPC, ONW, OSW, and OIF(not to mention the cold war spent in the A-7), I figured that uncle Sam got his $ worth out of me. 9G's has put a toll on my neck and back so it's surgery or retirement. I've decided the latter is the best way to go. War is a young man's game....time to fade away.

Thanks Dwight,
Good to know that there are folks like you who give a hoot about the military. After 17+ yrs of serving I too am nearing the end of my career. I just spent the last year in Baghdad and I have to say that if I ever see the Middle East again it will be way too soon. That was my 5th time over there and I'm sure it won't be the last. BUT, the GT500 was a welcome home present from my wife (also active duty Air Force)....so I guess it wasn't all bad....maybe when I go back next year I'll get another welcome home present! Well, maybe I'm pushing my luck.

2 tone 12-24-2009, 09:30 PM I'll be building a house next year on Grand Lake near Grove, OK. Mine is a 2010 GT500 Sterling Grey / silver stripes coupe. I'll be moving there in a few years from Huntington Beach, CA. I've had enough good weather and there's too many hot women here on the beach. I can't take it any more. LOL

Welcome! Are you from Oklahoma originally? The Grand Lake area is quite pretty.
How are you enjoying the car? That's a good looking color combination.

Good to hear from you. Do you make it up for MidAmerica in June?
2 tone 12-26-2009, 01:14 PM Yes, I was born in OKC and lived there just a few years before moving to Surf City. I'll be building in Governors Retreat 2 miles South of Grove. It is a great community with big lots, trees, gentle grassy slopes to waters edge, big cove where everybody hangs out in their boats. I bought 3 lots to build my house. Can't wait! I've had my GT500 about 1 month and it is awesome. Instead of cruising Hwy.1, I'll be cruising Rt. 66.

OKC08GT500 01-18-2010, 06:12 PM Norman OK Shelby here. 2008, black on black, Shaker 1000, Ambient Lighting, HID. The Dark Knight was on the prowl today looking for Camaros and Challengers to feast upon.
dsublett 01-18-2010, 06:25 PM Welcome Ropenrick and OKC08GT500! The weather cooperated today and I was able to drive mine to work. Just got FRPP performance package, suspension package, and short throw shifter and really like the new "feel" of the car. Hope you are able to drive your vehicles during this period of decent weather.

Where did you get your mods installed at? I am looking to get the same mods but have the dealership install the FRPP parts to keep my warranty.

Sounds like a plan. We need to round up a bunch of OKC Shelbys and head to Tulsa. Can you imagine a convoy of Shelbys on the Turner Turnpike?

Sorry I hadn't got back to you sooner. I had the mods on my car done at Joe Cooper Ford in Midwest City. They are really good guys. Ask for Greg Dobbins - he is just a super nice guy and very helpful. I was down there today to check on an oil leak they had fixed - still having some old oil smell burning off the exhaust manifold from a leaky oil galley plug, but no new leak.
I really like the mods - notice a little bump in acceleration which is good, but the big difference is handling. It's super! I also like the lowered stance (1.25 inch drop). Short throw shifter is also an improvement.
I'd encourage you to go for it.

Did you also install a UCA and panhard bar?

No, just added the items in the FRPP suspension pack (adjustable damper kit, anti-roll bar kit, lowering springs, and strut brace). Does it help to add these other items? I beg ignorance.

From the research I have done on this and other websites I have learned that if you modify the suspension you need an upper control arm and panhard bar.

I just went with the suspension package that FRPP has put together. Did not see any mention of any additional modifications needed nor did the dealership say anything. The car certainly drives well. I'll try to check further on this. Anybody else have any info regarding this ?

If enough people are serious about forming a Shelby Club or a Snake Club(Shelbys and Terminators) I would suggest the OKC Shelbys meeting the Tulsa Shelby's in Tulsa; cruise up to Woolaroc near Bartlesville then cruise back to Tulsa and have lunch or dinner at Friday's. Just my $.02.

JMSRX 09-02-2010, 03:24 PM I'm fairly new to the site and the GT500. There hasn't been alot of action in this subforum for awhile now. Just seeing how many fellow owners are in the OKC metro or surrounding areas.
Also looking for a quality performance shop specializing in Ford products. I know that there used to be a shop with a dyno between 63rd and Wilshire close to the Broadway Extension service road in OKC. I'm not sure if it's still there.

I am in the Norman area and have seen three GT500's around here. Apparently there aren't too many OKC area owners on this board or over at SVTPerformance.com. I am interested in starting a Shelby GT500 club if enough owners are interested and can be notified or found.
From everything I have heard, the best performance shop is HPP in Dallas.

I would be interested in the club or at least some get togethers if we can arrange them. I have weekends off and would be able to attend functions especially if the whole family could take part. Nice to hear from you.

You do know that you cannot drive on the stock tires when the temperature is below 40 degrees.

You can as long as you don't mind the tread coming off in large chunks because the rubber has turned as hard as a rock. :)

Shelby10' 11-08-2010, 09:43 PM New to the forum. Just picked up a 2010 Grabber Blue W/ white stripes GT500 coupe. I live in Tulsa. There is a club in Tulsa that has quite a few GT500s... Bold Moves Mustang Club of Tulsa. http://www.boldmovestulsa.com
They have club events, toy drives, cruises, tech days (help with modding each others cars), etc etc There is a cruise on the 20th of this month...and the Toy drive for the kids is coming up soon as well.

Thanks for the info. I joined the Mustang Club in OKC and there is only one other GT500 in the club. At the first meeting I went to, I overheard someone say that a GT500 is not a "real" Mustang. I never went back.

OKC08GT500 11-10-2010, 12:20 PM Where does the cruise on the 20th start and where are they going?
From the website:
Basicly we will meet up at Bob Hurley Ford at I-44 and the Arkansas river here in Tulsa then head north on highway 75 toward Bartlesville. We will take a new route this year the back way via Skiatook Oklahoma to highway 123 and on to Woolaroc. Woolaroc is where Frank Phillips of Phillips petroleum had a ranch. It is now a really nice wild animal sanctuary where you drive in from the main gate about three miles to the museum. While you drive you will see elk deer bison emu long horn steer all sorts of things. The museum houses many native American artifacts, shrunken heads, stuffed animals from safari trips, art work and the plane Woolaroc as well as an impressive firearms collection. It's a great museum. We will also stop for lunch somewhere. Should be a really fun trip. Hope to see you guys there.
