Alright =D
Last Tuesday I got my oil changed by the dealership. No problems so far. Left the dealership, drove it like I stole it, parked it in the garage.
Wednesday drive it, as always, like I stole it when I got off work. Parked it in the garage.
Thursday move it out of the garage (manual garage), go to shut the door and there is a fresh oil oval puddle ~3"X6". pretty decent size??? i thought it was.
Soooooo... had plans thursday, and friday so couldn't get it back into the dealership until today. They look at everything, "no problems".
soooo.
because the dealership had no explanation... my thoughts were..... they may not have cleaned it up well enough after the change... BUT... i drove it for 2 days before the leak showed up...
any ideas? similar happenings?

Jameson if they did not put a funnel type device over the frame where the filter unscrews it is very likely the oil drained into the frame (where there are plenty of holes) and eventually leaked out onto your garage floor. I know when I did my first oil change I posted this as being a possible floor in the design for future oil changes. My Ford F150 has a plastic channel to incorporate such a problem and I was astonished to see that such a device was not thought of for the GT500. Another case of pure negligence or non concern by your local dealership mechanic. Now you know why I have taken on second gear by myself! They just do not give a s@#t.

Here it is fees. Post #429 dated 10/04/06 under thread "What is the latest info on your Shelby". Read it and let Ford know of another oversight, like where the h#%*l is my clutch and second gear. Sorry Prez but I must vent.:D :D You did not have to be rocket scientist to see this one coming. Oil puddles that is.:(

I for one like to do all my work myself just for this reason. I guess I'm just a very picky person and don't have alot of trust in very many people with my posessions.

My dealer offered me a 1st free oil change. I do not intend to take them up on the offer. I've seen enough poor workmanship and negligence on procedures as simple as an oil change to know I can do it much better myself. I believe the mechanic just let the oil flow out of the filter onto the chassis without bothering to clean it up completely. I heard where others have put a plastic bag over the filter while removing it letting the oil flow into the bag. I will try this on my first oil change since I heard it can create quite a mess.
As a precaution check your oil level to make sure it is filled to the proper level. I've had several instances where a dealer over-filled my oil on one of my other vehicles.

I put a bunch of red shop towels over the suspension and it kept the oil off of it. the oil just ran down the shop towel into the oil pan. no mess at all!

I will use the plastic bag idea next time, as I made a small mess this weekend removing the oil filter on mine.

6 speed your a smart man to stay away from free. I took my car in for that so called free change and got the wrong oil put in. Don't assume they know what they are doing . Ask before you get the work done.

Wow! that sucks. How did you figure out that they used the wrong oil? Was it the wrong weight or was it not the synthetic variety?
It does not surprise me though - dealers don't really know much about the GT500. Instead they may treat them just like a regular Mustang out of habit due to seeing high volumes come through their shop.

When I took mine in for an oil change, I called a week ahead of time and had the parts department order the oil. They don't keep it in stock. I even had to tell him what to order. My car was the first GT500 they changed the oil in.
I also stood right there with the Tech while he changed it. He did a good job of making sure he didn't spill any oil and even took solvent sprayed and wiped everything down.
It was funny because I could see the Techs trying to position themselves to get to do it.:)

yepper! same thing with me everytime so far (3 down!)
i guess the last time i just wasn't paying attention when they emptied it and some dripped into the frame. they wiped mine down with the solvent as well, yet the oil trapped in the frame ended up leaking out over time.
good stuff =D

Hi-
I am getting the oil changed Today or next weekend (SAT). I've been in touch by phone with the dealership several time to ensure they have the correct OIL. I know Mine is the 2nd of only 2 GT500s they've sold - the first is a garage Queen for sure! Anyway, I plan to "be there" for the WHOLE process. I did pay for 6 "free" oil changes, though I doubt that they knew it would cost so much per change!!!!!!! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH Makes up for a LOT of Dealer Profits... HEHEHEHEHEHEH! Yeah, I like the HE keys!!! HEHEHEHEHEHEH!
